1. Essay On Adversity
"Write a brief essay explaining how you have succeeded in the face of adversity in your life."
The 2014â2015 school year at GladbrookâReinbeck was a difficult and turbulent year for everyone involved, because of the GâR school's financial
problems. Funds had been stretched to the breaking point due to declining enrollment. The school board, which my dad was on at the time, voted to
close the school building in Gladbrook to save funds. As a result, I had work to have a quality education and a good year, despite the drama between
kids at school, the constant questions and gossip from adults, and additional stress at home.
The social changes I dealt at school with were the most difficult. I saw, and was involved in countless conversations about the school's situation. Talking
in the halls turned to heated arguments, and sometimes these escalated to the point where bystanders taking sides, until a teacher came along to break
it up. Discussions in class invariably turned to the topic of the...show more content...
The most obvious changes were that my dad was home even less than before. He had already been working 50+ hour weeks, and on multiple church
organizations with meetings when he joined the board. Even when my dad was home, he kept busy. It seemed as though he was constantly receiving
mail and email, everything from the next meeting's minutes to lengthy email rants to "thankâyou" notes. Between all the disputation regarding the
initial decision, and the multiple lawsuits against the school and school board filed by Gladbrook residents in the following weeks, there was no
little amount of stress added to my dad's life by this. My dad's stress affected my stress levels, and added to the fear that the entire population of
Gladbrook was going to hate him after all of this. Between this and the rest of the stress I had as a high school junior, it was enough to drive me a more

2. Reflection About Adversity
How a person handles adversity can be compared to how items react in hot water. Hot water causes things to become either hard, like an egg; soft,
like a carrot; or change the environment, like coffee beans. The same can be true for individuals and how they react to adversity. In my seventeen
years of life, I have handled adversity like an egg by becoming hard when hurt, a carrot by becoming soft regarding school, and flourishing as a coffee
bean by making mature decisions.
Sometimes people can be unreliable and disappointing and unfortunately, I experienced this as a teenager. When this occurs, it can be hard to trust
people, but easy to shut others out. I had people I looked up to hurt me and my family, which caused me to become hard, like an egg when placed in
boiling water. I felt as though I was falling, and no one would come to catch me. It not only hardened my heart, but also my attitude towards the ones
that hurt me. I felt alone, and had to force myself to smile when it hurt. My motto has also been to "smile through it" when things were hard, but I
truly had to force myself to smile when everything came crashing down. I was a hard egg, cracking on the inside.
High school is difficult, and taking the most rigorous courses can be stressful and demanding, both mentally and physically. During my junior year of
high school, I chose to enroll in the Governor's School but I had not comprehended what I was going to encounter. The Governor's School was a
timeâconsuming and strenuous decision. I had not learned to truly study and prepare for college classes effectively. Homework took the place of
free time. Stress from taking all college courses as a sixteen year old weakened me, making me extremely emotional. The stress was overwhelming,
and I didn't know how to manage my time or the challenging work itself. From the stress and overload of homework, I became soft, just as a carrot
when placed in hot waters.
A coffee bean is a delicacy in some countries, and is rich and flavorful when brewed in hot water. This is the last example of how to handle adversity.
As a teenager, it is important to make wise decisions because each one can have a lasting effect on your future. Parties are common occurrences for high

