Biertan is the village of the commune with

5. 2. HISTORY
Biertan is one of the first German
settlements in Transylvania in the
"Two Chairs" (Mediaş and Şeica) in
the Andreean Diploma (Andreaneum)
1224.
Biertan is documented in 1283, in a
document alongside Mediaş and
Moşna.
In 1397 Biertan is certified as a
fortress.
6. 3. AHITECTURE
The medieval architectural complex
consists of the church and the
fortification belt, being placed in the

8. In ancient times, in the eastern bastion
there was the "carcera", where couples
(husband and wife) who were arguing and
were about to divorce were for two weeks.
In the small room with a small table and a
single bed, the Saxon community provided
them with a single dish, a single cutlery and
a single cup of water. It is said that, under
those circumstances, only one pair
remained unwavering in the initial decision
to divorce, all the other couples coming out
there reconciled, without resorting to justice.
9. Donarium from Biertan. It
was discovered in 1775
at the root of a tree in the
forest of Chimdru,
located 5 km south of
Biertan, representing an
argument of existence in
this space, after the
Aurelian withdrawal (271
AD) a Latin-speaking
Christian population.
