My Experience With My Grandmother
Personally, I believe wisdom is defined as a quality that some people possess of having experience and knowledge in general things throughout
life. These people found their chi (I guess you could say) in life and are comfortable in the state they are currently living. Before I started this
interview assignment, I had hopes of learning more about the life of my grandma and the difference of living from the 1930s to 2017. From the
very beginning, when I reading through the syllabus, I knew I was going to interview my grandma. My grandma is the relative who I am closest
to, besides my dad. Yes, I would have interviewed my dad because he would be 70, but sadly he had passed away. I thought this would be perfect
for me and my grandma because, though I hear so many stories all the time, I never get tired of listening. The interview was arranged at her house,
over a cup of coffee and cookies. The questions I thought of pertained to my grandma's life (i.e. how did you meet grandpa and how long did you
wait until marriage; what influenced your life decisions and why...etc.). I developed these questions regarding my grandma's life because I didn't
want to make it like an interview, so I arranged the questions to sort of tell a story. I usually never call my grandma by her name (Pauline Cahoe); I
just call her grandma. So, with that being said, my grandma is a 91–year–old lady. She loves going consignment shopping with me, and we go every
other weekend. She is Catholic, and she loves her

Descriptive Essay About My Grandmother
My grandmother was a tough lady.
At just over five feet tall, she was the kind of woman that you saw on the street and knew to move out of her way. Her demeanor was strict, her hands
tied with thick blue veins, crissВcrossing over her thin, frail fingers.
I remember holding her hands as a child, how delicate and soft they seemed and yet that never made them seem any less worn or sturdy. Her hands
told stories of different times, of different worlds and hardships. She had grown up worlds away from me, in a different land, at a different time, in an
era and a life that I would never know.
My grandmother had stories.
But, she never told stories. Her stories were in the way she ate – she savored her food, cherished it. Often she would be...show more content...
She was seldom outwardly affectionate. She didn't need to be. When I wrapped my arms around her small frame, afraid I would break her, she
responded with a strength disproportionate to her size.
She held tightly, like she was holding on for dear life, and then she let go, she smiled and she moved on.
My grandmother was an intelligent woman.
She had little schooling, but she had run businesses. She had managed on her own, with a husband and sons, in a country that didn't care for her or
her culture, but only for their aggrandized version of it. Her experiences were rightful cause to be jaded and hard, and yet she saw brightness and she
saw brightness in me. She saw the great things in life, she loved hard and appreciated the little things – us going for a walk together or just sitting in the
sun on a warm day.
My grandmother's stories were in her complaints.
My grandmother complained about petty things: things that I would complain about. But she never complained about life and she never complained
about pain.
My grandmother had developed a brain tumor, which when removed, removed much of her immediate memory. For a long time, she didn't remember
my name. She had no idea who I was. But she tried and she learned.
She understood perseverance and the importance of people and she carried on against all odds. The last time I spoke to her, she knew exactly who I
was, despite

My Grandmother Essay
Every day was a struggle. Every morning, every night. Every second I would ask myself one single question would my grandpa be alright? It all
started with our annual trip to California. Every summer, my family and I take a trip to Sacramento to spend time with my grandparents. We
always have a good time and I can't imagine doing anything else during my summer. Eating out, watching movies, and spending quality time with
Simran and my grandparents, is overall, without a doubt, my favorite thing to do. I've always had a certain connection to my grandpa, or as I used
to call him, my nana. I can't explain why, but my grandpa was the shoulder I would cry on. He was the one person I could rely on to always be
there, because he always was. I knew I could count on him. It was a sunny day, way too sunny. I woke up to the bright, shining California sun. The
birds were chirping, the trees were swaying, the flowers were blooming, and the grass was greener than ever. It felt like a good day, it really did. I
even believed it was a good day for a second. However, I was snapped back into reality when I heard my grandma, or my nani, sobbing in the other
room. Oh, how reality can suck you in. In the split of a second, your best moments can turn into your worst. Your smile can turn into a frown. Your
nani, one of the strongest people ever, could be sobbing. "Nani, are you ok?" I asked. She turned to look at me with tears streaming down her face. I
had never seen my nani cry. She wrapped

