disease . mental health is an integral and essential
component of health .
It is the foundation for individual well-being and the
effective functioning in a community.
Mental health is also related to promotion of mental
well-being ,prevention of mental disorders and
treatment ,rehabilitation of people affected by
mental disorders,
3. MENTAL HEALTH :-mental health is a term used to
describe either a level of cognitive or emotional well-
being or an absence of a mental disorder.
MENTAL ILLNESS:-mental illness is a collective
term that refere to all the differents types of mental
conditions,including those that affect your mood ,your
thinking and your behaviour.
PSYCHIATRY:- Psychiatry is the branch of medicine
focused on the diagnosis , treatment and prevention of
mental ,emotional and behavioral disorders.
4. PSYCHIATRIC NURSING :-Psychiatric nursing deals
with the promotion of mental health ,prevention of mental
illness,care and rehabilitation of mentally ill individuals
bolth in hospital and community .
ADDICTION :- addiction is a term used to define a state
of dependence or recurrent drug intoxication ,characterized
by psychological and physical dependence as well as
tolerance .
AGORAPHOBIA :- is a type of anxiety disorder in which
you fear and avoid places or situation (crowds and public
places )
5. AKINESIA :- lack of physical movement.
AMBIVALENCE :-co –existence of two opposing
impulses toward the same thing in the same person at
the same time .
AMNESIA :- partial or total inability to recall past
experiences.
ANERGIA :- Lack of energy for day to day activities.
ANHEDONIA :-Loss of interest in and withdrawal
from all regular and pleasurable activities.
6. ANOREXIA NERVOSA:-an eating disorder ,weight
loss below minimum normal weight , intense fear of
being fat.
APHASIA:-Difficulty in formulation of words or loss
of language ability or it is the disturbances in language
output .
ASSOCIATIVE LOOSENESS:-Disturbance of
thinking in which ideas shift from one subject to
another
7. BULIMIA:-The uncontrolled ingestion of large amount of
food followed by inappropriate methods to prevent weight
gain and for maintaining body shape .(vomiting ,excessive
exercising or fasting )
DELUSION:- False belief not true to fact and not ordinarily
accepted by other members explanation.
ILLUSION :- misinterpretation of external stimuli
HALLUCINATION :-A Hallucination is a perception in the
absence of external stimuli.
8. MANIA :-a serious mental illness that may cause
somebody to be very excited or violent .
EUPHORIA:- Mild elevation of mood
ECHOPRAXIA :-Repetition of another persons action
{ imitation }
MUTISM :- Inability to speak.
PHOBIA:- excessive fear of an object or situation .
9. AGITATION :-Marked restlessness and
excessive motor activity ,accompanied by
anxiety
AMNESIA :- A Loss or disturbance of
memory
ECHOLALIA :-Repetition of another
persons spoken words.
BATTERING :- Is a harmuful or offensive
touching of another person .
10. ECHOPRAXIA :-A Movement disoeder in which
the person automatically and inappropriately
imitates or mirrors the movements of another .
CRISIS :- Crisis is an initial disturbance that
results from a stressful event or a perceived threat
to self .
ANGER :- A strong feeling that makes you want
to hurt someone to be unpleasant becouse of
something unfair or unkind that has happened .
11. AGGRESSION :- Aggression refers to behavior that is
intended to cause harm or pain aggression can be either
physical or verbal .
AUTISM :- Autism is a lifelong developmental
disability that affects the functioning of the brain and
characterised by impairments in social interaction
problem with verbal and non –verbal communication and
restricted repetitive behavioral ,intrests and activities.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD ):-
ADHD DEFCIT hyperactivity disorder
is one of the most common childhood disorders and can
cantinue through adolescent and adulthood .
12. Enuresis :- Enuresis is defined an involuntary
wetting in children 5 year of age .
Delirium :- delirium is an acute organic mental
disorder characterize by impairement of
consciousness , disorientation and disurbances in
perception and restlessness.
Dementia :-dementia is an acquired global
impairment of intellectual memory and personality
but without impairment of consciousness.
Substance use disorders:- substance related
disorders are a significant health problem in todays
society problem. In todays socitety problem
associated with abuse of alcohol , tobacco , and other
drugs .
13. Schizophernia :- A Group disorder manifested by
fundamental disturbance or disorientation in
thinking , mood and behavior , last for atlest a
month of active phase symptoms like delusion
,hallucination , disorganized speech and affected
mood .
ANXIETY:- Anxity is your bodys natural
response to stress it’s a feeling of fear .
OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER:-
OCD Is a mental disorder in which people have
unwanted and repetad thoughts, feelings , ideas
sensation and behavior that drive them to do
something over and over .
14. Phobia:- A phobia is an unreasonable fear of
a specific object activity or situation .
ANOREXIA NERVOSA :- Anorexia nervosa is
an eating disorder occurs most often in
adolescent girls, the problem is found as
refusal of food to maintain normal body weight
by reducing food intake .
Deja vu: It is an experience of seeing with
feeling that one has seen it before but does
not know when & where.
Dystonia: Involuntary muscular movements
(spasms) of the face, arms, legs and neck
15. Echolalia: Repetition of another person’s words.
Electro convulsive therapy: A type of somatic
treatment in which electric current is applied to the
brain through electrodes placed on the temples.
Fugue:A sudden unexpected travel away from
home with the assumption of new identity, usually
occurring in response to severe psychological
stress.
Fight of ideas: Over productive speech
characterized by rapid shifting from one topic to
other & fragmented ideas.
16. Generalized anxiety disorder: A disorder
characterized by chronic (at least 6 months)
unrealistic & excessive anxiety & worry.
Mutism: Complete absence of speech.
