Physical Activity And Mental Health
The topic physical activity and mental health is an under researched and unknown topic compared to many other topics in the healthcare field
(Fox, 1999). Many factors play into the role of how well the body processes and functions. Physical activity can impact one 's body in a variety of
ways. Someone who exercises regularly can have an overall better mental health, relief of stress and anxiety, and a slimmer figure. For most people,
exercise or working out is not the first thing that comes to their mind when feeling stressed or anxious. Recent studies show, however, that maybe
people should be encouraged to exercise. Scientists are working to determine how much of exercise to prescribe to get an effect, but the general
saying is that a little exercise goes a long way. If people exercise for thirty minutes a day, they will relieve a good amount of general stress and
anxiety. Recently, scientists have also learned that exercise can also be a treatment for more serious conditions such as post–traumatic stress disorder
and depression. Unfortunately, researchers are unsure of how exercise reduces stress levels. One article on realhealth.org describes the research
scientists have found, "More than likely, the results stem from a combination of physiological and mental factors, says Steven Petruzzello, a professor
of kinesiology and director of the exercise psychophysiology at the University of Illinois, Urbana–Champaign". Researches have found that exercise
itself is a form

The Importance of Physical Activity Essay
The teaching profession plays a fundamental role in educating children. Some of which include physical activity Teachers engage in many roles in
student's learning, some of which are more challenging and important than others and all which contribute to a child's development. The process of
childhood development is dynamic, recognised by various fields including the influential society, inherited characteristics through genetics, and the
psychological behaviour of the child. These fields all play their own roles in directly affecting the process of child development. "A child's
developmental journey is guided by three factors which include nature, nurture and the child's own activity" McDevitt & Ormrod (2010, p. 4). Physical,

"Obesity is considered to be a global health epidemic by the world health organization (2000)" (McDevitt & Ormrod 2010, p. 169), explaining that
childhood obesity is an increasing problem in society and "being overweight increases a child's risk for a number of conditions, which include, asthma,
high–blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease" ("Health Risks of Overweight Children," 2010). Being physically active provides direct health
benefits to children and it is this reason that the importance of physical activity be delegated into the curriculum and that physical activity should be
made compulsory in all schools and is the teacher's job to enforce and uncover methods to prevent obesity.
Physical activities allow children to use their creativity while developing their mind, agility, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strengths. Physical
activity is important to healthy brain development and it is through physical activities that children engage and interact in the world around them,
therefore leading them positively in to middle childhood. "For children, physical activity enhances fitness, fosters growth and development, and helps
teach them about their world" (Elliot & Sanders, 2002).
Indication that declining levels of physical activity are contributing to obesity, adding the importance of targeted intervention

The Importance Of Physical Activity
The use of pedometers and tracking tools for physical activity has allowed me to measure my energy expenditure per day though tracking my steps,
calculating the duration of physical activity completed per week and analyzing the intensity and the type of activity I engage in. There are specific
guidelines set out for all age groups to attain the goal of the exercising while increasing the levels of intensity and decreasing sedentary behaviors'. This
reflection will outline tips and tricks to staying active and reducing sedentary activity. I will identify the facilitators and barriers to exercising through
the analyses of my physical activity log while highlighting the strengths and weakness of my physical activity habits. Exercise overtime will improve