Describe My Grandmother Essay
I often get asked who is the person I admire and look up to the most, the person whom I look up to and always will is my abuela (grandmother),
Margarita Romero Herrera. My grandmother is one of the most influential, generous, caring person I have in my life and I am blessed to have an idol
like her growing up. By far one of my favorite memory with her is when I was younger, like around 2 years old, on rainy days we would lay down on
the living room floor watching The Wizard of Oz while waiting for my parents to get home from work. It is beyond hard for me to describe my
grandmother because I know that the way...show more content...
My grandma is my mother's mother, of course is has to be a part in my life because of how close they are. To have someone like her in my life is a
blessing. I was always taught by her to be focused on myself, speak up when I something is bothering me, help others, respect others, and be
grateful. I have had my grandmother part of my life for about since the day I was born, there is not a day that I go without seeing her. The days
that I do not see her is hard because of how close I am to her than with my own mother. There is times I think my grandmother is more of a mother
to me than my actual mother is, perhaps even an angel sent to me because she truly is someone who I can go to and I know she'll protect me and
help me when I need it most. My grandmother was born on January 17, 1952 in Guadalajara, Mexico. She is the the youngest of her seven siblings,
3 boys and 2 girls. While growing up in Guadalajara, Mexico, she lived with her mother, Catalina, she never had the chance to live and grow up with
her father, "me acuerdo que era un hombre alto pero no muy bien lo conoci" (I only remember him being a tall man but I did not know him that well).

My Grandfather– The Gift of My Life
If I could be like anybody, I would wish to become more like my late grandfather, whose memories have inspired me to strive for success, like the
smell of old, dusty books which reminds me of his admiration on learning. An avid collector, he had many books, most of which went unread. He
owned books on everything from medicine to Spain, to several sets of encyclopedias. After he faced health problems, he came less to the library
and read fewer books. They became just part of the scenery, collecting only dust and memories. I have read a few now, after he is gone, and each
time it brings back a hurt like a sore that refuses to heal. But I suppose it is a quest of sorts, because if can take on his thirst...show more content...
This house had two floors with three bedrooms on the top floor and the storage rooms, where some of the goats also stayed, on the ground floor. The
house was built in the late 1800s before my father was born, it was my grandfather's skills in organizing family members and his strategic direction, of
delegating the business operation to his several sons, according to their skills and abilities. The result is a strong group interaction that has created the
foundation of our family business, which is considered one of the most successful family businesses in Yemen. However, I believe it is his independent
endeavor that established his early success in business, as is evident by the roughness of his hands, a roughness resulting from the labor of his work
throughout his life. At the same time, my father told me he would hold my father's hands, so gently with his rough hands when having a conversation
with my father.
The saddest part of my memories of grandpa was the day my father took me along with him to visit my dying grandfather, whose eyes seemed to be
drifting aimlessly around the room while his body and face remained numb. I still recall staring at his tanned and wrinkled skin that covered his
forearms and showed his veins in painful detail, and at the way he sometimes used his heel to scratch at his other leg.
I suppose it is hard not to notice a kid who has his face turned towards you week after week, year after year. But

Caring For My Great-Grandmother Essay
Life experiences, rewarding or difficult, are the factors that influence us. My great grandmother has always been one of my key role models. I have
always admired her independence, strong will, and caring nature towards all. For many years, she proudly lived by herself and independently took
care of herself. At seventeen years old, she became very ill. When she became exceedingly sick, my family realized that someone needed to
incessantly be with her, so my family and I moved into my great grandmother's home to bestow quality care and make her comfortable. Living at my
great grandmother's home for the last six months of her life was the most emotionally and physically difficult experience I have ever had to endure or
deal with, but it was...show more content...
I despised that she had lost her ability to be autonomous, one of the fundamental characteristics that made her who she was, but I had to learn how to
deal with it.
Though I was affected emotionally and physically, I learned an important lesson that I used to deal with the anxiety of providing care for my great
grandmother and plan to use throughout my nursing career: Use your emotions to empower you to perform the physical tasks that need to be
performed in order for the patient to sustain a state of comfort. Though it would be psychologically demanding to take care of someone who you
are slightly emotionally attached to, it would be more emotionally complex to take care of someone who you have been emotionally attached to
since the beginning of your existence. Since I was very emotionally attached to my great grandmother, it made the situation more problematic for
me, yet it also made me a better person. When my family recognized that we were medically needed to facilitate my great grandmother, I was
frightened at first because I knew I would be one of the primary caregivers living with her. At first, I was alarmed over the thought of taking care of
someone I significantly loved and admired because I would be watching them suffer constantly, yet I did not let this hinder me. I learned to use my
feelings for her to enable and strengthen me mentally to implement the somatic and mental tasks that are required in

Digital Story of My Grandmother Who doesn't love a close relative? Imagine what it is like to be alone, without a supportive family member. Just like
John Lennon's song, Imagine. Think about what family can do to you, and how they impact your life. Especially, a grandmother.
My grandma Pauline, was literally my world. I loved her so much, and still do. I used to walk to her house almost every weekend. She knew
everything about me. She always had a salver, filled with my favorite confectionary. A saccharine, vanilla Tootsie Roll. Her countenance would glow,
as I ate the petit, pearly treat. Every time my mother, and my sisters would visit her, she would quote, "You made my day!" I miss those meaningful
days. My granny Pauline, I only had known her for nine years, but somehow counseled myself to build a limited bond, little did I know, would only

when I'm older? Of course, I was only about ages four through seven, thinking she will last forever, just like a stone, with a few changes, she would
always be Pauline Martins.
Years past. I am know nine years old. Things have become better, and worse. I remember every nick of time that has passed through the years. My

