Road safety is a major concern in Bangladesh, with 1.24 million annual deaths and 20-50 million non-fatal injuries resulting in 1-2% of GDP in annual losses. Most accidents occur in congested areas and intersections in major districts like Dhaka and Chittagong on highways like Dhaka-Mymensingh. A multi-disciplinary research team assessed the problem's magnitude by analyzing statistics, reviewing international experiences, and surveying drivers to identify causal factors and priority actions to save millions of lives through road safety measures.