Argumentative Essay On Physical Exercise
Engaging in physical exercise has many advantages and it benefits, not only to the physical health but as well as the mental health. Exercising
regularly helps to maintain a good health balance in the body, reducing stress and overcoming anxiety and depression in a person. It also activate the
chemicals in a person's brain to develop a better mood. This argumentative essay will demonstrate about how exercising helps and improve not only a
person's physical health but also mental health such as depression, anxiety and stress.
"Exercise" is a well known word among people all over the world. In fact it is popular among teenagers and adults that are trying to stay fit and
healthy. The use of the word "Exercise" is highly overrated because people tend to think that exercising keep them in shape and to lose weights.
However, what they do not realised is that exercising also improve one's mental health including depression, anxiety and stress that most people are
facing these days. Exercising promote better mood control. Research shows that exercise put long–term depression at ease (Weir, 2011). Based on the
evidences of an experiment, studies shows that James Blumenthal, PhD, a clinical psychologist has investigated, together with his colleagues upon
some adults with major depressive disorders (Weir, 2011). According to Weir (2011) Blumenthal conducted a mood
–exercise connection experiments
and found out that "Exercise seems not only important for treating depression, but also in preventing relapse". The release of chemicals such as
endorphins and serotonin from exercising increases the mood (Health Direct Australia, 2016). In the year 2006, Otto and his colleagues analysed 11
studies examining the effects of exercise on mental health. It was determined that exercising could be a strong influence for clinical depression (Clinical
Psychology: Science and Practice, 2006, as cited in Weir, 2011). From this, it is concluded that clinicians should think carefully about adding exercise
to the treatment plans for their depressed patients (Weir, 2011).
Smits (Co–director) and Otto (Co–writer) of Anxiety and Research and Treatment Program have reasoned that regular exercise help people who are

My Best Experience With Exercise In My Life
Your body is sore from physical exercises and you feel like giving up. Then you realize that having exercise in your life will help reach your
personal goals. Exercise can be a pain, but it is the good type of pain that motivates us to reach our goals. Currently, exercise has helped me to study
better for tests and to enjoy a fun sport with family. If I continue to have exercise in my life, I will have a healthy future.
My best experience with exercise was when I learned how to ride a two–wheel bicycle. I was 11 years old at the time and my father bought a new
bicycle for me. We went to a park and my father was giving me a little push to move forward. I almost fell and my nerves were kicking in. However, I

I still remember my whole body being sore from the first exercise routine. It showed me how much I needed to exercise my body or I will be in big
trouble when it comes to anything physical. I had to do pushups, sit ups, and so much more. When I went to the gym, I was given a personal
workout to complete. I will make my own exercise plan to implement in my studying hours at college. This gym class helped me to push my
hardest, even if I felt a lot of pain. I was able to overcome difficult workouts, like performing, squats, mountain climbers, and especially burpees.
Time management is a weakness that I still need to work on. I will be able to manage my time with studies and physical activities in college. At the
beginning of the year, my goals were to lose pounds, and improve on exercises that I did not like, such as running and pushups. I improved on my
running by running up a hill multiple times. I had more oxygen pumping throughout my body that enable me to run a farther distance.I lost some
pounds and my family is seeing the change. However, I still have to work on having a better diet. I tend to eat large portions that are not healthy for
me, like two plates of white rice. I will continue to lead a healthier lifestyle and hopefully my siblings do the

Physical Activity Essay
Introduction
Worldwide, we need to know also learn how physical activity has the potential to prevent health risks from young children. One of these health risks is
obesity, which affects Middle Childhood children from the ages of 6– 11years of age. Therefore, how has society prevented childhood obesity and what
strategies can be implemented to develop and promote awareness of physical activity amongst children? If young children are to be educated and
advised about the important benefits of physical activity and healthy lifestyle, including the involvement of family, health, school environments and
media and take into consideration what children are taught, then a large percentage of overweight children will decrease in numbers.

(The Role of Schools in Preventing Childhood Obesity – CDC ... (n.d.). Being obese are a problem, a comprehensive health promotion (World Health
Organization (2000)., this clearly states children who are obese are more likely to be overweight. (Poglitsch.M, (2008).
Over the development of primary childhood, youngsters typically take slow but steady gains in height and weight, their bodies grow larger without
altering the basic structures as a result, "...proportions of a separate body parts change less than in infancy or early childhood." (McDevitt &
Ormrod, 2010). Physical activities are required to keep children involved and physically active. Some activities do not necessarily have to be outside
to keep children physically active. There are also activities indoors that children could do with the folks which includes; dancing, exercising while
watching Tv and cleaning the house. These are just a few tools that parents can do with children at home. If children have no right activities during
this time of promotion weight, this could lead to obesity, because as children's power surge steadily every day, and no physical activity is present, then
children will lose interest in physical activity.
It is a must that more of physical activities should be done at schools as it will help both students and teachers when it comes to children's learning
however, – some schools are already supporting these programs, though some schools are not aware of this issue. Choosing