My Grandmother Was The Matriarch Of My Family
My great–grandmother was the matriarch of my family. When I was in seventh grade, around thirteen years old, she passed away due to breast cancer.
This misfortune created an extremely difficult time for me because, not only was I adjusting to the environment of junior high, but many other issues
were occurring in my life; this was the third death that I was having to deal with. Unfortunately, one of the previous deaths (that I was still trying to
hurdle through and come to terms with), had occurred almost exactly a year before the passing of my great–grandmother. The second death that I had
gone through occurred only one or two months before my great–grandma has passed. All of this turmoil created numerous internal conflicts for me, but
also taught me a key lesson to keep note of, for the rest of my life. My great–grandma was the life of the party and the flames in the fireplace. No
matter what she did, she made it very clear that she was not the least bit "bland"; she always stood out from the crowd. She was extremely vivacious
and always created a raucous; her voice could be heard from down the block. She painted her house walls mint green, had bright red–orange hair,
danced as though no one was watching, and cared for any–and–everyone (no matter what her feelings toward the person were.) If an event was being
held, it was already known that it was happening at her house. All parties and gatherings were held at her house. Her house is also where all the food

My Grandmother
My Grandmother goes by the name of babunya, and baba for short, this means grandma in Ukrainian. She lived in Ukraine for most of her life, and
she is almost 90 years old now. She's been through a lot in her years, thus her appearance has changed. For every wrinkle she has there's a story to
match. She has had every color hair: blonde, red, brown, and black. Now her hair is a short gray color. She keeps it short because it stays out of the
way, even though she hates it short. She has always had long her until now. She has also progressively become shorter over the years due to a very
bad back; she now stands just under five feet. Since she spends most of her days in the garden her usual outfit...show more content...

the same way everytime.
My grandma usually starts off by saying something along the lines of "how's school going for you? How are your grades? How is work going? Do you
like your teachers?" This part of the conversation doesn't last long
If there is one thing my grandma is good at, it's talking. She loves telling stories and talking about what's going on in the world today. Babunya is a
very sociable person and can hold a conversation with anyone.
My baba was born in a time when the only way you could have food on your plate for dinner was if you hunted it yourself. She would explain to me
that "living in a communist country was one of the worst things I have ever seen or been through. Not only was my country communist, we were
going through a famine. There was no way to get food because the government starved us. If I wanted to eat that day I would have to kill a bird or
whatever else was around that day." My grandma is a very strong woman. She grew up with 3 brothers and 1 sister, who were all older. She always
wanted to be like her siblings. Because her siblings were all older, my grandmother was a very fast learner. They taught her what they were during in
school so by the time she got to that grade level she already knew the information. My grandma

tried holding the tears back and tried having faith that it was nothing major. I was praying and asking God to please let my grandmother be okay.
My mind was all over the place. My mother finally called me back and told me that the doctors did some tests on her and found out she had a stroke,
so the ambulance took her to Mobile. It felt like my heart shattered after hearing that. I started crying and wondering what will happen next. I had
thoughts in my head about what will I do if I lose my grandmother. My life will be upside down because she was the one with me through thick and

My family and I took a trip to Mobile Infirmary. We had cars full headed to Mobile. The drivers had their emergency lights on and each driver was

big component in raising me and my two siblings to be the people we are today since she was located so close. Let me reveal the life this amazing
woman experienced and what made her whom she is today. In the year of 1956 on June fourteenth, a day we know as flag day my grandmother was

Effie was a stay at home mom accompanying responsibility of the chores, cooking and the children's wellness. Marvin spent his days at the nearby
post office to support the family of seven. My grandmother grew up with multiple siblings, being the youngest of three older sisters and one older

I feel that this quote best goes with my grandmother because of all of the events that she had to overcome throughout her life have shaped her into the
person she is today. My grandmother, Earline Joy, was born in 1937 and is still living a wonderful life. The event that affected her life include Civil

Under the Jim crow laws, Whites and blacks were separated in many daily activities (Altman 34). This made it harder for blacks in the society to get a

