Orientation Leader Essay
Be sure your name appears at the top of each page. Answer all 6 questions
1. Why do you want to be an orientation leader?
–There are numerous reasons I would love to be an orientation leader at UTC. Orientation leaders represent their school and help instill school pride
in each new class of students. I want to be a part of this and welcome a diverse group of students to the community we have on UTC's campus. I
would also really enjoy getting to know and work with students from all different groups and backgrounds on campus.
2. Why do you believe orientation is important for new students?
–Orientation is the perfect time for new students to get acquainted with their new school, other students, and potential mentors. It is a time for students
to get excited about their next four years and decide what kind of experience they want to have at UTC. It is also extremely informative which is
important because it helps new students to feel more prepared and confident.
3. What are you involved in at UTC?
–I am involved with SGA and the Athletics Committee for theUniversity. I'm also part of the leadership for the Pre–Law club and the Christian Student
Center. I'm also an active member of the Brock's Scholar Program in the Honors...show more content...
I came from over four hours away to be a part of this campus that boasts such a beautiful setting and friendly community. However, our school spirit
is sometimes lacking in comparison to nearby schools, such as UT Knoxville. This is evident from attendance at sports games and how many people
are wearing our school colors around campus. I believe one way to improve this is to demonstrate our spirit by showing enthusiasm for UTC and its
various sports and activities, so that others will follow suit. I also believe communication is very important in getting students informed and excited
about the events we have going on and promoting them through events such as pep

What Makes a Leader? Essay
To me, leadership is more than a title. It is more than just being in charge. Leadership is honestly, learning, listening, and most importantly application.
Leadership means going the extra mile or two, doing the right thing no matter who's looking, staying encouraged and encouraging other even when
times are hard and you have every reason to quit. Leadership doesn't mean you're rich, well known, liked, or respected but it does mean you are a
passionate, caring, and authentic. Leadership means you care about something so much you are willing to risk everything you have for this belief or
idea. Leadership is doing whatever you can in your power to make things better for those around you.

You don't have to be sure of every single action but you can't fear the future or change because in order to accomplish your goal change is often
necessary. A bold attitude is a definite must. Leaders will always come against someone or something that opposes what they believe, boldness
will give them the strength to keep going even when the people they lead have start to disappear or they have grown weak. At the first that you are
ready to give up they will abandon ship as the leader it must be a part of your character to be bold and keep going no matter how hard things may
seem. This characteristics tie in with the earlier trait of inspiration. When other see how bold you are they will realize that just maybe if you're willing
to put this much on the line, face the probability of being ridiculed and disowned by your and the rest of society just maybe you stand for something
that is right and maybe they should too.
These characteristics are all great but to have the ability to truly lead you need conviction. Conviction to keep going you going when your boldness
has eliminated your friends, when your yourself needs inspiration, when you don't want to be genuine, when you want to give up and take the easy
way out. Conviction is that thing that keeps us going, it helps us stay true to our task no matter where you go or what you do. Our conviction are our
roots, they keep us grounded and prevent us from

What Is A Leader? Essay
What is a leader? When thinking about this question I feel like you have to really know what it means to be a leader. Webster Dictionary definition
is: a time when a person holds the position of a leader. No one is born a leader, leaderships skills comes from life experiences, education and
employment. Everyone grows into a leader and then afterwards grow into a leadership style that will eventually begin to shape and inspire other
leaders. Having a title or high above power does not make you a leader. Inspiring and providing great communication, confidence, advice, laughs,
knowledge, honesty and reality. Those great skills help you become a great leader. Even with these great leadership skills, there are many different
kinds of leadership styles.

