1. To Whom It May Concern:
Proud…Character…Humble…Honest…Respected… These are just a few words on how
I’d describe my friend and former teammate, Ray Austin. With that said, I am pleased to
write a letter of recommendation on his behalf for all pursuits that he chooses to embark
upon. I had the pleasure of playing football with Ray at The University of La Verne and
consider him one of the most stand-up, loyal people I know.
As a captain on our team and the unquestionable leader, Ray was/is a master of
motivation and has an unequivocal understanding of the right things to say no matter
what the situation. He took younger players under his wing in order to mentor and mold
them so that our institutions tradition remained intact, he guided and helped incoming
freshmen to adjust to the collegiate lifestyle and to this day he remains involved with
inner city kids who may be adversely affected by the social and ecological consequences
of austerity urbanism. For me, that was and is huge! But this is simply a small reflection
of who Ray Austin is. He is well organized, meticulous in his work, works diligently at
instilling self-confidence in those he mentors and is a taskmaster who can get individuals
to strive for excellence in whatever they wish to accomplish. Even those with limited
backgrounds, will have the opportunity to succeed at what they are expected to do.
I was pretty scared coming into our first camp when I was a freshman, and here was this
big, bad middle linebacker talking to me, helping me and most importantly, welcoming
me. What’s impressed me most about him is since our playing days have ended, Ray still
IS that unquestionable leader. Whether it was being very active in keeping his son on the
right path and landing him a football scholarship at the University of Southern California,
or helping get our Football Booster Club started. Ray is always there mentoring, leading
while offering support and insight.
I have no doubt, Ray will not only meet expectations, but far exceed them. You will not
be disappointed in hiring him and I highly recommend him with no reservations.
