The ease with which false information can be spread on the internet highlights the need for
individuals to conduct background checks on news and articles they encounter (Vargo & Guo,
2017).
A study by Pew Research Center (2018) found that over 60% of Americans surveyed reported that
they had shared false news on social media, highlighting the importance of taking the time to

multiple sources and perspectives when researching news stories, as this can help to identify any
biases or inaccuracies in reporting.

research project, author reputation is crucial. Depending on the type of source, there are many
methods for judging if an author is reputable. The methods employed for books, papers, and

These news feeds can also be linked together because they cover related events. Identifying these
connections is crucial for understanding the information flow as well as the reliability and

challenging. (Bahrainian, Mele, Crestani, 2019).

8. In today's world, where information is easily accessible on the internet, it has become
challenging to differentiate between authentic and fake news. To verify the authenticity of
news, various tools and techniques are available. Fact-checking websites have emerged as a
valuable tool in the fight against fake news. These websites verify the authenticity of news
articles by conducting extensive research and providing evidence to support their claims.
Studies have shown that fact-checking websites are a reliable source of information (Pennycook
& Rand, 2018).
Another, Social media platforms have become a breeding ground for fake news. However,
social media can also be used to verify the authenticity of news articles. Studies have shown
that social media platforms can be used to identify the source of a news article and verify its
authenticity (Kim, Hsu, & Neumann, 2016).
Another approach to verifying news articles is to seek expert opinion. Experts in various fields,
such as science, politics, and economics, can provide valuable insights into the authenticity of
news articles. Studies have shown that expert opinion can be an effective method of verifying
news articles (Kahan, 2015).
