I am thirsty
1.
2.
After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had
already been accomplished, to fulfill the
Scripture, *said, "I am thirsty." A jar full of
sour wine was standing there; so they put a
sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of
hyssop and brought it up to His mouth.
(John 19:28-29 NASB)
3.
For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,
And like a root out of parched ground; He has no
stately form or majesty That we should look upon
Him, Nor appearance that we should be attracted
to Him. He was despised and forsaken of men, A
man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And
like one from whom men hide their face He was
despised, and we did not esteem Him.
(Isa 53:2-3 NASB)
On the cross, men turn
away their faces
4.
who, although He existed in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God a thing to be
grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form
of a bond-servant, and being made in the
likeness of men. Being found in appearance as
a man, He humbled Himself by becoming
obedient to the point of death, even death on a
cross.
(Php 2:6-8 NASB)
Jesus emptied himself
for us
5.
The one who is thirsting
came to quench our thirst.
6.
1. He call us to Himself
2. He transforms us
3. He forgives us our sins
4. He loves us
How does God quench our
thirsting?
7.
Now on the last day, the great day of the
feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying,
"If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me
and drink. "He who believes in Me, as
the Scripture said, 'From his innermost
being will flow rivers of living water.'"
(Joh 7:37-38 NASB)
Come to me and drink
8.
God calls out to humanity
We are called, but must respond to the call
Even when something is free, you often are
required to “go and get it” or “receive it”
Am I listening with an intention of obeying?
1. He calls us to Himself.
9.
Jesus answered and said to her,
"Everyone who drinks of this water will
thirst again; but whoever drinks of the
water that I will give him shall never
thirst; but the water that I will give him
will become in him a well of water
springing up to eternal life."
(Joh 4:13-14 NASB)
Springing up to eternal life
10.
God gives us life
This life is not “what we believe”, it is more than our
faith
The Holy Spirit indwelling in us changes us
The water He gives us transforms us.
We have a source of eternal life in us
We Don’t just need to drink (get more from the outside)
We have living water within
Am I seeking to live by means of He who lives in me?
2. He transforms us.
11.
And when He had taken a cup and
given thanks, He gave it to them,
saying, "Drink from it, all of you; for
this is My blood of the covenant,
which is poured out for many for
forgiveness of sins.
(Mat 26:27-28 NASB)
Forgiveness of Sin
12.
He gives us a new relationship with God – a
covenant
He forgives our sins
Renewing our minds
Creating in us clean hearts
Washing out conscience
Giving us peace with God
Am I living a forgiven life?
3. He forgives our sin
13.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not
perish, but have eternal life.
(John 3:16 NASB)
Loved
14.
His love is giving
Not just truthful but full of hope and help
His love rescues those who are perishing
It is life, water, refreshing to all who are thirsty
Am I living in the love of God?
4. God loves us
15.
What thirst do I have because of my separation
from God?
What area of my transformation is God working
on? What is God doing with my life?
Do I consider my sins which are forgiven so that
I can be faithful in forgiving the sins of others?
Do I consider the cost God paid to love me?