Are you a participative leader? Participative leaders or better known as democratic leaders include team members and others, but making the final
decision is up to the participative leader. Participative leaders build confidence and knowledge within team members because their inputs matter within
decision making. It helps team members think their opinions, help with decisions. If there is a change that needs to be implemented a participative

Essay about How to become a better leader
I believe good leaders have the desire and willpower to become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self–study,
education, training, and experience. I think one of a leaders' main goals should be to inspire their workers into higher levels of teamwork, which can
be acquired through continual work and study. Good leaders should constantly be working and studying to improve their leadership skills. Leadership
is defined as a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more
cohesive and coherent. Leaders carry out this process by applying their leadership attributes, such as beliefs, values, ethics, character, knowledge, and

I also have a hard time saying no if someone is willing to take control and lead the group. Another weakness of mine is communication. I am always
very good at paying attention in class and, therefore, if I hear the teacher give requirements for a project, I just assume that everyone else is paying
equal attention. I need to make a more conscience effort to make sure that everyone is communicating with one another and is aware of what needs
to be accomplished. This ensures the team will be building a healthy relationship and working together. Lastly, I have to remember that everyone is
different and that we all don't approach tasks in the same way. I must use my sense of judgment to assess each person and determine what kind of
work load I honestly think they will complete effectively based on their schedule. If the work is not completed when it is supposed to be done, I
need to learn how to confront that person and ask them why it has not been done and make sure that they understand that this is going to put us
behind. I always want people to like me and this is the main reason that I have a hard to giving constructive criticism and approaching people. These
are a few areas that would be holding me back from being an effective leader.
This summer I was the team leader for my group internship presentation project for Enterprise. Our topic was to explain how the founding values of the

still give myself some free time so I don't get stressed out or overworked. I would also be prepared and ask for deadlines to make sure I do the
tasks on time. I may even make a routine for myself for example when I get home at around 4, I could change, eat and shower at a certain and then
spend a few hours on revising and homework, then spend some time on fulfilling my responsibilities as a student leader.

First and foremost, I see myself as the type of leader who is, committed to ensuring the success of the organization that I represent by, making sure

compassionate but firm. I believe that the bottom of organizational hierarchy is only as good as the top has made preparation for.

What Makes A Leader?
As John Quincy Adams said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." When
people think of a leader they might think of the president of the United States or, for sports, a quarterback. Everyone knows that a leader has to
know how to lead people to the goal, whether its being a successful businessman or winning the super bowl. However, people have different
opinions on what qualities a leader has to have. Some people say a leader needs to be determined; others say leaders need to be honest. There are many
people that are leaders in history and in our own lives. Leaders are not always a good person, there are also bad leaders. There are things that a leader

criticize you when you become a leader. Although people have different opinions on what a leader qualities a leader needs to have, they are all
right. I interviewed a few people and asked, "What qualities do you think a leader should have?" One person said a leader needs to be ambitious
and determined. The leader must want to make their company or team successful and be willing to do many things to succeed. Another person
said a leader needs to be honest and have integrity. A leader can not lie about what they did because it might have a negative affect on the
organization. I also quoted one of the people I interviewed, "A leader must be able to do what he is ordering other people to do." A leader must be
able to do what they guide other people because it helps with the experience. Lou Tzu once said, "To lead the people walk behind them." Leaders
must not only do what they think is right but also take advice from their own workers. They can also learn from how their workers work the best by
helping out around the company with the workers. All of these qualities can be part of being of a leader. A leader also needs to be a

Being a Good Leader Essay
Leadership is a term on which no one can develop a mutual consensus as it carries a different meaning for ach individual. Some people may
consider a person as their leader who is capable of taking them away from hardships, some people may consider the one as their leader who is quite
charismatic and can show them dreams of a bright future or some people may consider that man as a leader who can make them progress by
devising wise strategies for them etc. There is, somehow, something very common in all the perspectives that are the philosophy behind the
definition, which is related to choosing a best of the best person as their leader. Nobody wants to have a person as his leader who doesn't have