The Importance of Physical Activity Essay
Physical Activity is undeniably good for everyone, not only does it keep you fit and healthy but when started at a young age, it can set up good habits
for life. Sometimes however, people do not take care of their physical wellbeing, resulting in obesity and other eating disorders which can be
detrimental to their health.
Obesity is the condition of being seriously overweight. It is now considered a global health epidemic by the World Health Organization (2000)
(McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Physical activity is important to children in the middle childhood age group because a staggering amount of children
have become overweight in the last few decades and teachers play a role in preventing obesity by becoming a positive role model,...show more content...
It is because of this high level of cognitive function that physical activity and nutrition are extremely important (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). They
affect the child's physical wellbeing in terms of energy levels, growth and the ability to concentrate (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010).
As children grow they continue to need physical activity. One of the methods of exercise that is popular with children in the middle childhood age is
rough and tumble play or 'play fighting' (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Unfortunately, this sort of play is often discouraged by schools because of the
possibility that someone may become injured. (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Teachers must find the balance between protecting children from getting
hurt and allowing them to run and jump to release the copious amounts of energy that they have to burn (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010).
Another unfortunate hindrance to physical activity in schools is the notion that physical activity takes away from time that could be used for academic
studies. This is unjustified however, because children of this age group are unable to sit and concentrate for long periods of time without being able to
get up and move (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010).
Teachers can play a large role when it comes to addressing and preventing obesity. Because children spend such a large portion of their time with the
teacher, it is the teacher

Physical Activity Reflection Paper
Physical activity is movement that is voluntary, intentional, and directed toward achieving an identifiable goal. Due to the fact I am completely
uncoordinated and clumsy, I was grateful when I finished my last physical education class in high school. I was relieved that I would never be
required to work out ever again, but after seeing my sister become a spin instructor and my mother starting to become fit, I wanted to better myself as
well. Though I had the urge to also become fit, I was still too lazy to actually start working out. I did not start to work out until January of this year.
Reflecting on my twenty–one years of life I have done many different kinds of physical activities. There have been activities like: soccer, swimming,
dance sessions, hiking, and more. As a child physical activity was performed during "gym class." We did not know that physical activity included
things like playing tag, riding our bikes, and swimming in pools. We did not yet have the mindset that having fun and physical activity were two
separate entities with no relation to one another. Therefore, we had no issues with doing those activities. As we grow older, we have less and less
time to have fun because of school, work, and other responsibilities. During my senior year of high school, I had to walk from the closest bus stop
to my high school, every Friday to participate in my sports medicine class. The distance from the bus stop to my school was about a mile way.
Since I was walking so much I started to develop a plethora of pain in my legs. The athletic trainer at my school told me that the problem was my
iliotibial band or IT band. I went years without treating it because I thought the pain would eventually go away, but consequently that was not the
case. In the beginning of last semester, my leg pain increased immensely; it was to the point where I could not fall asleep without taking two Aleve's.
That was when I decided it was time to receive help. I went to physical therapy for four long months, and found out that my pain stemmed from not
only my IT band, but also my rectus femoris. We used electrical stimulation, cupping, and heat an ice techniques to help get rid of my pain. The
therapists also had me do

Every day, adults manage their work days, which include breaks. While at work, adults do many tasks, but typically do not focus on one task for a
three hour period without taking a break. By not providing breaks or recess, children are asked to focus for a longer period of time than most adults
do in a day. Everyone benefits from breaks in the day and these coffee or recess breaks allow people to return to a task more focused and with
improved concentration. Removing recess and unstructured physical activity time from the school day can have a serious impact on children's health
and well–being. Recess and time for physical activity is not only important to the overall health of children, it also provides an outlet that helps with
the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children. In addition, it is also common for recess to be taken away from students who
misbehave. Unfortunately, it is these types of students who benefit most from recess, the physical activity, and breaks that is provided away from
classroom instruction ("Yay For Recess"). Physical activity and recess for elementary school children should remain a part of the school day to
improve academic performance and decrease negative behavior.
Over the last ten years, the debate about the effect of recess and physical activity have frequently changed. In the past, recess and physical activity
were a standard part of the school day. Currently, only 18% of states require elementary schools to have daily