3. Horace Adversity Analysis
Once a Roman poet, Horace, noted, "Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous time would have lain dormant." Horace's
examines the role that adversity plays in the development of a person's character and understanding trouble and hardships. In times of difficulty,
when adversities are faces, one true character is revealed. As Horace witnessed, adversity doesn't only bring people down, but to acknowledge the
hidden talents that were unknown to them. During these strenuous times, the true talent of human nature is revealed. Of course, adversity is
ultimately inevitable in life. When a problem arises, individuals are generally astonished at the response to the complexity of the situation. This
makes adversity becomes a wall that is unable to be broken down. However, there is a point in an individual where their instincts can reveal the
truth, "it's part of life to have obstacles, it's about overcoming obstacles, that's the key to happiness." Qualities and characteristics of individuals are
revealed during the hard times. These talents that are within us, that are usually locked up to give the ability for an individual to unlock the adversity
that it created. In this sense, an individual true color and nature can be revealed leading to a new understanding of the capability to overcome
adversities. However, there are many great people who had overcome adversity through being grit. For example, a famous author, J.K. Rowling is
known for her bestâselling series Harry Potter. However, Rowling was not rich or famous before the series, she faced many challenges throughout her
life. Around the age of twentyâfive, Rowling discovered that her mother died from a disease, later, she got married, but she struggled in her marriage
with her husband, soon they got a divorce. In addition, Rowling was a single mother, who took care of her daughter on welfare. Through the struggle,
wanting to commit a suicide, she decided to do something that she is very passionate about, writing. At this point, Rowling's began to take a drastic
turn for the better, the idea of writing a Harry Potter book. Years later, after she had finally finished the book, she sent it to an agent, but it got declined.

4. Adversity In My Life
Throughout my life I have faced adversity that has made life challenging at times. It may have been hard to deal with, but it has made me strong and
shaped me to be the man I am today. I know that adversity is simply a part of life and everybody will come across it, but how you handle it and
overcome it is what truly builds your character.
One obstacle that I have had to overcome in my life, is being African American. Unfortunately, in today's world African Americans are still
disrespected and stereotyped just because of the color of their skin. Personally, I choose to ignore the stereotypes because of the fact that I know that I
am better than that. Instead of being focused on how others may characterize me I focus on who I am, and continue to do the things that make me
unique. Due to the fact that I focus my attention on academics and sports, I was awarded the Dome award by the NAACP (National Association for
the Advancement of Colored People) for being an African American that excels in both sports and academics.
Another obstacle that I have had in my life, is being raised by a single mother. The fact that I have never had a father figure has been difficult for me at
times. For example, without a father my family has only one income to live off of. Even though my mom has done a phenomenal job raising our family
with that single income, we have struggled at times. Another example, is that without a father I lack support at times. My mother is always there for me

Throughout the course of my life I have overcome much adversity. I often lie in bed and ponder how I survived such a fatal misfortune. I was two
years of age when I lost my mother in a tragic car accident while I held on for the fight of my life. The roads were wet and my mother's car had
been sent slewing into oncoming traffic, leaving her pinned between the passenger and driver side door. The life drained from her body almost
instantly. My head managed to bust through the window adjacent to me while a fragment of plastic from the car punctured through my skull. The
accident left me with broken bones, including a fractured skull, and scars all over my body. I have been told by others how my mother appeared in her

High school has been a pathway full of barriers that have brought me to sudden halts when I happened to least expect them. My freshman year was
smooth as could be, but early my sophomore year all hell broke loose when a custody battle was unleashed between my adoptive parents. I
practically cut ties with the man who stood as a father figure of mine since I had lost my mother. He was my mother's father, and saying goodbye
to him was saying farewell to the last person that I was connected to by blood. This was losing a father all over again, but this time I grasped an
understanding of what was occurring. My junior year was a fresh start, to getting back on track. Everything went as planned until my second semester
I was set back again, this time it was mononucleosis that stood in my path for half of a year. Half a year of education is invaluable. I regrettably failed
two classes that I was extremely passionate about, chemistry and English. Although the most successful people not always had the best grades while in

times in my life, I have been in situations where I have faced adversity: in the classroom, on the basketball court, or just among people I know. The
following essay will be detailing a major moment in my life in which I was faced with a difficult time or misfortune. Growing up in a small
community, you don't tend to see a lot of diversity, especially when it comes to ethnicity. A large fraction of Wabash County's population is made up of
white people, which can sometimes make it somewhat challenging to be African American in a white dominating community. I was born in Chicago

