12. Summary
Since the creation of the WWW (World Wide Web) many aspects of our lives have changed. I would
say, the way we communicate with each other is one of the most important. Now we live connected
with the world, we have access to information and people in general 24 hours a day, but 9 million
people struggle to make social connections (Independent, Sabrina Barr, 26th November 2018).
The way we purchased has changed as well, 82% of the UK has purchased at least once a month
online. That affects the high street shops as the local shops. Ikea, the Swedish furniture store will close
one of their stores because of the change in customer behaviour shopping more online than in the
physic store.
How we consumed TV and movies is indeed one of the revolutionary changes in our society, first came
YouTube as a way to express yourself and your knowledge on the Internet. Now we have Netflix,
Amazon Prime Video and others that offer us content when and where we want, for a monthly
subscription, of course. The streaming TV services are very popular between the 16 to 34-years olds.
My conclusion is that, we a consuming society that it’s very demanding, we are used to having the
products that we purchased online the next day in our door, the video that we want to watch on the
tube without waiting, the website that we are checking has to download in 3 seconds or we won’t
check it anymore.
In my opinion, we became impatient and we don’t know how to appreciate the time and our human interactions,
we forgot how to talk to a stranger because we have more important things on our smartphone. I would say that
our most important part of our body is our smartphone.
