Polymers consist of large molecules made of repeating structural units bonded together. They include both thermo-plastics like nylon and polyethylene which are bonded through weak van der Waals forces, and thermo-sets like epoxy which form covalent bond networks. Polymers are typically made of non-metallic elements like carbon and hydrogen. They are generally amorphous solids that are electrical and thermal insulators but can be made conductive through doping or fillers, and decompose at moderate temperatures while being lightweight with varying other properties.