No one can get success without having the trust of people on his capabilities because without that he won't be able to gain enough confidence to
take desired actions without the fear of being rejected. Lastly, he must take some steps in order to prove him a leader and also to make him realize
his very own potential (Jim Murray). So, from the above definitions we may draw a difference between leaders and managers as leaders do have a
vision, goal and objective, which he tries to make effective and purposeful. On the contrary, the managers only have to maintain their efficiency on
day–to–day basis. In other words administration is the task of managers but innovation is the characteristic of leaders and there is a possibility of a
manager becoming a leader by setting high standards and goals for his people. It is not the task of this paper to present a difference between both
but it is important to present it only because of its being necessary to clear the concept of a leader. So, a good leader is a person who can look high
into the horizons when the people are looking down in the bottom line. This makes other people follow their footsteps as everyone wants to move
towards horizon to explore new dimensions of practicality. So, first and foremost quality of a leader is not only to see at high things but also make
the people see and strive for the same thing. For this purpose, they have to monitor even minor things by making people feel valued and inspired. A

My Opinion on What Makes a Leader Essay
Leadership Leadership is a role that a person will step up and take. Then again, not everyone can have leadership. In order to have leadership, you
must act in certain ways to acquire the goal of leadership. Leadership is more than just leading people to achieve certain goals. It's the way you
approach the person you are trying to lead. Moreover, many people these days don't think that having leadership is important, or they think having
leadership just means to lead people. Well, they are wrong. Leadership is much more than being a leader. You can't just decide one day that youwant to
have leadership. Youneed to give yourself time to have leadership. Leadership does not come in the blink of an eye. It takes time to attain...show more

A person that has leadership is always giving their best effort to anything they are doing. The leader always wants to be a good influence. A person
with leadership is someone that a kid or grownup can look up to and say, "I want to follow in his/her path and I want to do the things they do." If
anyone is watching you they are going to try their best because they see you are giving one hundred percent. Whether people realize it or not that
effort being put into what you are doing can really pay off. So the leader will show people that good work will pay off later in life. Now since you are
trying to be a good role model to the people, don't act inappropriately. Always pretend that someone is watching everything you do so always try your
very best.
Foremost, you will have an untroublesome temper if you have leadership. If one person does something wrong; you need to be able to control it in a
manageable way and not react without thinking. If someone's temper is condensed and the person screams at anyone that does something wrong
people won't like you. They won't respect you and they won't listen to you. Show the kids that you can keep your temper controllable, and be a good
role model. Set boundaries for the kids. Also, you need to be in control of situations. Don't, let situations get out of hand. You need to know when
enough is enough. As long as you show people that you aren't like that, respect will be shown. If people see that you can't say no

these beliefs manifest themselves in our lives, by stating, "What the mind harbors, the body manifests in some way" (p. 119). My beliefs about

What Leadership Means to Me Essay
My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader
must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able
to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in
their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire
and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of self–study, education, training, and

The way in which I communicate either builds or can harm the relationship between my soldier and I. When an important moment of discussion
arises, I am always prepared to appropriately handle the situation at hand. More than anything else, I believe as a leader it is always important to
have great social skills in order to be communicative with clarity and objectiveness, and to have a good relationship with the ones I lead. As a
leader, I understand the meaning of recognition and praise when one is doing a good job, which too is significantly important. A leader is not
always the first to have an idea, but should be the one who is always seeking out new solutions. One way of being a productive leader is
discovering new ways to accomplish a set of tasks while maintaining a positive attitude. If a soldier is demonstrating a bad attitude because he feels
that he can not accomplish a task then my job as a leader, would be to steadily encourage that soldier to work at being all that he can be. A leader to
me, does not need to always know the answer, but believes it to be important to have the initiative to make an answer appear. One form of bad
leadership would be an NCO performing or demonstrating a task that he knows nothing about in front of his soldiers. In the result of the NCO not
performing or demonstrating the task at hand correctly, the soldiers then become incapable of knowing the proper ways of that task. However, if that