Physical Activities And Healthy Lifestyle
In today's society, it takes physical activity and nutritious eating to maintain a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle can begin as a young child and
continue to develop throughout adult life. Being involved in a sport is a way to keep up physical activity; so why not be in a sport that can ensure
positive health outcomes? There are many sports to become involved in, but one of the most rewarding is gymnastics. It is an easy way for children
to become fit and learn by adapting new mental and physical skills. Although there are some people that do not realize all the advantages that are
within the sport, gymnastics can increase a child's self–confidence, flexibility, coordination, and overall mental and physical health. These are elements
that will forever benefit a child's lifestyle.
Gymnastics is a healthy activity for the body because it contains physical and mental health. When being young and involved in gymnastics a healthy
life style is established, which includes eating well balanced meals and steady physical activity. Gymnastics is "Physical exercises designed to
develop and display strength, balance, and agility, especially those performed on or with specialized apparatus" (freedictionary.com). Depending on
how long a child stays in gymnastics can affect the amount of physical strength that can be developed. It takes some years to develop physical and
mental strength. It can be difficult to continue with this sport if there is a lack of mental health and

The Health Benefits of Exercise Essay
Exercise is one of the most important factors in a persons' life. Physical activity, or the lack of it, can result in a person having a healthy life or cause
them to have diabetes. The benefits of exercise are countless. The positive health results, the improvement in attitude, even better academic
performance are all factors which make not exercising inexcusable.
Merely not using a person's body is harmful. Not being active results in a person's muscles becoming weak and out of condition. The effectiveness of
a person's heart and lungs will decrease. A person's joints will become stiff and can be injured easily. Inactivity can be as much of a health risk as
smoking. In addition children have become extremely lazy with all the...show more content...
Adults should have around thirty to sixty minutes of physical activity four to six times a week. Two hours and thirty minutes is the minimum a fully
developed person needs to lessen the risk of having some type of chronic disease later in life ("Information").
Physical fitness has two main classifications–performance related and health related. People have different performance related requirements in
accordance with their occupation but all people have the same health related requirements (The World). Then there are two types of exercise that helps
tone a person's body while increasing its endurance. These are aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercise is exercise that uses the muscles and
bones. Cardio activities are a good example of this, such as running or biking. This type of exercise increases the strength of a person's heart and
boosts their lung capacity. Anaerobic exercise is an intense but short amount of exercise (Payment). Since it is only for a brief amount of time, it
does not require the amount of oxygen aerobic exercise does. Instead it uses glycogen which comes from the sugar in a person's blood. An example
of this exercise is weight lifting or sprinting. A person's requires both anaerobic and aerobic exercise for good health. Simply doing a cardio work out
is not healthy, and for a person to see real results there must be some activity like weight lifting ("Anaerobic").
By performing some type of physical activity each

Physical Activity Study
1.This study looked at four different topics including physical activity in adults, obesity in adults, obesity in children and adolescents, and lastly total
vegetable intake. The goal was to look at trends and see if over time these different study topics increased, and the demographics of them. The study
explained that in 2008, the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans was released and since then an increasing number of people have met these
recommendations.
2.The Physical Activity study tracked the proportion of adults who report meeting current Federal activity guidelines for aerobic and muscle

The study was based off the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, which states that a minimum of 2.5 hours of moderate–intensity exercise
per week or 1.25 hours of vigorous aerobic activities is encouraged for additional health benefits. The study looked at the rates of death of following
these guidelines and the impact of exercising more than the recommended time.
3.There were three significant findings in this study. First, engaging in one to two times the recommended minimum level of leisure–time physical
activity provided a 31 percent lower risk of death compared with those who did no leisure–time physical activity. Second, at three to five times the
recommended minimum level of leisure–time physical activity there was a 39 percent lower risk of death, compared to those who do no physical
activity. Last, at 10 or more times the recommended physical activity time, there was no additional mortality benefits.

