7. “Me In 12 Slides…..
(And Less Than 5
Minutes!)”
23. Tne real answer
is…
Parents moved here over 30 years ago
Have a lot to offer
Help to make a difference
Enjoy living and working in different cultures
Looking for a new professional challenge
I want to learn lots of new things to broaden my own
knowledge and experience about education
24. What about my educational
beliefs and values?
To ensure that EVERY child has the best possible
opportunity to fulfill their potential – Miss Rita Pierson
Preparing our students for a successful life in the 21st
Century – Shift Happens 2016
To make learning fun, to excite, enthuse and motivate all
students – The Train Loop
25. So what next?
I look forward to meeting all of you
I look forward to meeting all of the students
I look forward to meeting the parents
I need to familiarize myself with the school
No big changes
All of us need to have fun
26. Final Thoughts (for
now)…
“I was supposed to be a welfare statistic…it is because of a teacher that i sit
at this table. I remember her telling jus one cold, miserable day that she
could not make our clothing better; that she could not provide us with food;
she could not change the terrible segregated conditions under which we lived.
She could introduce us to the world of reading, the world of books and that
is what she did.
What a world! I visited Asia and Africa. I saw magnificent sunsets. I tasted
exotic foods. I fell in love and danced in wonderful halls. I ran away with
escaped slaves and stood beside a teenage martyr. I visited lakes and
streams and composed lines of verse. I knew then that I wanted to help
children do the same things, I wanted to weave magic.”
(National Commission on Teaching And Americas Future, 1999)
27. And remember…
Children get just one childhood and it should be
memorable and life forming.
If children are genuinely to achieve the goal of being
successful learners, responsible citizens and confident
individuals they need to encounter inspirational teachers
who will have sufficiently high expectations to encourage
them to take far greater responsibility for their learning.
Schools and teachers need to make learning deep through
giving them real issues to explore and not just filling their
heads with information.

32. Thought For The Year
This year, I’d like you to consider the following.
Within your classes, do you provide...
Just in case learning *
OR
Just in time learning *
* Guy Claxton (What’s The Point Of School, 2008)
Editor's Notes
Staffing Allocations – we’ve had 11 teaching support staff with at least another member of staff to follow in order to support interventions.
SIP – ours needs to reflect the DES Improvement Plan (copies will be made available to everyone) but will focus mainly on Literacy, Numeracy and Behaviour. SLT will be finalizing our plan over the coming weeks and submitting by the end of September – once completed, we’ll be discussing at a staff meeting and obviously it will lead the work that we do this year on school improvement.
Deadlines for reporting – submission of various info incl. data / PM to be completed by end of September.
Use of Data – careful use of levels and sub levels and a greater focus on what they mean
Performance Management – reminders about the process, the making of accurate judgments, the use of monitoring activities such as lesson observation and work scrutiny
Private Gainful Operation – A reminder to talk to all staff about this – taking on ANY other paid employment must be approved by the CEO my understanig is that this also applies to ‘after-school provision’
