Riset/Penelitian berasal dari Bahasa Inggris “Research”. Research gabungan dari kata Re yang berarti
Kembali dan to seach berarti Mencari (Mencari Kembali Pengetahuan)
Menurut John (1949) Riset adalah suatu pencarian fakta menggunakan metode
objektif untuk menemukan koordinasi fakta dan menghasilkan
hukum tertentu
Menurut dewey (1936), Riset adalah Perubahan yang terkendali dari situasi dalam
kenyataan-kenyataan yang ada padanya dan koneksinya.
Menurut J.Supranto (1997:9) Riset adalah suatu aktivitas untuk memilih judul, merumuskan
persoalan kemudian disertai dengan pengumpulan, pengolahan,
penyajian dan analisis data yang dilakukan dengan metode
ilmiah secara efisien dan sistematis

4. Fungsi Riset
Fungsi riset yaitu ada fungsi sains [teori hasil penelitian] dalam riset adalah:
1. Sebagai kacamata dalam melihat suatu fakta menjadi sebuah fenomena
[pada latar belakang masalah]
2. Sebagai alat standar ukuran guna menemukan masalah atau penyimpangan
3. Untuk memandu mensistemasikan rumusan masalah pembatasan masalah
4. Untuk membuat proposisi pada Kerangka Pemikiran dan atau Hipotesa
5. Untuk membingkai fakta menjadi sebuah data
6. Untuk menganilisis banding [kritis] antara temuan data dengan temuan
sebelumnya.

1) Library Research (perpustakaan);
penelitian yang dilakukan dengan

9. Segi Tujuan Umum
1) Exploratif (penemuan awal);
Penelitian eksploratif dilakukan untuk mencari ide-ide baru atau hubungan antara fenomena terkait.
2) Verifikatif (menguji kehandalan teori);
Menurut Moch. Nazir (2011:91), “Metode verifikatif adalah metode penelitian yang bertujuan untuk
memahami hubungan antara kualitas suatu variabel dan suatu hipotesis tertentu dengan
menggunakan jenis analisis statistik tertentu sehingga dapat diperoleh hasil yang menunjukkan
apakah hipotesis itu salah atau benar.”
3) Depelovmental (pengembangan teori);
Penelitian yang dimaksudkan untuk menyempurnakan suatu produk, rancangan, atau penelitian
sebelumnya. Tujuan penelitian ini bukan untuk menantang teori-teori yang ada, melainkan untuk
menegakkan dan memajukan teori-teori yang sudah ada.

1) Penelitian Kuantitatif (Paradigma positivisme)
merupakan aliran filsafat yang dinisbahkan/bersumber dari pemikiran Auguste Comte
seorang folosof yang lahir di Montpellier Perancis pada tahun 1798, ia seorang
yang sangat miskin, hidupnya banyak mengandalkan sumbangan dari murid dan teman-
temannya antara lain dari folosof inggris John Stuart Mill (juga seorang akhli ekonomi), ia
meninggal pada tahun 1857. Meskipun demikian pemikiran-pemikirannya cukup
berpengaruh yang dituangkan dalam tulisan-tulisannya antara lain Cours de
Philosophie Positive (Kursus filsafat positif) dan Systeme de Politique Positive (Sistem
politik positif).