A Speech About My Grandmother
Family always come first to me, no matter what. Ever since I was little I remember going over to my grandmother's house every holiday with my
parents. For me, it was a very special time because I didn't get to see my grandmother as often as I would have liked. When the holidays were coming
up, I remember how excited I would get to go see her.
There comes a time in your life when you start to run out of energies and are not as strong as you used to be. When we are young we look at our
older loved ones and we never expect them to lose their strength. In our eyes they are similar to a super–hero in which they would never run out of
strength. But as a natural aging process, it will come sooner or later. My grandmother was a strong, independent women. To this day I still admire that
about her. When she started to lose her strength, little by little she needed help with things that weren't ever a problem for her, like cleaning around the
home, cooking big meals for the family and taking care of herself and her hygiene. My father, along with my aunts and uncles, knew that she no
longer would be able to be as independent. In order to prevent her from getting hurt or not being able to accomplish a task on her own, they knew it
was best to move her into a nursing home. At that age, around 9, I wasn't sure what this meant or how it looked, or didn't even understand the point

My Life Of My Grandmother
My Grandmother died a couple months ago. It wasn 't a sudden thing. It was a long time coming. I was standing in the kitchen with my dad when he
picked up the phone. He frowned, flicked his eyes to me, to my mother then back to me. He mumbled some confirmations then said, "That 's fine. I'll
be there shortly, thank you." He set the phone down on the table, and just briefly, I think I caught a fleeting glimpse of a smile.
I had known she was sick. My dad had mentioned it briefly, as if it was just a small thing not really worth talking about. It was just like reporting the
morning's news. But instead of, "Oh, the Reds lost again" it was, "Your grandmother is in the hospital. She isn 't doing too well." I'm not sure that he

all right, only to breakdown with syrup on his face and jam on his fingers. What I got was oatmeal, and a dad who looked well rested if not little

I knew my dad and grandmother were not on speaking terms. That much was always known and not hidden from me. But I thought...I don't know.
I thought there might have been something when she died. I just expected more, I guess. When he came home from the morgue or wherever he
had to go to after the call, I was in the living room and looked over my shoulder when the front door creaked open. My mom came up and embraced
him, he put his head on her shoulders and they just stood there, barely swaying in the foyer. I got up and walked over to them. My mom drew

Describe My Grandmother
I remember how happy it made my great grandma, Gigi, when we visited her. I remember how one day, my mom, dad, Grandma, my brother
Holden and I were visiting her, and we thought would be nice if I sang a song for her. I sang her the song that they play during baseball games,
"Take Me Out to the Ball Game" because she always was a big baseball fan. I sang her the whole song, including all of the extended verses. When I
finished, she was smiling, and that made me smile too. Whenever we went to my grandma Zeta's house in Sacramento, we tried to go and see her.
We would talk with her, or take her on a walk. One time, my mom, my dad, Holden, my cousin Braylon, my grandma Zeta, and I took Gigi for a walk
around where she lived. It was a sunny day. We walked past all of the tall, white buildings. The air was cool and fresh. Braylon and I were walking up
ahead of everyone else, and Gigi kept calling out to us. "Don't go so close!" She would shout whenever we got to close to the edge of the sidewalk.
However, there was lots of times when we would see pretty, vibrant flowers, or ducks quacking as they flying above us, and she would grin. When
I was little, she would come over to my Grandma Zeta's house more. She would talk with everyone, or watch the kids play, and beam. Everyone was
always really happy to see her. "We're here, you can unbuckle now," my dad told me and my brother. Today was May 21, 2012. It had been a long time

My Grandmother
This poem explores the relationship between the speaker and her grandmother. It focuses on the remorse and guilt she felt – and perhaps does still feel
– about the way she behaved towards her on one occasion, and can be seen as an attempt to exorcise this.
The poem is divided into four parts: the first stanza describes her grandmother working in the shop; the second the incident which causes her guilt; the
third stanza shows her in retirement. In the final stanza, after her grandmother has died, the speaker reflects on herself and her grandmother's life.
The first stanza sets the scene – the antique shop reflects the character and life of the grandmother. The words 'it kept her' suggest that it seems, to

In fact, beneath the images of polish, silver and brass lies someone who can be 'hurt', who feels though never speaks about how she feels, and who
comes to be
'frail'; the poem deals with the speaker's complex response to this realisation. The grandmother's life is bound up with the antiques even after she no
longer keeps the shop. They accompany her to the 'long, narrow room' in which she essentially waits to die. This third stanza is full of unattractive
images – shadows, the smell of absence, things too long shut up – yet the speaker still has to acknowledge that, to her grandmother, they represent 'all
her best things'. This imagery sums up the lfe of a person who has been defined by her antiques – 'the smell of absences' suggests the memories that the
grandmother attaches to these objects, but it also hints at an unfulfilled existence, while
'the shadows.../ That can't be polished' suggest the grandmother's loss of her habitual control as she nears death (a state itself often associated with
shadow), and are a disturbingly vague image.
In the poem's final image, 'the new dust falling through the air',
Jennings economically suggests the grandmother's joining of the antiques she devoted her life to. But this image simultaneously reminds us of her
absence from the room

will be one day Marissa where the sun is shinning and the birds are chirping and everything will be just as it should. That night a huge storm came, I
remember walking outside in the pouring rain all by myself maybe 6 years old and I sat behind this truck in the road and wishing that the sunny
beautiful day would come, I remember wishing for that day to come for my grandma and I wanted her to happy sitting in the sunshine laughing
enjoying herself, that is the first time I remember wanting good for someone else and not caring about myself or anything

