Boy Is a Short Story by Bruce Stewart which is set in the late 1950's. The boy is about a 5– year old child that grows up with problems with his culture
and family. Boy does not know he is Maori as his Dad who is not Maori, which confused the young boy quite a lot. So the young boy gets bullied by
other kids at his school for being different, The other boys thought it would be cool to name call a new boy who tended to be different. The boy is a
young Maori Boy who mostly grows up with his mum. Boy's mum gave him the love he needs as his Dad was not a Maori and didn't understand
how Boy is getting treated at school by the older Boys. This story is quite upsetting as Boy went through a lot with his peers at school as they bullied
him and he also had trouble with his family which must have been very hard for him as he is very young. I chose to read this Short Story because it
would be great for a personal response and It had a lot of important key points I could talk about and express my feelings about.
I felt very frustrated for Boy, his father was very rude to him and abused him. Boy did nothing wrong to his father, he seemed to get abused quite often

In class we discussed "saying no" being apart of our plans and I know that this is a must for me. At times I find myself running around like a
chicken with its head cutoff. If only I had the courage to tell people no when I really need to the most. This will be tough for me but I know that it

My Experience Of Reading
While I was in middle school in sixth grade I actually didn't know how to read books or any story my teachers would give me. As I was reading
through the passages they would give me, I noticed that while I read a story it wouldn't stick to my head. I then told myself that it is going to be
difficult to read passages since nothing would click in my head. There were times where the teacher would have the students and I take mini
quizzes and I would hardly understand on what the reader was talking about. I would fail the quizzes due to the reason that I never gained much

I know that is definitely what got me to read more often. I started to read anything I could get my hands on just to earn free pizza. All of the kids
loved it! It was a great way to encourage kids to read a little more. Although I may not remember much about learning to read, I do remember a little

Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years
I have never been the type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express myself by writing narratives, book
reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people
tend to misunderstand my point if it is written.
When I sit to write, I have to think about what I want to say. This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my mind
and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider myself a strong writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will
be critiqued. The sense of failure when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like the newest local headline of a recent murder is disheartening

Finally, I want to end with what my ultimate goal is when I find a career. Well, first I want to find a career I'm content with doing. I don't need to
love it, but something I won't blow my brains out for down the line. After I choose the career and find a job, I'll make sure I budget my money
wisely as to better my chances of living relatively comfortable. Then, finally, do what I love as a hobby. At least, that's the initial plan so far.

Short Stories and Poetry There are many different forms of writing that all fall under the name literature. These different ways to create literature are

Short literary works are confined to the boundaries on length according to their specific genre; they don't have time for lengthy or slow introductions.
William Faulkner's "A Rose of Emily" (p. 443) begins immediately with a startling statement about Miss Emily's death. Faulkner creates a first
sentence that describes how "our whole town went to her funeral" (1), using of course the first person form of "we" (28, 43, 46, etc...) The narrator
is most likely one of the townspeople who represents the point of view of the entire town. Through the use of plural first person narration, the author
makes the reader feel as if though they are part of the story, grasping his or her interest more quickly. Faulkner employs this first person narration in
the first sentence of his story, thus immediately capturing the reader's attention. The reader's engagement in the story also adds to its emotionality. By
feeling as though he or she is a part of the story, the reader often feels sadness, joy and other emotions with the characters of the story. When the
townspeople were "surprised when Homer Barron...was gone" (46), the use of "we" (46) forces the reader to feel the same confusion and shock that
