Pearl Harbor Effects
On December 7, 1941, The Japanese launched a surprise attack on the naval base stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This attacked launched America
into World War Two. The attack on Pearl Harbor brought forth an astounding amount of change to both the United States and Japan. The United States
became the biggest power in the Pacific and it eventually led to the military advancements such as the atom bomb. One of the main effects of Pearl
Harbor was the destruction of the United States Pacific Navy Fleet stationed in Hawaii at the time. The Japanese fleet that attacked Pearl Harbor
included "four battleships, two heavy cruisers, ten destroyers, and two dozen long–range submarines" ("Japan Attacks and America Goes to War.").

Before America, Japan was the main power in the Pacific. This was apparent until the United States defeated them with the dropping of the atomic

such as steel. However, with the United States recovering from the war, it was forced to outsource some of its manufacturing workload to other
countries, mainly China. During the 1920's and the 1930's, the world was going through the Great Depression. America had struggled through this
period of economic downfall. However, Japan emerged earlier than other countries because its economic success came from government deficits used
to expand Japan's heavy industry and military. Many other smaller Pacific nations saw Japan as an invincible power that no Western nation could
overcome. Yet, after their war campaign against America, Japan was left crippled. Japan's main supplier of oil, the United States, regulated trade with

Attack on Pearl Harbor! Did we know?

Pg #1
Did we know about the attack the occurred in Pearl harbor? Was there any sign or possible way of changing what happened? Did someone or a group
of people that could were have been more careful mess up? Or was there some one that knew about the attack or had an idea that it was coming but
didn't say anything? An why did the Japanese choose Pearl Harbor of all place to strike an attack, was their a significance? These are all question you
might ask your self in confusion about the attack on Pearl Harbor. In the following I will show you why and how some of these things came about.

8:05 am level bombers at battleships. Ships like the Oklahoma, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Arizona were all hit by torpedoes. During the attack,
many of our pilots noted the brave efforts they put in, in trying to put some aircrafts off the ground. But they were too greatly outnumbered. The
Japanese would just shoot all of our planes before lift off or crash into them if were about to take off from the ground. "There efforts were negligible
but their courage commanded the admiration and respect of our pilots." (#3–4)
The US was stunned and enraged by the attack. President Franklin D. Roosevelt called it "a day of infamy." The next day, December 8, 1941, the
US declared war on Japan. The Japanese had planned out this attack well before it occurred. Working hard and discussing how to do it. There had
already been in tension between the US and Japan before this whole thing occurred. They just weren't sure how or with what to strike because the
waters of Pearl Harbor are real deep. They wanted the attack to be the most effective on possible. So they put fins on

This investigation evaluates to what extent did the embargo set on Japan by the
United States during 1940 and 1941 evoke Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor is often regarded by many American's as a 'surprise' attack
that was gratuitous, while historical documents from principal figures on both the Japanese side and the side of the U.S, but there has been evidence
and research to the contrary. Pearl Harbor is one of the most memorable events in World War II from U.S perspective. While one may debate as to
whether or not the U.S would have still entered WWII (though the argument strongly leans to the former,) the attack on Pearl Harbor served as symbol
of sacrifice for the American people and help contribute to the patriotism that...show more content...
Given that this is directly from Washington, it's assumed that the events mentioned are accurate, along with accounts of diplomatic relations and
foreign policy between the U.S and Japan. Having taken into account that this address is by FDR, the source is limited in Japanese perspective and
the motives in their conquest of Asia and Pacific Islands. There is also an imbalance between historical facts and FDR's propagandic speech to
promote patriotic feels. And within this pool of historical facts, while the majority of the address is about Japanese–U.S relations, there is a vast
amount of information on the The Third Reich's campaign in Europe and Africa that is not crucial to my research Additionally, these relevant historical
events are not discussed in detail.