Which are you? Gail Lynne Goodwin once said, "Adversity provides the opportunity for the best part of us to shine." In all situations of adversity
people act differently. Some in positive ways as well as some in negative ways. I personally have seen myself be the carrot, the egg, and the coffee
bean. If I had to choose one that I am mostly like, I would say the coffee. In situations of meeting new people and trying new things I see myself
trying to make the most out of it. If you do not take advantage of new situations I believe that you will end up regretting it. This goes along with the
quote, "In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take." This is the perfect quote for the coffee bean, because they grow by changing. Other
situations I could be considered the carrot. I say this because when things change and aren't working out for me I tend to shut down. This is not a good
thing. Sometimes through these situations I also find that I'm not being true to myself. Through change you should try your hardest to grow for your

12. Speech On Adversity
Everyone experiences adversity. Challenges that everyday people experience can potentially shape, improve, or destroy one's sense of self and
personality. Through all these hardships and seemingly impenetrable obstacles, the most pertinent component of one's ability to overcome can only be
shown in actions taken despite the odds. People have one of two options; to let those obstacles overwhelm them and keep them from pursuing all that
they were destined to accomplish, or to march forward, fight harder and push past the seemingly impossible circumstances to become greater than they
ever expected to be, but until they take the step that enables them to be successful ââ they are stranded. All of our actions, mistakes, successes, and
behaviors shape our person and what we can or cannot become, but what will always matter is our individual decisions and actions not those of the
people around us because at the end of the day, we are the ones who have to deal with ourselves.
The adversity in my life began with the loss of things which had significant meaning in my life. There is an array of things to be said here, but the
most important of them is my self security. As I was growing up, because my parents were divorced, I never had a stable environment that I knew
wouldn't change until I was about ten, and even that changed. When I had reached the age of ten, I stopped being moved around as much until I was
about fifteen. During this time I made many mistakes and as I did,

Facing Adversity At some point in all of our lives, our "peaceful" game of life is thrown off balanced when adversity comes to knock us off the
path to our goals. Sometimes it throws us completely off balanced, while other times is just another hurdle to jump over. It tests us, tries to make us
lose hope and cave in on ourselves. As humans, adversity is inevitable, and no matter how hard we try to avoid it, we find ourselves facing yet
another challenge. Occasionally, the beliefs we were built on allow us to easily break through, but other times were are left confused. This is true for
me because I remember fondly of the time I had to face an obstacle; the time when I was first introduced to the sport tennis.

One major was with Italy. The Italian general Benito Mussolini thought Italy could get world power if it invaded Ethiopia and so he did. But Italy

that was 24 years ago. Eritrea started a war with Ethiopia wanting to be an independent country. Eritrea soon became an independent country, but
that war went on for a long time before it finally ended. These wars fought in Ethiopia are similar to the ones described in A Long Walk to Water.

18. Adversity Negative Effects
Intro: Adversity; misfortune, disaster and trauma. We have seen adversity on both the major and minor levels of the past, present and in fiction. We
often see in all aspects the negatives that adversity leads to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from the
Columbian exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York Times' article by Andrew E. Kramer, one reads about the
financial growth Russia faces after a long time of recession. Likewise, in Catherine Hyde's "Pay it Forward" One will read about the emotional and
mental growth people have after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement to flourish. We see adversity everywhere in life, and although there
are many negative consequences that go along with adversity, eventually, it will lead to development and a rise in success.
The Columbian exchange had many moving parts to it, however, a largely known negative impact was the massive fatalities diseases spread by trade
and exploration had on both Europeans and native societies; these massive epidemics slowly brought growth to the world. "The Columbian
Exchange" by Alfred W. Crosby, is an article that shows the statistics and impacts that the Columbian exchange had on those who lived during it, as
well as the people who came generations after. Crosby explains how these diseases impacted Native Americans by saying,Qte 1: "Smallpox was the

Adversity is something that everyone will encounter in their lives. Adversity influences the character of a person by offering opportunity that might
not have otherwise been found and presents a chance to come back with more knowledge after failure. Adversity bestows upon one the opportunity to
succeed. Roman poet Horace once wrote: "Adversity has the effects of eliciting talents, which, in prosperous circumstances, would have lain

observed in peace. In addition to adversity presenting opportunity, it allows people to come back after a failure and begin again more intelligently.
