Romance is something that should never end. Romance brings love, happiness, and a joyful life. One of the true definitions of romance is, "an
emotional attraction or aura belonging to an especially heroic era, adventure, or activity" (Romance, n.d.). However, when someone thinks of romance
they can see how much of a concept it is. It could be different for everyone because not everyone's definition of romance or romantic activity is the
same. For a man named Jim, it could be him offering his arm to a woman when they are walking. Yet, on the other hand, for a random girl named
Emily, it could be having the man walk on the streetside of the sidewalk so he could protect her.Romance started centuries ago and is not going to end

Nevertheless, the idea of romance did not just pop up like a jack–in–the–box. The origins of the modern celebration lie in the 18th century with the rise
of romantic marriages. Writer, Elizabeth L. Maurer (2017), from Nationals Women's History Museum had stated that "During the 18th century, society
encouraged young people to select their marriage partners based on their romantic attachments. This was a decided change from past practice when
marriages had been arranged...between families or clans." So the young people at that point had to figure out what they liked and what they did not

The men really had to come with the best of the best because the women now had the option to reject them. The men had to think of ways to show their
interest, bringing them flowers from the garden, taking them out to dinner on a Friday night, or even taking off their hat when they were talking to the

Romantic love as a cultural script includes the belief that love is all you need; true love lasts forever; true lovers become one; love is pure and
good; and anything done in the name of love cannot be wrong (Ben Ze'ev & Goussinsky, 2008). Romantic ideology encompasses positive aspects of
love, such as mutual devotion and intimacy. This influence is present in a beginning scene where Angela is talking to Mamen about her boyfriend
and stating her faithfulness. She explains how she is able to separate the job (prostitution) from her loyalty. Even if work is busy, 30 guys in a day,

work. Zulema also contributes to the romantic script by showing us some affiliation as she cooks for one of her returning clients. A final instance that
is in the grey area between insanity and romantic love is Caya's mother, Pilar. Looping into the ideology that true love lasts forever, we can see how
Pilar continues to love her dead husband because she does not accept the fact he has passed. During the film, Pilar consistently receives flowers to
her house from an anonymous sender. At first perception we can think she has a secret admirer. Subsequently, her son supports the idea of the
admirer, but Pilar insists that they are from her husband. It is later revealed by Caya that she had been sending flowers to herself the whole time.
Physical attractiveness is especially important to men choosing a prospective sexual partner or mate, as shown by research in many cultures. Males
will usually choose good looks, whereas women favor personal qualities and earning abilities. Preference is also determined by sexist attitudes about
gender roles. People with more sexist beliefs about gender role ideologies prefer partners who have traditional masculine/feminine qualities
(Crawford, 2012). Using the films schema, we can identify good looks as big breasts, big butts, nice hair, fixed nails, and a clean appearance overall.

Love is a virtue. Especially in the context of romantic love. It is a mutual deep affection that instills both partners with the feeling of happiness, a sense
of safety, and unity. These feelings however, originate as neurotransmitters. Chemical substances traveling between synapses providing us the feeling

Isolation psychosocial phase. This phase lasts between the ages of 18 up to 40, the longest range out of any stage. According to Erikson, one can live
a life of fulfillment if one acquires all the virtues throughout all the psychosocial stages in life. Virtues include hope, will, purpose, competency,
fidelity, love, care, and wisdom. Erikson proposes that we pose a major existential question to ourselves between this age range (18–40) and that
question is " Can I love?" As soon as this question is spawned, then a battle between intimacy and isolation begins. In other words, Erikson believes
that the reason why we engage in love–type behavior is to avoid the negative feelings associated with isolation. According to evolutionary psychologist
Richard Dawkin, he proposes that the psychology behind love lyes all in the evolutionary need to be in a group setting and to, frankly, propitiate the
human species (Dawkins et al., 2016). For Dawkins, the need to engage in love type behavior is similar to Erikson in the sense that we are avoiding
isolation, but Richard's hypothesis revolves more around the benefit of being in a group. The idea is the more isolated one is (in neanderthal ages)
more likely that person is to perish. Additionally, Dawkins suggests that love is an evolutionary hardwiring that helps us propitiate the human species.

How has our perception of love changed throughout the centuries? In today's media, our perception of romance has been distorted due to movies, tv
shows, and songs. While in the Middle Ages, literature and ballads were how most people learned about romantic love. "Stories told through the ages
to describe variations of love as it is found, challenged, lost, denied or thwarted, only to flare up again, carrying all before it, or else destroying the
lovers in a conflagration of desire ." Although, our culture is more open and accepting of relationships, in the Middle Ages, secrecy and adulterous

something shared between lovers. But at medieval court, the term 'lover' referred to the person with whom someone danced, giggled, and held hands.
As long as the rules relating to chastity and fidelity were strictly adhered to, such as having heirs with your spouse or waiting to have intercourse until

Love is an interesting concept. Wikipedia describes love as "a variety of different emotional and mental states, typically strongly experienced"
(Dictionary.com). Romeo and Juliet, written by Shakespeare, portrays the illogical choices that may be made when in love. Another source explains
how love is addicting in the poem "The Raven" written by Edgar Allen Poe. "The Gift of the Magi" depicts people who mistake love for lust. The
force of romantic love inflicts harm on many because it persuades lovers to make irrational decisions, it is negatively addictive, and many cannot

In the poem "The Raven", addiction is a prominent theme. It is shown in lines 82 and 83 when the widower is asking for "'Respite –– respite and
nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore; / Quaff oh quaff this nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore...'" (Poe). If one is asking for a fictional medicine
that would dissolve their depression, then they are enamored with something harmful. Specifically in this poem, the widow is drunk on memories of
Lenore and wishes to be free; however, he is devoted to his lost love and therefore will never become independent. Another example of co–dependence
is portrayed later in the poem. Poe writes, "'By heaven that bends above us –– by that God we both adore –– / Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within
the distant Aidenn, / It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore – ...'" (92–94). The man is so obsessed with his partner, that he asks

All our cultural conditioning makes us regard love as a single positive feeling, when in fact there are a multitude of feelings, including those of envy,

traits. Monogamous marriages exploit emotional work systems in the sense that they require the exchange of obedience for love. This is
demonstrated by the idea that if two spouses are in love, they'll do whatever each individual asks in needs and demands to make one another feel
secure and complete in reciprocating their feeling of love toward each other. After all, "exchanging obedience for love comes naturally– we were all
once children after all, whose survival depended on the caprices of love; and thus you have the template for future intimacies"(Kipnis, page 93). Lastly
another patriarchal trait that is displayed by marriages is the tradition of the changing of names.