Literature Review On Physical Activity
The purpose of this literature review is to summarize current research regarding physical activity and its effects on Alzheimer Disease (AD).
Alzheimer's is a disease that causes a decline in memory and cognitive abilities. It is estimated that the number of people living with Alzheimer's
will rise to 115.4 million people by 2050 (Cyarto et al., 2010). Much research is trying to find an end to Alzheimer Disease, but has resulted in no
cure as of yet. Alzheimer's impacts many people and exercise could potentially be a wonderful tool to help decrease symptoms and decrease rates. The
following literature review provides 10 study results and an overview of the affects exercise has on patients with Alzheimer's.
The first study by Cyarto et al. (2010) obtained 230 community participants who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease to participate in their
study. The participants were obtained through local physicians, memory clinics, specialists and advertising flyers. These participants were randomly
assigned to a moderate physical activity group or a sedentary group. The study was 24 weeks long and included questionnaires to help document the
results. Results determined that the non–exercise group had higher scores on the Alzheimer disease Assessment scale, which indicates decreased
cognitive function. A study done by Morris et al. (2017) also obtained participants through public advertisements, community talks, physicians and
various databases. Unlike the previous study, this

The Benefits of Physical Activity Essay
Studies have shown that one who is physically active has higher chances of living longer. Del Sanden writes in his article on Exercise Statistics,
"People who engage in physical for 7 hours per week have a 40 percent lower chance of dying early than people who are active for less than 30
minutes a week." This statement is one of the many statements in his article proving the importance of fitness; it has the ability to enhance quality of
life. Regular exercise can lower the risk of many diseases, improve the function of the physical body, as well as psychological health.

Another disease that is commonly found in the US, but can be prevented by physical activity is Diabetes. Diabetes is a disease when the body does
not produce enough insulin making sugar levels very high. However, when muscles are in action they can take the sugar/glucose from the blood
without the help of insulin. The amount of physical activity necessary for prevention is minimum and does not take up much time. "Research suggests
that 2 1/2 hours per week of even leisurely physical activity–like brisk walking–is enough to significantly improve glucose tolerance." By going
walking instead of sitting by a television screen, one can prevent a disease like diabetes which requires constant medication. Decisions like taking steps
instead of elevator can make a huge difference to one's health.
Besides for the aforementioned, being active strengthens the body, making it more reliable. Activity works the bones and muscles, making them able to
handle more. Bones are living tissue. "Weight–bearing physical activity causes new bone tissue to form, and this makes bones stronger. This kind of
physical activity also makes muscles stronger. Bones and muscles both become stronger when muscles push and tug against bones during physical
activity." This build up enables the body to carry it's own weight, making standing on the feet an effortless activity. Stronger bones helps for better

Reflection Paper On Exercise
For the past 3 weeks, I have been working on improving my physical fitness by exercising at least 4 days a week, for 1 hour each time.
Incorporating exercise regimen in my daily life has always been something that I wanted to do since I begin my life as a student here at UNC. It's
has never been easy. Since I was a kid, I never had that natural thin, skinny physique. Everyone who saw me always said that, I will never be skin,
my body showed signs of growing into a woman with a thick figure. I knew that It will take time and dedication for me to keep myself at a stable
weight in order to stay healthy, and prevent any health complications in the future. When I lived in Africa, we had no car, so we walked
everywhere we needed to go, which kept me in shape. Once we moved to the United states, I played soccer in high school, and walked home from
school. But even though I walk on campus here in college, because I don't have a car, I realized that the amount of walks that I walk, is not enough
compared to the amount of time I spend seating down in class. Over the years, I have gained so much weight. I always talk about working out toward
getting skinnier and healthier, so that I can feel less tired, and feel better about myself, but starting the workout regimen and getting to the gym is
entirely another thing. Being in school all day, then going home, it's hard for me to get out of the house to go to the gym, instead, I will end up staying
in, and working on school work instead.