There are many positions that high school students can occupy that are considered student leadership positions. They can be teachers' assistants,
football captains, cheerleading captains, or student body presidents. All of these require students to be of good character and strong mind. However,
none of these can compare to the demands on the drum major. The drum major is the student leader of the band, and he is, at the same time, a role
model, a teacher, a friend to all, an excellent musician, a performer, a liaison between the band and the director, the director's chief "gopher," and the

Preband is what we call the two weeks before school starts when the band practices four hours every morning in preparation for the season. In the
week prior to preband, I went to church camp in Panama City, Florida, and unfortunately, I broke my toe. I will not describe how I accomplished

Why Do People Become Leaders?
Why do people become leaders?
Leaders need followers, and followers need leaders. While leadership is sometimes viewed as elitist because of the power and importance often
ascribed to leaders (and the realities from different walks of life seem to confirm this– in the UK 75 per cent of senior judges, 59 per cent of the
Cabinet, 44 per cent of public body chairs, 38 per cent of members of the House of Lords attended Oxbridge – compared to less than 1 per cent of the
public as a whole ), in fact the leader–follower relationship are two sides of the same coin.

One way of looking at this is that at the heart of leadership lies narcissism (REF) – which Freud (1914/57) summarised as behaviours that range from
normal self–interest to a pathological self–absorption. Narcissism offers leaders the conviction about the righteousness of their cause, which in turn
inspires loyalty and group identification. Narcissism can either be constructive or reactive (REF): constructive or healthy narcissists tend to make well
balanced, introspective and empathetic leaders; on the other hand reactive or excessive narcissists are fixated on issues of power, prestige, status and
superiority.
Career progression
Often people become leaders as this is the next logical step in career progression and this is often about position, prestige and power (not to mention

another area and such.
I sincerely believe that I have characteristics of a good leader, although some of them could be different from the more conventional ones. For
example, I am a team player and care about the well being of others, I try my best to help everyone in their time of need, I am generally patient
about things, and I really celebrate success in a very enthusiastic way. I think that these qualities are good enough for me to be able to be some type of

However, I am human so I am not perfect and lack certain traits of a good leader. For instance, I often do not use language that is easy to understand
because I use many "big" words, I do not really give people second chances because I feel that one chance is all they need, and also I am not the best
person to communicate. Most of the time I try not to do these things, but these bad things still happen once in a while because I am frustrated or
aggravated at something. For the most part, I am a calm and reasonable person that helps people out.

2. Why are you interested in being a Peer Leader/Welcome Weekend Leader and why do you think you are qualified for the position?
I'm most interested in becoming a peer leader mainly because of my integration at Lynn. When I came to Lynn I came in for soccer and I didn't really
branch out much, but through the first forty and resident hall activities I really branched out to meet new friends. I want to be able to give incoming
freshman this same experience and allow them to enjoy their college experience with supportive friends by their side. I truly believe I'm qualified for
this position in many ways. I have a fun, bubbly, and energetic personality. I redshirted for two sports this year and I never let it bring me down, I
always brought positive vibes and joy everywhere I could. I've also always had a passion for people as well, I...show more content...
I think also as i work with students I'll be able to give insight into situations I'm dealing with to my other peer leaders allowing us overall to be a
stronger and more knowledgable group. No one of us is perfect so by grouping together and sharing our strengths were sure to impact each others lives.
7. How would you make a positive impact on the New Student Transitional experience?
I think I'd bring a positive impact simply by bringing the best version of myself. I really want to be able to give freshman a positive experience and
a positive transition into Lynn. I think just by bringing my honest self and all my past experiences will be a good building block for students to trust
me and want to confide in me. I think also with my knowledge from student ambassadors I know a lot about Lynn and I know a lot of the ins and outs
of Lynn.
8. How would you project positivity amongst your group on and off