My Experience With My Grandmother

  • 1. My Experience With My Grandmother Personally, I believe wisdom is defined as a quality that some people possess of having experience and knowledge in general things throughout life. These people found their chi (I guess you could say) in life and are comfortable in the state they are currently living. Before I started this interview assignment, I had hopes of learning more about the life of my grandma and the difference of living from the 1930s to 2017. From the very beginning, when I reading through the syllabus, I knew I was going to interview my grandma. My grandma is the relative who I am closest to, besides my dad. Yes, I would have interviewed my dad because he would be 70, but sadly he had passed away. I thought this would be perfect for me and my grandma because, though I hear so many stories all the time, I never get tired of listening. The interview was arranged at her house, over a cup of coffee and cookies. The questions I thought of pertained to my grandma's life (i.e. how did you meet grandpa and how long did you wait until marriage; what influenced your life decisions and why...etc.). I developed these questions regarding my grandma's life because I didn't want to make it like an interview, so I arranged the questions to sort of tell a story. I usually never call my grandma by her name (Pauline Cahoe); I just call her grandma. So, with that being said, my grandma is a 91–year–old lady. She loves going consignment shopping with me, and we go every other weekend. She is Catholic, and she loves her Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Descriptive Essay About My Grandmother My grandmother was a tough lady. At just over five feet tall, she was the kind of woman that you saw on the street and knew to move out of her way. Her demeanor was strict, her hands tied with thick blue veins, crissВcrossing over her thin, frail fingers. I remember holding her hands as a child, how delicate and soft they seemed and yet that never made them seem any less worn or sturdy. Her hands told stories of different times, of different worlds and hardships. She had grown up worlds away from me, in a different land, at a different time, in an era and a life that I would never know. My grandmother had stories. But, she never told stories. Her stories were in the way she ate – she savored her food, cherished it. Often she would be...show more content... She was seldom outwardly affectionate. She didn't need to be. When I wrapped my arms around her small frame, afraid I would break her, she responded with a strength disproportionate to her size. She held tightly, like she was holding on for dear life, and then she let go, she smiled and she moved on. My grandmother was an intelligent woman. She had little schooling, but she had run businesses. She had managed on her own, with a husband and sons, in a country that didn't care for her or her culture, but only for their aggrandized version of it. Her experiences were rightful cause to be jaded and hard, and yet she saw brightness and she saw brightness in me. She saw the great things in life, she loved hard and appreciated the little things – us going for a walk together or just sitting in the sun on a warm day. My grandmother's stories were in her complaints.
  • 3. My grandmother complained about petty things: things that I would complain about. But she never complained about life and she never complained about pain. My grandmother had developed a brain tumor, which when removed, removed much of her immediate memory. For a long time, she didn't remember my name. She had no idea who I was. But she tried and she learned. She understood perseverance and the importance of people and she carried on against all odds. The last time I spoke to her, she knew exactly who I was, despite Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Grandmother Essay Every day was a struggle. Every morning, every night. Every second I would ask myself one single question would my grandpa be alright? It all started with our annual trip to California. Every summer, my family and I take a trip to Sacramento to spend time with my grandparents. We always have a good time and I can't imagine doing anything else during my summer. Eating out, watching movies, and spending quality time with Simran and my grandparents, is overall, without a doubt, my favorite thing to do. I've always had a certain connection to my grandpa, or as I used to call him, my nana. I can't explain why, but my grandpa was the shoulder I would cry on. He was the one person I could rely on to always be there, because he always was. I knew I could count on him. It was a sunny day, way too sunny. I woke up to the bright, shining California sun. The birds were chirping, the trees were swaying, the flowers were blooming, and the grass was greener than ever. It felt like a good day, it really did. I even believed it was a good day for a second. However, I was snapped back into reality when I heard my grandma, or my nani, sobbing in the other room. Oh, how reality can suck you in. In the split of a second, your best moments can turn into your worst. Your smile can turn into a frown. Your nani, one of the strongest people ever, could be sobbing. "Nani, are you ok?" I asked. She turned to look at me with tears streaming down her face. I had never seen my nani cry. She wrapped Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Describe My Grandmother Essay I often get asked who is the person I admire and look up to the most, the person whom I look up to and always will is my abuela (grandmother), Margarita Romero Herrera. My grandmother is one of the most influential, generous, caring person I have in my life and I am blessed to have an idol like her growing up. By far one of my favorite memory with her is when I was younger, like around 2 years old, on rainy days we would lay down on the living room floor watching The Wizard of Oz while waiting for my parents to get home from work. It is beyond hard for me to describe my grandmother because I know that the way...show more content... My grandma is my mother's mother, of course is has to be a part in my life because of how close