13. What does Scheduled Area mean?
• According to Constitution Scheduled Areas means
such areas as the President may by order declare to be
Scheduled Areas.
• Because these are the areas inhabited by people who
are socially and economically backward special effort
need to be made to improve their conditions
• Whole of normal administrative machinery operating
in the state is not extended to these areas
• central govt has some greater responsibility
• Provision of administration mentioned in Schedule 5
14. What does Tribal Area mean?
• According to constitution:"Tribal areas
generally mean areas having preponderance
of tribal population.
• However, the Constitution of India refers tribal
areas within the States of Assam, Meghalaya,
Tripura & Mizoram, as those areas specified in
Parts I, II, IIA & III of the table appended to
paragraph 20 of the Sixth Schedule."
15. Why they are treated differently?
• The tribes in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and
Mizoram have not assimilated much the life
and ways of the other people in these state.
Tribal people in other part of India have more
or less adopted the culture of majority of
people in whose midst they live These tribes
still have roots in their own culture, custom n
civilization
16. How they are administered?
• A sizeable amount of autonomy has been
given to them for self government
