Electrical routing using NX
Wiring & Harness

Routing elements
• Components (like clamp, connectors etc.)
• Path
• Port
First of all what is wire harness: It is a group of wires and cables that are bundled together
and routed in various configurations. You mainly find it in medical industry(Instruments
and equipment's) and automotive industry (component packaging and Integration)
• Path consists of segments
and RCP
• RCP stands for routing
controlled points
Types of
ports
1. Fixture port: Point where
routing passes through
(Always created on
clamps and clips)
2. Multi port: Different
connections inside the
connector
3. Fitting port : Where
actually routing starts,
starting point
Basic Electrical routing procedure
• Step 1: Qualify the standard components
• Step 2 : Create the file for the electrical routing assembly
• Step 3 : Properly place and position the electrical components
• Step 4 : Create the necessary paths between the electrical
components
• Step 5 : Edit path if required
• Step 6 : Apply stock (Just giving some thickness to segment)
• Qualifying part : Adding some specific
intelligent to part.
All connectors and fittings should be
qualified
• Usually we see paths are available outside
the connector, but Build in paths available
inside the connector
• To some extend spline goes straight in
direction of connector and then takes turn
is called as extension length. This same we
observed in actual wire harness too
• If we have multi ports and all of them
going to join at single point or this cut
back length is given
Path types in
routing
• Linear path
• Spline path
• Defining path using points
• Locked path- with
alternation of points length
of spline remain same
• Slack mode: Needed when
cable/wire get stretch in
certain situation.
• Stocks with some predefined
shapes such circular,
rectangular
Mechanical routing using NX
Piping & Tubing

Good piping should not involves lots of bends and turns, Also it should not be too long since
frictional loss increases in such cases, At turns generally elbows are preferred which also
fasciallate the easy maintenance
• Exactly similar to wire harnessing module
• Heal Path: Use to find collision detection in routing; Also it
finds it’s own path through any room. It looks for beat
possible path with consideration of minimal length and
hole presents near by
• If OEM model the housing on themselves, then as
discussed earlier firstly component requires Qualification
wali step. But chances of these is less than 1%
