2. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
• A STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF
A PLANNED TEACHING PROGRAMME IN
TERMS OF KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES
REGARDING SEELCTED ASPECTS OF INFANT
CARE AMONG ASHA,s in SELECTED PHCs IN
NEW DELHI.
BY VANDANA DAGAR 2016(R.A.K.C.O.N) NO. 737
3. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
• Develop a planned teaching program on selected aspects of infant care for
ASHAs.
• Assess the knowledge regarding selected aspects of infant care among
ASHAs before and after the administration of planned teaching
programme.
• Assess the practices regarding selected aspects of infant care among
ASHAs before and after the administration of Planned teaching
programme.
• Determine relationship between knowledge and practice of regarding
selected aspect of infant care among ASHAs after the administration of
Planned teaching program.
• Determine association between post test knowledge score of ASHAs
regarding selected aspect of infant care and the selected socio -
demographical variables: age, years of experiences, educational
qualification.
• Determine association between posttest practice scores of ASHAs
regarding selected aspects of infant care and selected socio demographic
variables: year of experience, education qualification.
4. OPERATIONAL DEFINITION
1. Evaluate: Its refers to the statistical estimation of outcome of
teaching program.
2. Effectiveness : It refers to the outcome of planned teaching program
in terms of improvement in knowledge and practices of ASHAs
regarding the selected the selected aspects of infant care.
3. Planned teaching program : It refers to systematically developed
teaching program which provides adequate information on selected
aspects of infant care to ASHAs.
4. Knowledge : Its refers to the response behind from ASHAs to the
knowledge questions as measured by structures questionnaire
regarding selected aspect of infant care including the area :
neonates sepsis , breast feeding , complementary feeding ,
Kangaroo mother care , Immunization and management of
diarrhea.
5. 5. Practices : The action of doing something . It is the data obtained from the
ASHAs about their practice of infant care including breast feeding ,
complimentary feeding , kangaroo mother care , immunization and
management of diarrhea.
6. ASHA's : ASHA,s are female volunteer recruited as a link worker between
community and health delivery systems under the NRHM to educate rural
women , particularly pregnant women about health care, promoting universal
immunization , hand washing and preparation of ORS.

of infant care are: neonatal sepsis , Kangaroo mother care, Breast feeding,
weaning , Immunization and management of diarrhea.
9. PHC : PHC is the basic structural and functional unit of the public services
in developing countries
6. Coefficient of correlation between the post test knowledge
score and practice score of ASHAs on selected aspects of infant
care.
TABLE 11
TEST SCORE MEAN ‘ r’ value
Post test
knowledge score 33.14
0.317
Post test practice
score 57.32
N = 50
df (48) = 0.288 ( r) * Significant at 0.05 level of significance
7. • Data presented in Table 11 indicate that their
exits a positive significant correlation between
posttest score knowledge score with the mean of
33.14 and posttest practice score with a mean of
57.32 with Pearson product of correlation 'r'
0.317 regarding selected aspects of the infant
care which is significant at 0.05 level of
significance. Therefore, Research hypothesis H3
was accepted and Null hypothesis H03 was
rejected. This indicates that as the knowledge
among ASHAs regarding selected aspects of
infant care improves their practices also improve.
