1. Conversation between two friends:-
Student 1 Hey! It is really a great confusion. I am completely puzzled.
Student 2 What happened? Tell me. May be I can help you.
Student 1 I got confused in our today’s civics class when our teacher taught
us about Indian constitution.
Student 2 Yeah, same with me. I also have some questions like
What is the difference between Constitution Day and Republic
Day? If both are observed to celebrate our Constitution, why do we
celebrate them separately?
Student 1 Yeah true, who all were the people in making this longest written
constitution?
Student 2 How many years it took to complete? Etc.
Constitution Oh my God! So many questions.
Student 1 Who are you?
Student 2
(with a
pause)
Where did you come from?
Constitution
(Loudly)
I am the Constitution of India.
I have come from your book.
Student 1 Really, Can you give all the answers, we are looking for?
Constitution Yes, I am available to quench your thirst of knowledge.
Student 2 OK, Let me ask now first. Can you tell us, what is the constitution?
What was the need to make the Constitution?
Constitution I will explain you everything with the help of my creators
Student 1 Creators? Who are they?
Constitution I had been formulated by the members of Constituent assembly,
consisting of 389 members. Today I will introduce you with some
of them today.
Dr Rajendra Prasad, Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, Vallabh Bhai Patel,
First meet the President of Constituent assembly. Dr Rajendra Prasad
enters.
Raj P I am Dr Rajendra Prasad, I had been elected as the President of
the Constituent Assembly of India, which prepared the Constitution
and served as its provisional Parliament.
Student 1 Under your guidance 389 members drafted the Constitution, is it?
R.P Yes, Earlier they were 389, when India was partitioned, constituent
assembly also was divided and some members left to Pakistan
and 299 members were left.
Student 2 How many years it took to complete this longest written rule book
Sir?
2. R.P It took 2 years 11 months and 18 days. It was finally accepted on
26th
Nov 1949. All the members had signed the document.
Student 2 Yes, it’s true but I have a doubt if 26th
Nov is the Constitution day
then why did we wait till 26th
Jan to get it implemented?
Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and Maulana
Abul Kalaam Azad enter.
Jawahar
Lal Nehru
(JLN)

November?
JLN In 1929, Indian National Congress at Lahore session, decision
through voting had taken place on two issues by the active
participants and leaders of freedom struggle.
Vallabh
Bhai Patel
(VBP)
The Issues were:
1. Whether British involvement is required to run our country?
Maulana A
K Azad
Or Poorna Swaraj’ means the idea of complete independence of
Government.
JLN Majority voting was done in favour of Poorna Swaraj on 26 Jan
1930. It was a historic day in Indian National Movement.
VBP That’s why to commemorate the Poorna Swaraj Diwas, it was
decided to bring the Indian Constitution into effect on 26 Jan 1950.
Student 1 Interesting, it means multitude of people must have thought of
Poorna Swaraj.
JLN Obviously, after numerous years of slavery, we wanted everything
in our control.
Student 2 For performing such big responsibility framework must have been
required.
3. Maulana
Abul Kalam
Azad
Yeah it is absolutely right.
VBP The Constituent Assembly met first time on 9th
Dec 1946 under the
temporary president Dr Schhidananda Sinha who was the eldest
members.

elected as President of Assembly, who later became the President
of India.
Rajendra
Prasad:
In third meeting on 13 Dec1946, Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru presented
an objective Resolution, laying down the underlying principles of
Constitution. (A child holds Preamble)
Student 1 I know that this Objective Resolution was later declared as the
PREAMBLE of the Constitution.
Constitution After that I came into effect on 26th
Jan 1950 declaring this day as
the ‘Republic Day of India’. To tell you more about me, I would like
you to meet my real creators who brought me onto the papers.
