Balion Reggae School of Performing Arts, culture and technology
1. Balion Music School of Reggae & The Performing
Arts
is an effort to create a music school experimental experience that uplifts Jamaican artists,
culture, heritage and anything else that is positively creative and positive about Jamaica and
it’s people. We will be focusing on various areas of the artists/artistes’ needs for growth and
development by providing free training in the areas of song writing, artistic expression, skills
development i.e.(sound engineering, stage performance training, music writing and reading,
stress management, music video, film, digital photography and more) as well as music
business transactions and cultural documentation and preservation (arts ,crafts artisans
,contracts, legalities on royalties, intellectual property, talent promotion and development,
2. merchandise etc).
The school is undoubtedly needed, as the impact of our musical and artistic culture is
universally tremendous yet there are still so many of us with the potential who are not
reaping the benefits of our talents in the Reggae music industry globally. We know that it is
not due to one factor alone as research goes to show that on each side on the fence there are
weaknesses and strengths. A lot of artistes did not make it in the music business due to
destiny, as some would say, but also due to lack of proper development of their talents and
career attributes.
Balion Music School of Reggae and Performing Arts aims to erase the
bad reputation of Kingston and Jamaica by holding regular events, which would in turn
encourage the growth of tourism in the capital and across the island. Jamaica is renowned
for its Reggae music, so we need your support to help ignite the passion of our people in
which will bring us together in unity.
The Project will be funded in part by a series of festivals entitled - REGGAE LOVE ALIVE. This
music festival will be held quarterly every year, continuing from the first one slated until we
achieve our goals and reach the completion of our mission. A Trust Fund account will be
created and managed by a team of individuals delegated by The Project to manage the
actions and activities of the school. It is our responsibility to do as much we can for each other
as a nation and so we call upon you, as we are seeking your support to this visionary move to
up-bring our brothers and sisters in the right musical way.
Activies of the project in full are teaching, creating, documenting, producing music and
cultural preservation , film and video production, merchandise production, entrepreneurial
activities and heritage tourism.
On a mission to explore the possibilities of collaborating with other countries on cultural
matters concerning the development and promotion of Jamaican arts and culture using the
latest technology to experiment the feasibility of lucrative prospects through hosting live
events online and workshops in an inner city community exchange program style.
weekly events will be hosted in Kingston in the city center featuring upcoming and privileged
arts in actions supporting the socialization of youths and the participation of the special
involvement of local and international agencies and bodies interested in the rehabilitation of
the many ills affecting our societies presently, especially issues related to cultural and social
erosion. The use of the latest available technology will be accessed implemented to connect to
other sources locally, regionally and globally to interact in motions similar to achieve
envisioned appreciations, as a project working live in action; making it an universal
movement in operation.
BussOut Jamaica
is an active art process that involves professional artists and community members in a
collaborative creative process resulting in collective experiences and public expression. It
provides a way for communities to express themselves; enables artists, through financial or
other supports, to engage in creative activity with communities; and is collaborative – the
3. creative process is equally important as the artistic outcome.” (Note that this is different from
such things as local, neighborhood knitting groups.) as a community arts programs often
involve people who are disadvantaged in some way (at-risk youth, ethnic minorities, people
in a poor neighborhood) and are designed in the context of some larger goal, such as
neighborhood improvement (typically aesthetic) or learning and teaching about diverse
cultures (multiculturalism). These goals are usually the basis for claims about the politically
transformative potential of community arts projects
Regardless of the ultimate purpose(s) to which social capital is to be put, community arts
programs are known to build social capital by boosting individuals’ ability and motivation to
be civically engaged, as well as building organizational capacity for effective action.
This is specifically accomplished by:
• Creating a venue that draws people together who would otherwise not be engaged in
constructive social activity.
• Fostering trust between participants and thereby increasing their generalized trust of
others
• Providing an experience of collective efficacy and civic engagement, which spurs
participants to further collective action
• Arts events may be a source of pride for residents (participants and non-participants alike)
in their community, increasing their sense of connection to that community.
• Providing an experience for participants to learn technical and interpersonal skills
important for collective organizing
• Increasing the scope of individuals’ social networks
• Providing an experience for the organizations involved to enhance their capacities. Much of
this comes when organizations’ establish ties and learn how to work, consult and coordinate
with other organizations and government bodies in order to accomplish their goals
