EMPOWERING THE ART OF LIFE
02
"The highest education is that which does not merely give us
information but makes our life in harmony with all existence."
- Rabindranath Tagore
“Life skills training should start in school during the formative
years. While it’s encouraging that some progressive schools
have begun to introduce life skills training, all of them need to
become aware of the vital linkage between job productivity
and life skills education.”
Puneet Jetli,
General Manager,
Mindtree
“Worldwide, hundreds of millions of children reach young
adulthood without even the most basic skills like calculating
the correct change from a transaction, reading a doctor’s
instructions, or understanding a bus schedule—let alone
building a fulfilling career or educating their children."
World Bank

Most schools analyse
their students on
How are children doing
in school?
Are they buckling up
and finishing their homework?
However,
very few pause and focus on
What are children learning in
school that is preparing them
for life?

Current Scenario
Pandemic has taught us many lessons,
especially important of life skills, that is
needed for survival
● In this era short program is leading to more income
than college degree.
● Only spending 176 hours focusing on foundational
skills won’t help, where our life skills knowledge
is limited.
● WHO says “Life skills as abilities for positive and
adaptive behaviour that enable individuals to deal
effectively with the demands and changes of
everyday life.”
06
IS EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS ENOUGH TO PREPARE
OUR CHILDREN FOR THE REAL-WORLD?
07
The real world SURVEY
Conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Experian Boost™,
the survey found 81% of respondents agreed they wish
they were taught more life skills before graduating
college.

Prepare children for Life
& not standardized tests
Life Skills such as problem-solving, decision-making,
good manners, communication, and interpersonal
skills, are most sought after the job marketplace of
India’s rapidly globalizing economy
According to experts, in a world that is
witnessing 24*7 innovation, every structured
job in the economy if it hasn’t disappeared
already will disappear so kids coming through
education simply trained to follow groups will
be marginalized or chronically unemployed.
09
Hence, The big question is?
How can we design our education system that
inspires, empowers, and gives sense of purpose
to children instead of chasing percentages and
placements?
Children well being in conversation

● The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)’s World Drug Report 2022 estimates that around 284 million people use drugs worldwide. The
report also claims India is one of the world’s single-largest opiate markets. In India, youth is among the most impacted by the menace. More than 60% of
all illicit drugs seized in India are from Punjab. According to a study, most addicts are between the age group of 15 and 35 and many are unemployed.
● According to new reports, after the pandemic children are at increased risk of developing obesity because lack good health and fitness habits, and lead
a poor lifestyle. The Sportz Village Schools survey found that over 51% of children have a BMI that is too low, indicating that they are suffering from poor
eating and exercise habits. More than 1 billion people worldwide are obese – 650 million adults, 340 million adolescents and 39 million children. This
number is still increasing. WHO estimates that by 2025, approximately 167 million people – adults and children – will become less healthy because they are
overweight or obese.
● Child sexual abuse is one of the most prevalent types of violence against children, in which 1 in 13 boys and 1 in 4 girls are victims.
● According to a study, 40.6% of young people say that their sleep has been significantly affected by social media. 7 out of 10 teens who use social media for
more than five hours daily have a significantly increased risk of committing suicide.
● Teens aged 13 to 18 spend three hours a day on social media.43% of young people feel very bad if no one likes their social media posts. Nowadays, even
kids as young as 10 have smartphones and social media access. If this is not regulated, it can lead to many problems – cyber crime, mental health issues,
bodily insecurities, etc.
● In 2021, UNICEF expressed concern over the mental health of children in India, especially after the harsh effects of the pandemic. This mental health crisis
needs to be addressed, and appropriate care or support will be given.
● In 2016-19, there were 6 million children aged 3-17 years who had an ADHD, anxiety problems, behavior problems, or depression diagnosis. It is estimated
that 9.8% of them (approximately 6 million) received an ADHD diagnosis, 9.4% (approximately 5.8 million) received an anxiety diagnosis, 8.9%
(approximately 5.5 million) received a behavior problems diagnosis, and 4.4% (approximately 2.7 million) received a depression diagnosis.
● According to cyberbullying research, 21% of children between the ages of 10 and 18 are being cyberbullied.

Why do we need to learn
Life Skills?
“Life Skills Education for Youth in Developing Countries:
What Are They and Why Do They Matter?”
- Erin Murphy-Graham & Alison K. Cohen
They are
important for
preventing drug
and alcohol use,
as well as
preventing
sexually
transmitted
diseases
(particularly
HIV), early
pregnancy,
and other risky
behaviors.
Just getting
youth into
school as an
insufficient step
in transforming
lives and
communities.
Rather, they focus
on broadening
what is taught
in school to
ensure education
can be useful for
life broadly.
They are
instrumental to
‘promoting
lifetime success’
particularly in
the labor
market.
