Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well

International collaboration of
research infrastructures?
👍

With who?
How?
Do I need to change?
How long?
Yes for collaboration, but…

RISCAPE – what we do?
• 3 year project (end Dec 2019)
H2020
• Find out (major) international
RIs, interview them and make a
landscape analysis
• Analysing size, services offered,
access, longevity, impact, plans
• From European perspective –
expertise based on existing
ESFRI RI clusters
– However, the landscape will be as
general we can do it
Engaging the European
RIs via cluster projects
“who does similar things
than you do internationally?”
Interviewing these
organisations
“What do you do? How do
you do it? Who are you?”

Challenges (this far)
Basing on the knowledge of only ESFRI RIs on targets?
- Potential for gaps in the landscape for “unknown unknowns”
- Low number in Latin America, SE Asia, Africa (true or artefact?)
in some fields
- However, existing knowledge can make collaboration easier
Who do we select in our analysis?
- Defining an “Research infrastructure”
- “Similar is better” for future collaboration
- Longevity, science orientation, impact, service
provision
Language and contacts
- Terminology differs
- Everyone has their own kind of
(byzantine) organisation
- When no one answers to our call..