Attack in Pearl Harbor
Attack in Pearl Harbor in December 1941 shocked United States to its core. It signaled not only an utter destruction of an important naval base and
the loss of many lives, it in the first place signified the beginning of a great struggle for nation's survival. At time when France fails to Germany, and
Russia and Great Britain are at the verge of failing, nothing seemed to prevent the Nazi and its powerful allies to conquer the world. And though Attack
in Pearl Harbor was shocking, the nightmare of expected upcoming tribulations was much greater.
While incidents similar to that in Pearl Harbor were perhaps unconsciously expected by many Americans as they were observing great struggles on
European scenes of war,...show more content...
In the second essay it is described how some Japanese asserted their rights in the Court after defying the order to relocate to detention centers. And
how lawsuits brought by Japanese at the beginning of relocation were ruled against by the courts, only eventually to be reexamined under procedure
of coram nobis and ruled in favor of (though too late to help most Japanese to short significantly their stay in camps). However criminal charges of
those who defied the orders of internment were cleared off only 40 years after their imprisonment.
In the second essay Peter Irons also ponders on the reasons Supreme Court affirmed the constitutionality of internment in Gordon Hirabayashi v. United
States and similar cases. Certainly, Supreme Court Justices weren't immune from mass–paranoia and prejudices against Japanese during the trial, as
well government and public pressure to uphold status quo. (As the Supreme Court justices weren't immune to prejudices and outside pressure during
Plessy v. Fergeson decision). However even more striking is the description of how a judge was tampering with jury by asking them to rule against
Japanese plaintiff.
In the third essay Michi Wegilyn mention an important fact of how Canada removed its small Japanese minority a month before United States did that,
and how this might had set a precedent for United States. Moreover, Canada treated Japanese harsher by confiscating their property in order to use it
for supporting internment

The main focus on this essay is "Why Did Japan Attack Pearl Harbor?". On a normal Sunday morning when the American navy units were busy
doing their normal routine work, the Japanese navy planned a surprise attack that stunned the world. This attack was so unpredictable that the
entire American navy went in deep shock. Very few of them realized the need to manage and control their position to save the naval power. All the
staff and ships that were present at the Pearl Harbor suffered massive loss. Just a couple of hours of bombing gave the Pearl Harbor, a battlefield
view with fire and smoke emerging from every corner. The attack left American navy at a loss of 2400 of her best men as well as 21 ships that were
either sunk or completely demolished....show more content...
Japan believed they were the fountain of the Yamato race and believed they were superior to any other asian race (Document A). Japan also thought
that America would crumble and become "Old Orders" (Document A). Japan's expansion into Asia caused them to go after the bigger countries.
The second and one of the more underrated reasons Japan attacked Pearl Harbor was because of America putting an embargo on their oil. In August
of 1941, America stopped shipping goods to Japan. The many goods America shipped to Japan were vital because it was more of an underdeveloped
country and couldn't get the good themselves. As provided in Document D, more than 70% of Japan's oil came from the United States. When that
drastically changed it provided a valuable explanation to why Japan declared war.
The last and final reason is that Japan thought America would crumple their power and also attack them first. Japan thought that America had the
means and potential to attack them first so they wanted to get out their first and prevent an attack on their end. In closing there are many reasons as to
why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. It was a surprise attack that has left many americans still in shock and confusion to this

The Pearl Harbor Attack
December 7, 1941 the Pearl Harbor attack was a big event in history that led to the US joining World War II. It was a surprise attack, the attack
lasted from 7:55 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The Japanese had over 2,000,000 ground troops and air fleets together that were trained, while the Americans had
over 1,000,000 ground troops and air fleets all together which most of them were not trained at all. The US was unprepared because they did not
believe that the Japanese were on the verge of attacking the United States but plans were made to attack against the United States as early as January
1941. Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. All the planes on the Japanese ships were fully fueled and
armed. The attack planes came in two waves which were approximately forty–five minutes apart and more than 2,000 American soldiers and sailors
died in the attack, while about 1,000 were wounded. The...show more content...
The next day after the attack president Franklin D. Roosevelt asked the congress to declare war on japan. The congress soon approved his request.
Germany and Italy were Japanese allies, they were known as the Axis powers and three days later they also declared war on the United States. Great
Britain, France and Russia were Americas allies. Before the Americans joined the war they were only committed to sending war supplies on loan to
their allies. When the Japanese left the Americans didn't know it was over, they were expecting another wave to hit. After two years of conflict it soon
became World War II. The surpriseattack on Pearl Harbor will always be a big event in history and it will also be an unforgettable day for many. The

