1. Phoebe Pugh
Phoebe Pugh is an RSA TEFL Dip certified, Adult and Young learners ESL instructor with over 25
years of professional teaching experience with multicultural learners at various universities,
colleges and language centers, primary and secondary schools in Europe, the Middle East, Africa
and the United States.
She received her secondary education in Europe and received her BA degree at the University of
Arkansas. She obtained her RSA TEFL diploma from the British Council in 1981 and her QTS from
Cheltenham & Gloucester college of Higher Education in 2002. She has also worked as an IELTS
instructor and examiner.
Her teaching experience includes teaching General English at all levels and all age groups,
Business English, ESP (English for Law, Social Sciences, Economics, Military, and Dentistry), and
preparing students to take the Cambridge PET, KET, FCE, and IELTS exams. She was an IELTS
examiner for 2 years.
Phoebe is a native speaker of English and is fluent in French and Italian and has learned some
Arabic. She was with Abu Dhabi University for more than 4 1/2 years working within the IPD
department. Her focus and interest was on working in Literacy and she gained a lot of
experience in material and curriculum development using technology to enhance her teaching.
She helped create and publish tailor-made ESP textbooks while working there as well. In the 80s
she lived in Dubai for 7 years and taught with the British Council.
After working in Abu Dhabi she went to live and work in Manfredonia, Italy for a year and a half
doing free lance English tutorials to professionals, University students, high school students and
children. She prepared a number of students to take the University of Cambridge IELTS, FCE,
PET and KET exams.
This past summer, she was employed at a multicultural primary school teaching TESOL to pupils
from Pakistan, the UAE, and Eastern European countries. She is now working at Itchen College,
Southampton preparing IELTS, iGCSE and BEC Business English students to pass their exams as
well as teaching NVQ French and AS French grammar and mentoring a PGCE French language
student.