Cause And Effect Of Physical Exercise
Physical exercise is a bodily activity that increases and maintains physical fitness. It is accomplished for countless reasons. This involves strengthening
muscles and the cardiovascular system, sharpening athletic skills, weight loss and for enjoyment. Regular exercise enhances the immune system, and
helps prevent different diseases such as heart disease, cardiovascular disease, type two diabetes and obesity (Vina 2). Child obesity is an increasing
worldwide circumstance concern and physical exercise may help regress the effect of childhood obesity and adult obesity in endless countries (Goto 2).
Furthermore, exercise improves mental health, helps avert depression and helps to subsidize or strengthen positive self–esteem. The number one effect
of lack of exercise is high blood pressure, this is the number one form of heart disease (Goto 1). The cause of this is from consuming a high–fat diet.
Exercise helps reduce blood pressure by attacking the arteries. For most adults, there is not a common case of high blood pressure. Some people
have high blood pressure that is caused by a veiled condition. It increases as people age, through early middle age high blood pressure is preferably
common in men. People who are inactive tend to have a higher heart rate. The higher the heart rate, the harder the heart must function to pump blood
through the body. By frequently exercising you reduce the risk of having high blood pressure. If you do not exercise you will develop type two

Physical Activity And Mental Health

  • 1. Physical Activity And Mental Health The topic physical activity and mental health is an under researched and unknown topic compared to many other topics in the healthcare field (Fox, 1999). Many factors play into the role of how well the body processes and functions. Physical activity can impact one 's body in a variety of ways. Someone who exercises regularly can have an overall better mental health, relief of stress and anxiety, and a slimmer figure. For most people, exercise or working out is not the first thing that comes to their mind when feeling stressed or anxious. Recent studies show, however, that maybe people should be encouraged to exercise. Scientists are working to determine how much of exercise to prescribe to get an effect, but the general saying is that a little exercise goes a long way. If people exercise for thirty minutes a day, they will relieve a good amount of general stress and anxiety. Recently, scientists have also learned that exercise can also be a treatment for more serious conditions such as post–traumatic stress disorder and depression. Unfortunately, researchers are unsure of how exercise reduces stress levels. One article on realhealth.org describes the research scientists have found, "More than likely, the results stem from a combination of physiological and mental factors, says Steven Petruzzello, a professor of kinesiology and director of the exercise psychophysiology at the University of Illinois, Urbana–Champaign". Researches have found that exercise itself is a form Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Importance of Physical Activity Essay The teaching profession plays a fundamental role in educating children. Some of which include physical activity Teachers engage in many roles in student's learning, some of which are more challenging and important than others and all which contribute to a child's development. The process of childhood development is dynamic, recognised by various fields including the influential society, inherited characteristics through genetics, and the psychological behaviour of the child. These fields all play their own roles in directly affecting the process of child development. "A child's developmental journey is guided by three factors which include nature, nurture and the child's own activity" McDevitt & Ormrod (2010, p. 4). Physical, cognitive...show more content... "Obesity is considered to be a global health epidemic by the world health organization (2000)" (McDevitt & Ormrod 2010, p. 169), explaining that childhood obesity is an increasing problem in society and "being overweight increases a child's risk for a number of conditions, which include, asthma, high–blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease" ("Health Risks of Overweight Children," 2010). Being physically active provides direct health benefits to children and it is this reason that the importance of physical activity be delegated into the curriculum and that physical activity should be made compulsory in all schools and is the teacher's job to enforce and uncover methods to prevent obesity. Physical activities allow children to use their creativity while developing their mind, agility, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strengths. Physical activity is important to healthy brain development and it is through physical activities that children engage and interact in the world around them, therefore leading them positively in to middle childhood. "For children, physical activity enhances fitness, fosters growth and development, and helps teach them about their world" (Elliot & Sanders, 2002). Indication that declining levels of physical activity are contributing to obesity, adding the importance of targeted intervention Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. The Importance Of Physical Activity The use of pedometers and tracking tools for physical activity has allowed me to measure my energy expenditure per day though tracking my steps, calculating the duration of physical activity completed per week and analyzing the intensity and the type of activity I engage in. There are specific guidelines set out for all age groups to attain the goal of the