Pearl Harbor was a attack on a naval harbor base in Hawaii. The Japanese flew planes over and tried to destroy the base. The attack was also known

The Japanese were making plans for the surprise attack as early as January of 1941(Brett, pearlharborwarbirds.com).When the attack started it was a

Introduction
At approximately 8 o'clock in the morning on the 7th of Dec 1941, the United States of America faced for the first time in history, an attack on US
soil. The Empire of Japan had strategically planned and executed a swift blow to the state of Hawaii, located in the mid–Pacific Ocean. Hawaii was our
first line of defense from any westerly attack of an Asian country. By the end of the almost 2 hour ordeal, our Naval and Air Corps assets' were
brutally crippled preventing the ability of the US to conduct an immediate retaliation. In this study we will cover many of the events that led up to that
moment in time, the actual attack and show the result that were to follow.

The United States had not finished decoding the last and final message until the late morning of the 7th Eastern Standard Time. The final message
stated to cease relations with the US and prepare to announce their declaration of war at 1PM EST. A bit late (1130 EST) and after learning of its
content, General Marshall ordered immediate defensive posture in Hawaii once realizing the time difference between the main land and the
islands. Unfortunately this fell on deaf ears due to complications of the atmosphere blocking radio communications, Washington had to send word
via commercial telegram which did not arrive until well after the attack. By the early morning of December 7, 1941 the Japanese Naval force led
by Admiral Nagumo had parked his fleet of 6 aircraft carriers 230 nautical miles off the north coast of the Hawaiian Islands completely undetected.
The fleet had approximately 423 aircraft with a final destination of Pearl Harbor. At 600 a.m. the first wave of 180 aircraft were launch to attach the
sleeping Hawaiian bay. At 702 a.m. an Army radar station sights the aircraft inbound and report to their direct officer who is aware of a squadron of
B–17's due in from the west coast and write off the sighting am friendly forces. This was the first of many mistakes that would become evident within
the hour.
At approximately 715 a.m. the Japanese fleet launches their second wave of aircraft bound for the same objective. Unbeknown to the military stationed

Many other smaller Pacific nations saw Japan as an invincible power that no Western nation could overcome. Yet, after their war campaign against America, Japan was left crippled. Japan's main supplier of oil, the United States, regulated trade with Japan do to their recent military actions. Left with no option, Japan Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Working hard and discussing how to do it. There had already been in tension between the US and Japan before this whole thing occurred. • 4. The Pearl Habor Attack This investigation evaluates to what extent did the embargo set on Japan by the United States during 1940 and 1941 evoke Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor is often regarded by many American's as a 'surprise' attack that was gratuitous, while historical documents from principal figures on both the Japanese side and the side of the U.S, but there has been evidence and research to the contrary. Pearl Harbor is one of the most memorable events in World War II from U.S perspective. While one may debate as to whether or not the U.S would have still entered WWII (though the argument strongly leans to the former,) the attack on Pearl Harbor served as symbol of sacrifice for the American people and help contribute to the patriotism that...show more content... There is also an imbalance between historical facts and FDR's propagandic speech to promote patriotic feels. • 5. Attack in Pearl Harbor Essay Attack in Pearl Harbor Attack in Pearl Harbor in December 1941 shocked United States to its core. It signaled not only an utter destruction of an important naval base and the loss of many lives, it in the first place signified the beginning of a great struggle for nation's survival. At time when France fails to Germany, and Russia and Great Britain are at the verge of failing, nothing seemed to prevent the Nazi and its powerful allies to conquer the world. And though Attack in Pearl Harbor was shocking, the nightmare of expected upcoming tribulations was much greater. While incidents similar to that in Pearl Harbor were perhaps unconsciously expected by many Americans as they were observing great struggles on European scenes of war,...show more content... In the second essay it is described how some Japanese asserted their rights in the Court after defying the order to relocate to detention centers. And how lawsuits brought by Japanese at the beginning of relocation were ruled against by the courts, only eventually to be reexamined under procedure of coram nobis and ruled in favor of (though too late to help most Japanese to short significantly their stay in camps). However criminal charges of those who defied the orders of internment were cleared off only 40 years after their imprisonment. In the second essay Peter Irons also ponders on the reasons Supreme Court affirmed the constitutionality of internment in Gordon Hirabayashi v. United States and similar cases. Certainly, Supreme Court Justices weren't immune from mass–paranoia and prejudices against Japanese during the trial, as well government and public pressure to uphold status quo. (As the Supreme Court justices weren't immune to prejudices and outside pressure during Plessy v. Fergeson decision). However even more striking is the description of how a judge was tampering with jury by asking them to rule against Japanese plaintiff. In the third essay Michi Wegilyn mention an important fact of how Canada removed its small Japanese minority a month before United States did that, and how this might had set a precedent for United States. Moreover, Canada treated Japanese harsher by confiscating their property in order to use it for supporting internment

