2. GASTRIC
ULCER
Also known as STOMACH ULCER
are open sores that form on the stomach's lining.
Additionally, a section of the intestine just above the
stomach may develop ulcers. The term for these is
duodenal ulcers. Peptic ulcers are sometimes used to
describe stomach and duodenal ulcers. These details
apply to both.

WHAT CAUSES
STOMACH ULCERS
When the barrier defending the stomach lining
from acid breaks down, stomach ulcers develop.
This makes it possible for the stomach lining to
suffer harm.
Signs/Symptoms of Gastric Ulcer
An abdomen-wide burning or gnawing pain is the most
typical sign of a stomach ulcer (tummy). Some stomach
ulcers, though, do not hurt and are only discovered after
a complication like ulcer bleeding occurs.
5. 1
2
This is usually caused by:
- An infection with
Helicobacter pylori (H.
pylori) bacteria
- Taking non-steroidal anti-
inflammatory drugs
(NSAIDS), such as
ibuprofen or aspirin
particularly if they’re taken
for a long time or at high
doses.
There's little evidence
that stress or certain
foods causes stomach
ulcers.
6. Gastric
Ulcer
"H. Pylori Bacteria"
H. pylori bacteria live in the stomach lining.
The bacteria can irritate the stomach lining
and make it more vulnerable to damage from
stomach acid. Infections are common. It's
possible to be infected without realizing it
because the infection doesn't usually cause
symptoms. People of all ages can be infected.
It's not clear exactly why some people are
more vulnerable to the effects of H. pylori
bacteria than others.
7. Non-Steroidal
Anti-Inflammatory
(NSAIDs)
NSAIDs are medications that are frequently used to
treat pain, inflammation, and a high body
temperature (fever) (swelling). NSAIDs are
frequently used without any negative side effects.
However, there is always a chance that the drug
could lead to issues, like stomach ulcers, especially if
taken frequently or in high doses.
Commonly used
NSAIDs include:
Ibuprofen
Aspirin
Naproxen
Diclofenac
8. Internal
Bleeding
Perforation
Internal bleeding's the
most common
complication of stomach
ulcers. It can occur when
an ulcer develops at the
site of a blood vessel.
A less common stomach ulcer
complication is perforations. The
stomach lining splits open at this
point. This poses a serious risk
because it allows stomach
bacteria to escape and infect the
lining of your abdomen
(peritoneum). Peritonitis is the
term for this.
“Complications”
Complications are rare but can
be very serious and
potentially life-threatening.
The bleeding can either be
slow and long-term, or
rapid and severe.
9. Symptoms Include:
- Vomiting large amounts of
undigested food.
- A consistent feeling of
bloating or fullness.
- Feeling more full than
usual after eating less food.
Gastric Outlet Obstruction
In some cases, an
inflamed (swollen) or
scarred stomach ulcer
can obstruct the normal
passage of food
through your digestive
system. This is called a
gastric outlet
obstruction.
- Unexpected weight loss.
10. “Treating
Stomach Ulcers”
If a H caused your ulcer, antibiotics will
be used as treatment. infected with
pylori. By eliminating the bacteria, this
should stop the ulcer from returning.
If NSAIDs were the cause of your ulcer,
a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) will be
used in your treatment. These will be
prescribed by your doctor, who will also
go over whether you should continue
taking NSAIDs. It might be advised to
use paracetamol as an NSAID
substitute.