they are. To have someone like her in my life is a blessing. I was always taught by her to be focused on myself, speak up when I something is bothering me, help others, respect others, and be grateful. I have had my grandmother part of my life for about since the day I was born, there is not a day that I go without seeing her. The days that I do not see her is hard because of how close I am to her than with my own mother. There is times I think my grandmother is more of a mother to me than my actual mother is, perhaps even an angel sent to me because she truly is someone who I can go to and I know she'll protect me and help me when I need it most. My grandmother was born on January 17, 1952 in Guadalajara, Mexico. She is the the youngest of her seven siblings, 3 boys and 2 girls. While growing up in Guadalajara, Mexico, she lived with her mother, Catalina, she never had the chance to live and grow up with her father, "me acuerdo que era un hombre alto pero no muy bien lo conoci" (I only remember him being a tall man but I did not know him that well). My grandmother did not get to finish her studies Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. My Grandfather Essay My Grandfather– The Gift of My Life If I could be like anybody, I would wish to become more like my late grandfather, whose memories have inspired me to strive for success, like the smell of old, dusty books which reminds me of his admiration on learning. An avid collector, he had many books, most of which went unread. He owned books on everything from medicine to Spain, to several sets of encyclopedias. After he faced health problems, he came less to the library and read fewer books. They became just part of the scenery, collecting only dust and memories. I have read a few now, after he is gone, and each time it brings back a hurt like a sore that refuses to heal. But I suppose it is a quest of sorts, because if can take on his thirst...show more content... This house had two floors with three bedrooms on the top floor and the storage rooms, where some of the goats also stayed, on the ground floor. The house was built in the late 1800s before my father was born, it was my grandfather's skills in organizing family members and his strategic direction, of delegating the business operation to his several sons, according to their skills and abilities. The result is a strong group interaction that has created the foundation of our family business, which is considered one of the most successful family businesses in Yemen. However, I believe it is his independent endeavor that established his early success in business, as is evident by the roughness of his hands, a roughness resulting from the labor of his work throughout his life. At the same time, my father told me he would hold my father's hands, so gently with his rough hands when having a conversation with my father. The saddest part of my memories of grandpa was the day my father took me along with him to visit my dying grandfather, whose eyes seemed to be drifting aimlessly around the room while his body and face remained numb. I still recall staring at his tanned and wrinkled skin that covered his forearms and showed his veins in painful detail, and at the way he sometimes used his heel to scratch at his other leg. I suppose it is hard not to notice a kid who has his face turned towards you week after week, year after year. But Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Caring For My Great-Grandmother Essay Life experiences, rewarding or difficult, are the factors that influence us. My great grandmother has always been one of my key role models. I have always admired her independence, strong will, and caring nature towards all. For many years, she proudly lived by herself and independently took care of herself. At seventeen years old, she became very ill. When she became exceedingly sick, my family realized that someone needed to incessantly be with her, so my family and I moved into my great grandmother's home to bestow quality care and make her comfortable. Living at my great grandmother's home for the last six months of her life was the most emotionally and physically difficult experience I have ever had to endure or deal with, but it was...show more content... I despised that she had lost her ability to be autonomous, one of the fundamental characteristics that made her who she was, but I had to learn how to deal with it. Though I was affected emotionally and physically, I learned an important lesson that I used to deal with the anxiety of providing care for my great grandmother and plan to use throughout my nursing career: Use your emotions to empower you to perform the physical tasks that need to be performed in order for the patient to sustain a state of comfort. Though it would be psychologically demanding to take care of someone who you are slightly emotionally attached to, it would be more emotionally complex to take care of someone who you have been emotionally attached to since the beginning of your existence. Since I was very emotionally attached to my great grandmother, it made the situation more problematic for me, yet it also made me a better person. When my family recognized that we were medically needed to facilitate my great grandmother, I was frightened at first because I knew I would be one of the primary caregivers living with her. At first, I was alarmed over the thought of taking care of someone I significantly loved and admired because I would be watching them suffer constantly, yet I did not let this hinder me. I learned to use my feelings for her to enable and strengthen me mentally to implement the somatic and mental tasks that are required in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Grandmother Digital Story of My Grandmother Who doesn't love a close relative? Imagine what it is like to be alone, without a supportive family member. Just like John Lennon's song, Imagine. Think about what family can do to you, and how they impact your life. Especially, a grandmother. My grandma Pauline, was literally my world. I loved her so much, and still do. I used to walk to her house almost every weekend. She knew everything about me. She always