Orientation Leader Essay

  • 1. Orientation Leader Essay Be sure your name appears at the top of each page. Answer all 6 questions 1. Why do you want to be an orientation leader? –There are numerous reasons I would love to be an orientation leader at UTC. Orientation leaders represent their school and help instill school pride in each new class of students. I want to be a part of this and welcome a diverse group of students to the community we have on UTC's campus. I would also really enjoy getting to know and work with students from all different groups and backgrounds on campus. 2. Why do you believe orientation is important for new students? –Orientation is the perfect time for new students to get acquainted with their new school, other students, and potential mentors. It is a time for students to get excited about their next four years and decide what kind of experience they want to have at UTC. It is also extremely informative which is important because it helps new students to feel more prepared and confident. 3. What are you involved in at UTC? –I am involved with SGA and the Athletics Committee for theUniversity. I'm also part of the leadership for the Pre–Law club and the Christian Student Center. I'm also an active member of the Brock's Scholar Program in the Honors...show more content... I came from over four hours away to be a part of this campus that boasts such a beautiful setting and friendly community. However, our school spirit is sometimes lacking in comparison to nearby schools, such as UT Knoxville. This is evident from attendance at sports games and how many people are wearing our school colors around campus. I believe one way to improve this is to demonstrate our spirit by showing enthusiasm for UTC and its various sports and activities, so that others will follow suit. I also believe communication is very important in getting students informed and excited about the events we have going on and promoting them through events such as pep Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. What Makes a Leader? Essay To me, leadership is more than a title. It is more than just being in charge. Leadership is honestly, learning, listening, and most importantly application. Leadership means going the extra mile or two, doing the right thing no matter who's looking, staying encouraged and encouraging other even when times are hard and you have every reason to quit. Leadership doesn't mean you're rich, well known, liked, or respected but it does mean you are a passionate, caring, and authentic. Leadership means you care about something so much you are willing to risk everything you have for this belief or idea. Leadership is doing whatever you can in your power to make things better for those around you. Although, that is the definition of leadership is...show more content... You don't have to be sure of every single action but you can't fear the future or change because in order to accomplish your goal change is often necessary. A bold attitude is a definite must. Leaders will always come against someone or something that opposes what they believe, boldness will give them the strength to keep going even when the people they lead have start to disappear or they have grown weak. At the first that you are ready to give up they will abandon ship as the leader it must be a part of your character to be bold and keep going no matter how hard things may seem. This characteristics tie in with the earlier trait of inspiration. When other see how bold you are they will realize that just maybe if you're willing to put this much on the line, face the probability of being ridiculed and disowned by your and the rest of society just maybe you stand for something that is right and maybe they should too. These characteristics are all great but to have the ability to truly lead you need conviction. Conviction to keep going you going when your boldness has eliminated your friends, when your yourself needs inspiration, when you don't want to be genuine, when you want to give up and take the easy way out. • 3. What Is A Leader? Essay What is a leader? When thinking about this question I feel like you have to really know what it means to be a leader. Webster Dictionary definition is: a time when a person holds the position of a leader. No one is born a leader, leaderships skills comes from life experiences, education and employment. Everyone grows into a leader and then afterwards grow into a leadership style that will eventually begin to shape and inspire other leaders. Having a title or high above power does not make you a leader. Inspiring and providing great communication, confidence, advice, laughs, knowledge, honesty and reality. Those great skills help you become a great leader. Even with these great leadership skills, there are many different kinds of leadership styles. "Becoming the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily; even if you had no title or position." –Brian Tracy Are you a participative leader? Participative leaders or better known as democratic leaders include team members and others, but making the final decision is up to the participative leader. Participative leaders build confidence and knowledge within team members because their inputs matter within decision making. It helps team members think their opinions, help with decisions. • 4. Essay about How to become a better leader I believe good leaders have the desire and willpower to become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self–study, education, training, and experience. I think one of a leaders' main goals should be to inspire their workers into higher levels of teamwork, which