3) The author feels they applied more diverse techniques like quotes, freebies and more information in the main task compared to the preliminary task.
Improving Photoshop skills through magazine project
1. Looking back at my preliminary task I feel my knowledge of using Photoshop has expanded. For
example I now know how to make elements of my magazine stand out more by using drop
shadows and outer glows. In addition to this, I have increased my knowledge on how to select
parts of photos using the quick selection tool, this really helped me with my front cover image.
Progression on Photoshop:
When planning what I wanted with my
masthead I used Photoshop
toenhance some features. I wanted to
keep the colour black however I just
wanted to add effects such as drop
shadow. I used drop shadows to add
more mystery to my simple but edgy
masthead. I also used an effect on the
texture called embossing this gave my
masthead more of a 3D effect, making
it more eye catching . I also duplicated
several times one of my fonts I first
chose as part of my plan then slightly
moved them so that it had an effect
were it looked like it was
moving.Having a black masthead hada
strong effect on the whole magazine
cover as the colour stands out from
the contrasting white background.
2. I’ve also gained knowledge on how to download better more interesting that suit my magazine more fonts
from dafont.com, increasing the variety of typography in my magazine. I feel as though I have used more
diverse techniques than my preliminary task. For instance I have included quotes, freebies and more
information to attract the audience where as my preliminary task lacked this.
When my front cover shot I learnt which equipment I need for the camera ad also how to set up the studio
for the white backdrop . Using a phone rather than a digital SLR camera was mainly because of my lack of
experience, also I planning more in-depth for my mise-en-scene, costumes and props. My understanding
of many softwares has improved significantly throughout this project. At the beginning I had never used
Indesign at all however I feel that I’m quite comfortable with it.
Process of changing background
•Select rectangle tool then
draw a box around your
page
•Once selected go to colour
toolbox and choose what
colour you want
Overall I feel my main task looks much more interesting because of my improvements and developments
in comparison to the preliminary task.