had a salver, filled with my favorite confectionary. A saccharine, vanilla Tootsie Roll. Her countenance would glow, as I ate the petit, pearly treat. Every time my mother, and my sisters would visit her, she would quote, "You made my day!" I miss those meaningful days. My granny Pauline, I only had known her for nine years, but somehow counseled myself to build a limited bond, little did I know, would only last about nine years. I didn't know what could go wrong. Every night for three years straight, I would ask, Will Grandma Pauline come to visit me when I'm older? Of course, I was only about ages four through seven, thinking she will last forever, just like a stone, with a few changes, she would always be Pauline Martins. Years past. I am know nine years old. Things have become better, and worse. I remember every nick of time that has passed through the years. My family members constantly would notify me that she's getting old, and might forget things. It never came across my mind she would forget me. I wouldn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. My Grandmother Essay When I get hurt she's here when I cry she's here; when I needed her the most she was holding my hand the whole way, my grandma my everything my angel. You asked for A setback a challenge a failure, going through the death of the most loved person in your life is the most painful thing anyone can experience, and the biggest setback anyone can go through. My grandma was the most amazing person anyone could meet. My grandma loved everyone, and was loved by everyone she was friendly optimistic and amazing and showed nothing but love to everyone she met. She would sit outside every single night and look at the moon getting lost in the beauty of the world. I would sit with her and she would tell me her stories that could never bore me. As a 4th grader I would look forward to hearing those mesmerizing stories every night. 5 years ago my grandma became as sick as a person can be. Going through sickness and suffering was the last thing I would want my grandma to go through. I wish everything she went through was upon me instead of her. My grandma kept fighting till her last heart beat. We tried helping her with everything: medicine, love and care. We would go to the hospital and never let go of her and never leave her side, her face getting paler and getting closer to death every visit and our face getting more devastated every time We had to look at what she was going through. A month after we first found out she was sick; I remember it was about 6:00 am when my parents woke me, and my grandmas favorite song was playing. My heart beating as fast as possible; I knew something had happened. 5 minutes later my parents gathered me and my brother in the living room, then they break the news to us that our beloved grandma had passed away. My heart dropped my legs just gave out, and I started crying I just could not acknowledge what had just happened, and I Just wanted her to be alive, and wanted to hear one last story. but I knew that now more than ever we needed to be together, and we need love to get through this period. The second day i had a change in mind i recalled what my little brother said to me when I was crying my eyes out; He said "she's in heaven now". I went to her room that night and I remembered all the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. My Grandmother Was The Matriarch Of My Family My great–grandmother was the matriarch of my family. When I was in seventh grade, around thirteen years old, she passed away due to breast cancer. This misfortune created an extremely difficult time for me because, not only was I adjusting to the environment of junior high, but many other issues were occurring in my life; this was the third death that I was having to deal with. Unfortunately, one of the previous deaths (that I was still trying to hurdle through and come to terms with), had occurred almost exactly a year before the passing of my great–grandmother. The second death that I had gone through occurred only one or two months before my great–grandma has passed. All of this turmoil created numerous internal conflicts for me, but also taught me a key lesson to keep note of, for the rest of my life. My great–grandma was the life of the party and the flames in the fireplace. No matter what she did, she made it very clear that she was not the least bit "bland"; she always stood out from the crowd. She was extremely vivacious and always created a raucous; her voice could be heard from down the block. She painted her house walls mint green, had bright red–orange hair, danced as though no one was watching, and cared for any–and–everyone (no matter what her feelings toward the person were.) If an event was being held, it was already known that it was happening at her house. All parties and gatherings were held at her house. Her house is also where all the food could be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. A Speech About My Grandmother Family always come first to me, no matter what. Ever since I was little I remember going over to my grandmother's house every holiday with my parents. For me, it was a very special time because I didn't get to see my grandmother as often as I would have liked. When the holidays were coming up, I remember how excited I would get to go see her. There comes a time in your life when you start to run out of energies and are not as strong as you used to be. When we are young we look at our older loved ones and we never expect them to lose their strength. In our eyes they are similar to a super–hero in which they would never run out of strength. But as a natural aging process, it will come sooner or later. My grandmother was a strong, independent women. To this day I still admire that about her. When she started to lose her strength, little by little she needed help with things that weren't ever a problem for her, like cleaning around the home, cooking big meals for the family and taking care of herself and her hygiene. My father, along with my aunts and uncles, knew that she no longer would be able to be as independent. In order to prevent her from getting hurt or not being