can be acquired through continual work and study. Good leaders should constantly be working and studying to improve their leadership skills. Leadership is defined as a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent. Leaders carry out this process by applying their leadership attributes, such as beliefs, values, ethics, character, knowledge, and ...show more content... I also have a hard time saying no if someone is willing to take control and lead the group. Another weakness of mine is communication. I am always very good at paying attention in class and, therefore, if I hear the teacher give requirements for a project, I just assume that everyone else is paying equal attention. I need to make a more conscience effort to make sure that everyone is communicating with one another and is aware of what needs to be accomplished. This ensures the team will be building a healthy relationship and working together. Lastly, I have to remember that everyone is different and that we all don't approach tasks in the same way. I must use my sense of judgment to assess each person and determine what kind of work load I honestly think they will complete effectively based on their schedule. If the work is not completed when it is supposed to be done, I need to learn how to confront that person and ask them why it has not been done and make sure that they understand that this is going to put us behind. I always want people to like me and this is the main reason that I have a hard to giving constructive criticism and approaching people. These are a few areas that would be holding me back from being an effective leader. This summer I was the team leader for my group internship presentation project for Enterprise. Our topic was to explain how the founding values of the company Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. What Makes A Leader? As John Quincy Adams said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." When people think of a leader they might think of the president of the United States or, for sports, a quarterback. Everyone knows that a leader has to know how to lead people to the goal, whether its being a successful businessman or winning the super bowl. However, people have different opinions on what qualities a leader has to have. Some people say a leader needs to be determined; others say leaders need to be honest. There are many people that are leaders in history and in our own lives. Leaders are not always a good person, there are also bad leaders. Even though they have different goals they have the some similar traits such as, responsibility and trustworthy. There are also people that criticize you when you become a leader. Although people have different opinions on what a leader qualities a leader needs to have, they are all right. I interviewed a few people and asked, "What qualities do you think a leader should have?" One person said a leader needs to be ambitious and determined. The leader must want to make their company or team successful and be willing to do many things to succeed. Another person said a leader needs to be honest and have integrity. A leader can not lie about what they did because it might have a negative affect on the organization. I also quoted one of the people I interviewed, "A leader must be able to do what he is ordering other people to do." A leader must be able to do what they guide other people because it helps with the experience. Lou Tzu once said, "To lead the people walk behind them." Leaders must not only do what they think is right but also take advice from their own workers. They can also learn from how their workers work the best by helping out around the company with the workers. All of these qualities can be part of being of a leader. • 9. Being a Good Leader Essay Leadership is a term on which no one can develop a mutual consensus as it carries a different meaning for ach individual. Some people may consider a person as their leader who is capable of taking them away from hardships, some people may consider the one as their leader who is quite charismatic and can show them dreams of a bright future or some people may consider that man as a leader who can make them progress by devising wise strategies for them etc. There is, somehow, something very common in all the perspectives that are the philosophy behind the definition, which is related to choosing a best of the best person as their leader. No one can get success without having the trust of people on his capabilities because without that he won't be able to gain enough confidence to take desired actions without the fear of being rejected. Lastly, he must take some steps in order to prove him a leader and also to make him realize his very own potential (Jim Murray). So, from the above definitions we may draw a difference between leaders and managers as leaders do have a vision, goal and objective, which he tries to make effective and purposeful. On the contrary, the managers only have to maintain their efficiency on day–to–day basis. In other words administration is the task of managers but innovation is the characteristic of leaders and there is a possibility of a manager becoming a leader by setting high standards and goals for his people. It is not the task of this paper to present a difference between both but it is important to present it only because of its being necessary to clear the concept of a leader. So, a good leader is a person who can look high into the horizons when the people are looking down in the bottom line. This makes other people follow their footsteps as everyone wants to move towards horizon to explore new dimensions of practicality. So, first