1. Living Waters
All NKJV unless otherwise specified
Water *
Life giving provision of God that you need to live (John 7v38) John 7 v37-39 37
On the last day, that great day of the
feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38
“He who believes in Me,
as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39
But this He spoke concerning the Spirit,
whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet
glorified.
Knowledge of the Glory of Yahweh Habakkuk 2v14 14
For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory
of the LORD, As the waters cover the sea.
Peace of the Lord

The Holy Spirit
It also represents the Spirit of Life (Ruach)
Salvation of the Lord (John 4v14; Revelation 21v6 6
And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. Revelation 22v17
17
And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come.
Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

John 4 v7-14
7
A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8
For His disciples had gone away into the
city to buy food. 9
Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a
Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. 10
Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of
God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living
water.” 11
The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that
living water? 12
“Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons
and his livestock?” 13
Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14
“but whoever drinks of
the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water
springing up into everlasting life.”
In the natural, and according to science, all life requires water in order to live. Approximately 70% of our bodies are made up
of water, and the human body cannot go without drinking water for more than about 3 days. It is the same in the spirit. We
need the living water referred to above by Jesus in order to live spiritually.
Jeremiah 17 v5-8; 13-14
5
Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the
LORD. 6
For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in
the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited. 7
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the
LORD. 8
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat
comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
13
O LORD, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You shall be ashamed. “Those who depart from Me Shall be written in the
earth, Because they have forsaken the LORD, The fountain of living waters.” 14
Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; Save
me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise.
A plant’s roots dig deep to find water
A plant knows that its source of life depends on the ability for it to remain connected to the source of its life, water.
The deeper the roots, the more stable the tree, the more likely it is that the tree will be able to withstand eternal factors
such as storms, heat, drought, fires, lightning etc.
The deeply rooted tree bears continues to bear fruit.
2. We are to be like this example, digging our roots deeply into the source of our spiritual life – Jesus Christ.
The above scriptures state that this happens when we trust in the Lord (faith) and hope in the Lord (wait patiently
knowing that He is in control).
However those who live after the flesh, who live life as if there is no God, who ignore God, to these there will not be
any living water, and the spiritual life is quenched (death), as can be seen Psalm 1 below.
Psalm 1
1
Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the
scornful; 2
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3
He shall be like a tree Planted
by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall
prosper. 4
The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in
the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of
the ungodly shall perish.
Matthew 3v10
10
“And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and
thrown into the fire.
Isaiah 55 v1-7 CEV
If you are thirsty, come and drink water! If you don’t have any money, come, eat what you want! Drink wine and milk without
paying a cent. 2
Why waste your money on what really isn’t food? Why work hard for something that doesn’t satisfy? Listen
carefully to me, and you will enjoy the very best foods. 3
Pay close attention! Come to me and live. I will promise you the
eternal love and loyalty that I promised David. 4
I made him the leader and ruler of the nations; he was my witness to them.
5
You will call out to nations you have never known. And they have never known you, but they will come running because I
am the LORD, the holy God of Israel, and I have honored you. 6
Turn to the LORD! He can still be found. Call out to God! He is
near. 7
Give up your crooked ways and your evil thoughts. Return to the LORD our God. He will be merciful and forgive your
sins.

Colossians 2 v6-7
6
As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7
rooted and built up in Him and established in the
faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
As we have received Jesus Christ, we are to delight in Him, meditate on His Word day and night
We are to be rooted in Him, we are to explore the depths of His riches like a tree planted near the river bank whose
roots continually search for more.
We are to be built up in Him. Jesus is our foundation. The tree which bears fruit must be recognizable as the work of
God.
Established – not moved. Our faith determines our level of establishment and resilience against the storms of life.
Always thankful – for we know how great a salvation gift we have received, for we know that by faith we can
withstand all onslaught since we are rooted in Him.
Matthew 15v13
13
But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.
The Father plants the tree – he is the vine-dresser (see John 15)
No other foundation will last. Matthew 13v30 30
‘Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I
will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat
into my barn.” ’ ”
John 6v44
44
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.
3. Ephesians 3 v14-19
14
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15
from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is
named, 16
that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the
inner man, 17
that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18
may be able to
comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19
to know the love of Christ which
passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
This is the living water – verse 19 - 19
to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all
the fullness of God.
1 John 4 v7-11
7
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8
He who does
not love does not know God, for God is love. 9
In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only
begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and
sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
1 John 5 v11,20
11
And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 20
And we know that the Son of God
has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son
Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