able to accomplish a task on her own, they knew it was best to move her into a nursing home. At that age, around 9, I wasn't sure what this meant or how it looked, or didn't even understand the point for it, she was my grandmother and in my eyes she was perfect and a strong women. • 17. My Life Of My Grandmother My Grandmother died a couple months ago. It wasn 't a sudden thing. It was a long time coming. I was standing in the kitchen with my dad when he picked up the phone. He frowned, flicked his eyes to me, to my mother then back to me. He mumbled some confirmations then said, "That 's fine. I'll be there shortly, thank you." He set the phone down on the table, and just briefly, I think I caught a fleeting glimpse of a smile. I had known she was sick. My dad had mentioned it briefly, as if it was just a small thing not really worth talking about. It was just like reporting the morning's news. But instead of, "Oh, the Reds lost again" it was, "Your grandmother is in the hospital. She isn 't doing too well." I'm not sure that he even looked up...show more content... I had expected long days of walking on eggshells, giving my father space and time to grieve. I had expected an excessive breakfast the morning after, with stacks of pancakes, orange juice, coffee. The works. I had expected my Father to be stuffing his face, smiling, pretending everything was all right, only to breakdown with syrup on his face and jam on his fingers. What I got was oatmeal, and a dad who looked well rested if not little distracted. I knew my dad and grandmother were not on speaking terms. That much was always known and not hidden from me. But I thought...I don't know. I thought there might have been something when she died. I just expected more, I guess. When he came home from the morgue or wherever he had to go to after the call, I was in the living room and looked over my shoulder when the front door creaked open. My mom came up and embraced him, he put his head on her shoulders and they just stood there, barely swaying in the foyer. I got up and walked over to them. My mom drew away, teary eyed, and my dad looked at me. "You're my proof, Cole." He said with a small quiver in his voice. "You're my proof that something good can come from my bloodline." He smiled and hugged me, longer than he ever has before. My mother joined in and then my dad called, "Eddie! Come down here!" My younger brother came from his room at the top of the stairs and frowned at our group, hugging at the bottom. "Come here, kid." My dad said in his sandy, old Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Describe My Grandmother I remember how happy it made my great grandma, Gigi, when we visited her. I remember how one day, my mom, dad, Grandma, my brother Holden and I were visiting her, and we thought would be nice if I sang a song for her. I sang her the song that they play during baseball games, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" because she always was a big baseball fan. I sang her the whole song, including all of the extended verses. When I finished, she was smiling, and that made me smile too. Whenever we went to my grandma Zeta's house in Sacramento, we tried to go and see her. We would talk with her, or take her on a walk. One time, my mom, my dad, Holden, my cousin Braylon, my grandma Zeta, and I took Gigi for a walk around where she lived. It was a sunny day. We walked past all of the tall, white buildings. The air was cool and fresh. Braylon and I were walking up ahead of everyone else, and Gigi kept calling out to us. "Don't go so close!" She would shout whenever we got to close to the edge of the sidewalk. However, there was lots of times when we would see pretty, vibrant flowers, or ducks quacking as they flying above us, and she would grin. When I was little, she would come over to my Grandma Zeta's house more. She would talk with everyone, or watch the kids play, and beam. Everyone was always really happy to see her. "We're here, you can unbuckle now," my dad told me and my brother. Today was May 21, 2012. It had been a long time since the time we took Gigi for that walk. • 19. Essay on My Grandmother My Grandmother This poem explores the relationship between the speaker and her grandmother. It focuses on the remorse and guilt she felt – and perhaps does still feel – about the way she behaved towards her on one occasion, and can be seen as an attempt to exorcise this. The poem is divided into four parts: the first stanza describes her grandmother working in the shop; the second the incident which causes her guilt; the third stanza shows her in retirement. In the final stanza, after her grandmother has died, the speaker reflects on herself and her grandmother's life. The first stanza sets the scene – the antique shop reflects the character and life of the grandmother. The words 'it kept her' suggest that it seems, to ...show more content... In fact, beneath the images of polish, silver and brass lies someone who can be 'hurt', who feels though never speaks about how she feels, and who comes to be 'frail'; the poem deals with the speaker's complex response to this realisation. The grandmother's life is bound up with the antiques even after she no longer keeps the shop. They accompany her to the 'long, narrow room' in which she essentially waits to die. This third stanza is full of unattractive images – shadows, the smell of absence, things too long shut up – yet the speaker still has to acknowledge that, to her grandmother, they represent 'all her best things'. This imagery sums up the lfe of a person who has been defined by her antiques – 'the smell of absences' suggests the memories that the grandmother attaches to these objects, but it also hints at an unfulfilled existence, while 'the shadows.../ That can't be polished' suggest the grandmother's loss of her habitual control as she nears death (a state itself often associated with shadow), and are a disturbingly vague image. In the poem's final image, 'the new dust falling through the air', Jennings economically suggests the grandmother's joining of the antiques she devoted her life to. But this image simultaneously reminds us of her absence from the room