and foremost quality of a leader is not only to see at high things but also make the people see and strive for the same thing. For this purpose, they have to monitor even minor things by making people feel valued and inspired. A good Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. My Opinion on What Makes a Leader Essay Leadership Leadership is a role that a person will step up and take. Then again, not everyone can have leadership. In order to have leadership, you must act in certain ways to acquire the goal of leadership. Leadership is more than just leading people to achieve certain goals. It's the way you approach the person you are trying to lead. Moreover, many people these days don't think that having leadership is important, or they think having leadership just means to lead people. Well, they are wrong. Leadership is much more than being a leader. You can't just decide one day that youwant to have leadership. Youneed to give yourself time to have leadership. Leadership does not come in the blink of an eye. It takes time to attain...show more content... A person that has leadership is always giving their best effort to anything they are doing. The leader always wants to be a good influence. A person with leadership is someone that a kid or grownup can look up to and say, "I want to follow in his/her path and I want to do the things they do." If anyone is watching you they are going to try their best because they see you are giving one hundred percent. Whether people realize it or not that effort being put into what you are doing can really pay off. So the leader will show people that good work will pay off later in life. Now since you are trying to be a good role model to the people, don't act inappropriately. Always pretend that someone is watching everything you do so always try your very best. Foremost, you will have an untroublesome temper if you have leadership. If one person does something wrong; you need to be able to control it in a manageable way and not react without thinking. If someone's temper is condensed and the person screams at anyone that does something wrong people won't like you. They won't respect you and they won't listen to you. Show the kids that you can keep your temper controllable, and be a good role model. Set boundaries for the kids. Also, you need to be in control of situations. Don't, let situations get out of hand. You need to know when enough is enough. As long as you show people that you aren't like that, respect will be shown. If people see that you can't say no Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This impact will be shaped by the actions, beliefs and values that I have gained through my various life experiences, especially those experiences from my family. I have had many people that have influenced me in positive ways: my parents, my hockey coaches at Loomis Chaffee and at Cushing Academy, and some of my teachers at Cushing Academy. He asks the reader to be cognizant of how these beliefs manifest themselves in our lives, by stating, "What the mind harbors, the body manifests in some way" (p. 119). My beliefs about leadership are shaped by my experiences with my father. I have compiled a list of good leadership qualities from watching him interact with others over the years. He is compassionate with them when they are down and celebrates with them when they are up. Positive Mental Attitude: He is a positive person. He keeps a smile on his face when things get tough, and sees the bright side of things. In addition, he seeks to find the positives in every negative situation, and tries to be philosophical. Open to Change: He is able to acknowledge that the only real constant in life is change. He knows there is a place for tradition, but there is also a place Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. What Leadership Means to Me Essay My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of self–study, education, training, and ...show more content... The way in which I communicate either builds or can harm the relationship between my soldier and I. When an important moment of discussion arises, I am always prepared to appropriately handle the situation at hand. More than anything else, I believe as a leader it is always important to have great social skills in order to be communicative with clarity and objectiveness, and to have a good relationship with the ones I lead. As a leader, I understand the meaning of recognition and praise when one is doing a good job, which too is significantly important. A leader is not always the first to have an idea, but should be the one who is always seeking out new solutions. One way of being a productive leader is discovering new ways to accomplish a set of tasks while maintaining a positive attitude. If a soldier is demonstrating a bad attitude because he feels that he can not accomplish a task then my job as a leader, would be to steadily encourage that soldier to work at being all that he can be. A leader to me, does not need to always know the answer, but believes it to be important to have the initiative to make an answer appear. One form of bad leadership would be an NCO performing or demonstrating a task that he knows nothing about in front of his soldiers. In the result of the NCO not performing or demonstrating the task at hand correctly, the soldiers then become incapable of knowing the proper ways of that task. However, if that NCO had Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 14. Student Leadership Essay There are many positions that high school students can occupy that are considered student leadership positions. They can be