Using RankTank for social media
1. RankTank.eu
You can use RankTank specifically for social media platforms.
When you set up a new Batch on the RankTank dashboard, just
Enter the name of the social network you’re scoring on instead
of the search engine name, e.g. the below is for scoring British
soccer teams visibility in the Top 20 Tweets for their “brand”
names on Twitter:

Ranking your performance in social media works a little
differently from on the traditional Web because social search
results are compiled differently from Web search results.
• Web search indexes are based on links and relationships
between pages. When you query Bing, Yahoo, Google or any
search engine, you're querying an engine's entire Web-wide
index, and it retrieves web pages that have been indexed
according to its own criteria.
• Social search indexes are based on tags and social connections
between people. When you query Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or
Wordpress, you’re querying Facebook or Twitter or YouTube or
Wordpress -- not the Web or other social networks -- and they
each retrieve profiles and postings indexed according to their
own users’ collective selections (tag, link, Like, Follow, Share,
Tweets).

3. RankTank.eu
You can use RankTank to score your brand's performance on
any social network with a search function. The same
classifications apply to who claims profiles: Enterprise/brand
= e; Consumer (individual) = c; Media = m; Other = o.
You're looking for official brand profiles or authorized employee
profiles (these = e). The personal profiles of people who
happen to work for you right now but could leave, or of
people who happen to Like or Follow your company, all = c.
The Media (m) and Other (o) classifications are as described.

Social search results:
• are heavily personalized (social networks want to show you what
people you know like, and other things you might like); their results
are largely based on what they know about you, your interests, friends,
browsing habits, purchase history...
• vary depending on whether you're logged in or not
• depend on the sophistication (or lack of) of the search tools. Some
offer advanced options, others none at all; some are pre-set for, e.g.
location (based on your IP), others allow you to select location
• are presented differently from Web search results. Often, there's no
rank order at all, just a list of pages or profiles or a gallery of images
or video in no particular order
• show up in Web search results but, with few exceptions, do not include
Web pages in their own social search results

If a social network doesn't have a search function, go to a
search engine, type in e.g. Facebook + brand name or Twitter
+ query and classify the Top 20 results returned.
[Bing is recommended for social search as it has the contract
to index Facebook's and Twitter's public content and also
powers Yahoo search.]