On a normal Sunday morning when the American navy units were busy doing their normal routine work, the Japanese navy planned a surprise attack that stunned the world. This attack was so unpredictable that the entire American navy went in deep shock. Very few of them realized the need to manage and control their position to save the naval power. All the staff and ships that were present at the Pearl Harbor suffered massive loss. Just a couple of hours of bombing gave the Pearl Harbor, a battlefield view with fire and smoke emerging from every corner. The attack left American navy at a loss of 2400 of her best men as well as 21 ships that were either sunk or completely demolished....show more content... Japan believed they were the fountain of the Yamato race and believed they were superior to any other asian race (Document A). Japan also thought that America would crumble and become "Old Orders" (Document A). Japan's expansion into Asia caused them to go after the bigger countries. The second and one of the more underrated reasons Japan attacked Pearl Harbor was because of America putting an embargo on their oil. In August of 1941, America stopped shipping goods to Japan. The many goods America shipped to Japan were vital because it was more of an underdeveloped country and couldn't get the good themselves. As provided in Document D, more than 70% of Japan's oil came from the United States. When that drastically changed it provided a valuable explanation to why Japan declared war. The last and final reason is that Japan thought America would crumple their power and also attack them first. Japan thought that America had the means and potential to attack them first so they wanted to get out their first and prevent an attack on their end. In closing there are many reasons as to why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. It was a surprise attack that has left many americans still in shock and confusion to this Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. Pearl Harbor Introduction At approximately 8 o'clock in the morning on the 7th of Dec 1941, the United States of America faced for the first time in history, an attack on US soil. The Empire of Japan had strategically planned and executed a swift blow to the state of Hawaii, located in the mid–Pacific Ocean. Hawaii was our first line of defense from any westerly attack of an Asian country. By the end of the almost 2 hour ordeal, our Naval and Air Corps assets' were brutally crippled preventing the ability of the US to conduct an immediate retaliation. In this study we will cover many of the events that led up to that moment in time, the actual attack and show the result that were to follow. The United States had not finished decoding the last and final message until the late morning of the 7th Eastern Standard Time. The final message stated to cease relations with the US and prepare to announce their declaration of war at 1PM EST. A bit late (1130 EST) and after learning of its content, General Marshall ordered immediate defensive posture in Hawaii once realizing the time difference between the main land and the islands. Unfortunately this fell on deaf ears due to complications of the atmosphere blocking radio communications, Washington had to send word via commercial telegram which did not arrive until well after the attack. By the early morning of December 7, 1941 the Japanese Naval force led by Admiral Nagumo had parked his fleet of 6 aircraft carriers 230 nautical miles off the north coast of the Hawaiian Islands completely undetected. The fleet had approximately 423 aircraft with a final destination of Pearl Harbor. At 600 a.m. the first wave of 180 aircraft were launch to attach the sleeping Hawaiian bay. At 702 a.m. an Army radar station sights the aircraft inbound and report to their direct officer who is aware of a squadron of B–17's due in from the west coast and write off the sighting am friendly forces. This was the first of many mistakes that would become evident within the hour. At approximately 715 a.m. the Japanese fleet launches their second wave of aircraft bound for the same objective.