teachers' assistants, football captains, cheerleading captains, or student body presidents. All of these require students to be of good character and strong mind. However, none of these can compare to the demands on the drum major. The drum major is the student leader of the band, and he is, at the same time, a role model, a teacher, a friend to all, an excellent musician, a performer, a liaison between the band and the director, the director's chief "gopher," and the chief morale officer. The drum major leads the marching band in the halftime show and during rehearsals, but as the above list demonstrates, his...show more content... I had to conduct to a piece of my choosing, call out simple commands, and sing and conduct "The Star Spangled Banner." It was a nerve racking experience, but I did well, and I made it. I was ecstatic. I was the only junior that made it, along with two seniors. I went to Drum Major Academy that summer, which deserves two full pages of description. My comrades and I picked out our own uniform. I bought a whistle, gloves, and a handful of other things. I was ready to lead a group of two hundred of my peers, or so I thought. Preband is what we call the two weeks before school starts when the band practices four hours every morning in preparation for the season. In the week prior to preband, I went to church camp in Panama City, Florida, and unfortunately, I broke my toe. I will not describe how I accomplished that task as it is a source of much shame for me. I was very disappointed because my golden vision of what preband was going to be was tarnished, but I soldiered on, and made it limping through. I learned many things during those two weeks about perseverance. I didn't let my disability get in the way, and instead of feeling sorry for myself, I just did what I could to the best of my ability, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was when the school year started that the lessons really started coming. The lessons that I learned as a Drum Major are lessons that come only with experience in a leadership position. • 15. Why Do People Become Leaders? Why do people become leaders? Leaders need followers, and followers need leaders. While leadership is sometimes viewed as elitist because of the power and importance often ascribed to leaders (and the realities from different walks of life seem to confirm this– in the UK 75 per cent of senior judges, 59 per cent of the Cabinet, 44 per cent of public body chairs, 38 per cent of members of the House of Lords attended Oxbridge – compared to less than 1 per cent of the public as a whole ), in fact the leader–follower relationship are two sides of the same coin. One way of looking at this is that at the heart of leadership lies narcissism (REF) – which Freud (1914/57) summarised as behaviours that range from normal self–interest to a pathological self–absorption. Narcissism offers leaders the conviction about the righteousness of their cause, which in turn inspires loyalty and group identification. Narcissism can either be constructive or reactive (REF): constructive or healthy narcissists tend to make well balanced, introspective and empathetic leaders; on the other hand reactive or excessive narcissists are fixated on issues of power, prestige, status and superiority. Career progression Often people become leaders as this is the next logical step in career progression and this is often about position, prestige and power (not to mention "pay"!). • 16. Essay about Characteristics of a Good Leader A good leader needs to have many particular characteristics. Some of these are obvious, such as that they care about what you are doing and always puts you before themselves. Also another trait of a good leader is that they always keep promises they make. Some of the subtle attributes of a good leader are that they do not hide behind bad news. Moreover, they are easy people to talk to and they have a good if not excellent sense of humor. In my opinion, the best leader would be one that enjoys being the leader, is anyways there when I need him or her, sets tangible milestones, always believes that I can do everything, is optimistic, gets everyone involved, wants everyone to be successful, and lastly is courageous and brave. I do not think that there is a single person out there in the world like what I stated above because someone could be good in one area, but lack in another area and such. I sincerely believe that I have characteristics of a good leader, although some of them could be different from the more conventional ones. For example, I am a team player and care about the well being of others, I try my best to help everyone in their time of need, I am generally patient about things, and I really celebrate success in a very enthusiastic way. I think that these qualities are good enough for me to be able to be some type of a good leader. However, I am human so I am not perfect and lack certain traits of a good leader. For instance, I often do not use language that is easy to understand because I use many "big" words, I do not really give people second chances because I feel that one chance is all they need, and also I am not the best person to communicate. Most of the time I try not to do these things, but these bad things still happen once in a while because I am frustrated or aggravated at something. For the most part, I am a calm and reasonable person that helps people out. Overall, I am a pretty good leader in some areas and like to help others in their time of need. However, I am only a good leader depending on the situation and that is the major thing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
