After a busy summer
of barbecuing and
spending time at the
lake I was looking for-
ward to the crisp fall
weather and the idea of
spending time indoors.
Growing up I have
many childhood memo-
ries of going to the local
bowling alley with my
mother, Georgette who was in a bowling league. The
bowling alley was my playground before I even
started kindergarten. I was fascinated with the shag
carpet on the walls, the paper score sheets that con-
tained numbers, X's, and dashes, and of course my
mom and her bowling friend’s laughter with the con-
tinuous crack of the bowling pins.
I've never been an athletic or coordinated person,
but I must admit that I possess some great skills on
the bowling lane. I’ve have had many hilarious mo-
ments bowling with friends and family. As I entered
my 20's and continued to go bowling, I bought my
own bowling shoes and my mother passed down her
engraved bowling ball "George" to me.
The challenges of the bowling industry have led to
closures of many bowling alleys in our communities.
I haven't bowled in three years, so I was very excited
when I learned about Springfield Lanes and The
Garage.
Located in downtown Springfield, just 30 minutes
from Redwood Falls, Springfield Lanes and The
Garage offers an 8 lane bowling alley with a bright
and open aired restaurant.
With an easy to use automatic scoring system, and
priced at a budget friendly price of only $3.50 per
game, per person, that includes free shoe rental, it was
easy to fall in love with Springfield Lanes. Plus, their
new bowling shoes won’t have you scared to put them
on your feet.
Joining me was my sister Kelli, and my 9 year-old
niece, Jessica. With two novice bowlers we decided to
do the bumper bowling, with music playing on the
stereo system. My niece was ecstatic when she hit a
strike. After a few games of bowling we were hungry
and ready to eat.
Connected to the bowling alley is The Garage,
which is listed on the National Historic Registry and
offers a full menu of traditional American food.
Owner Cory Brand has operated the bowling alley
for the past 24 years. Brand has poured his passion
and dedication of the sport and of the community by
offering a clean, comfortable, affordable, and family
friendly facility.
Brand is continuously updating and making im-
provements. Many peo-
ple enjoy the nostalgia
and friendly competi-
tion of bowling and
Brand receives a
strong following
with customers
coming from as far
as 40 miles.
