2. Urban โrural areas
The National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO)
defines โruralโ as follows:
โข An area with a population density below 400 per
square kilometer,
โข Villages with clear surveyed boundaries but no
municipal board,
โข Population below 5000
โข A minimum of 75% of male working population
involved in agriculture and allied activities
3. Urban area
Census of India 2011, the definition of urban area is as
follows:
โข All places with a municipality, corporation, cantonment
board or notified town area committee, etc.
โข All other places which satisfied the following criteria:
โข A population more than 5,000;
โข At least 75% of the male main working population
engaged in non-agricultural pursuits; and
โข A density of population of more than 400 persons per
square kilometre (1,000/sq mi)