exercising while increasing the levels of intensity and decreasing sedentary behaviors'. This reflection will outline tips and tricks to staying active and reducing sedentary activity. I will identify the facilitators and barriers to exercising through the analyses of my physical activity log while highlighting the strengths and weakness of my physical activity habits. Exercise overtime will improve current fitness; it will increase Cardio respiratory fitness and muscular fitness, decrease the risks associated to chronic disease and improve mental health.1 Being a student, I am aware of the commitment to completing my school work and attending all of my classes in the University. Unfortunately, this result to more sedentary activity then I would like. I attend three classes a day that vary in length, but accumulates to five hours a day of sitting, this does not include the time spent studying and completing assignments. I spend an average of a minimum of three to six hours per day studying aside from going to class, this contributes to eight to eleven hours per day of sedentary activity. The average time adults spend in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Argumentative Essay On Physical Exercise Engaging in physical exercise has many advantages and it benefits, not only to the physical health but as well as the mental health. Exercising regularly helps to maintain a good health balance in the body, reducing stress and overcoming anxiety and depression in a person. It also activate the chemicals in a person's brain to develop a better mood. This argumentative essay will demonstrate about how exercising helps and improve not only a person's physical health but also mental health such as depression, anxiety and stress. "Exercise" is a well known word among people all over the world. In fact it is popular among teenagers and adults that are trying to stay fit and healthy. The use of the word "Exercise" is highly overrated because people tend to think that exercising keep them in shape and to lose weights. However, what they do not realised is that exercising also improve one's mental health including depression, anxiety and stress that most people are facing these days. Exercising promote better mood control. Research shows that exercise put long–term depression at ease (Weir, 2011). Based on the evidences of an experiment, studies shows that James Blumenthal, PhD, a clinical psychologist has investigated, together with his colleagues upon some adults with major depressive disorders (Weir, 2011). According to Weir (2011) Blumenthal conducted a mood –exercise connection experiments and found out that "Exercise seems not only important for treating depression, but also in preventing relapse". The release of chemicals such as endorphins and serotonin from exercising increases the mood (Health Direct Australia, 2016). In the year 2006, Otto and his colleagues analysed 11 studies examining the effects of exercise on mental health. It was determined that exercising could be a strong influence for clinical depression (Clinical Psychology: Science and Practice, 2006, as cited in Weir, 2011). From this, it is concluded that clinicians should think carefully about adding exercise to the treatment plans for their depressed patients (Weir, 2011). Smits (Co–director) and Otto (Co–writer) of Anxiety and Research and Treatment Program have reasoned that regular exercise help people who are exposed to anxiety Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Best Experience With Exercise In My Life Your body is sore from physical exercises and you feel like giving up. Then you realize that having exercise in your life will help reach your personal goals. Exercise can be a pain, but it is the good type of pain that motivates us to reach our goals. Currently, exercise has helped me to study better for tests and to enjoy a fun sport with family. If I continue to have exercise in my life, I will have a healthy future. My best experience with exercise was when I learned how to ride a two–wheel bicycle. I was 11 years old at the time and my father bought a new bicycle for me. We went to a park and my father was giving me a little push to move forward. I almost fell and my nerves were kicking in. However, I saw my father ride his bicycle with...show more content... I still remember my whole body being sore from the first exercise routine. It showed me how much I needed to exercise my body or I will be in big trouble when it comes to anything physical. I had to do pushups, sit ups, and so much more. When I went to the gym, I was given a personal workout to complete. I will make my own exercise plan to implement in my studying hours at college. This gym class helped me to push my hardest, even if I felt a lot of pain. I was able to overcome difficult workouts, like performing, squats, mountain climbers, and especially burpees. Time management is a weakness that I still need to work on. I will be able to manage my time with studies and physical activities in college. At the beginning of the year, my goals were to lose pounds, and improve on exercises that I did not like, such as running and pushups. I improved on my running by running up a hill multiple times. I had more oxygen pumping throughout my body that enable me to run a farther distance.I lost some pounds and my family is seeing the change. However, I still have to work on having a better diet. I tend to eat large portions that are not healthy for me, like two plates of white rice. I will continue to lead a healthier lifestyle and hopefully my siblings do the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Physical Activity Essay Introduction Worldwide, we need to know also learn how physical activity has the potential to prevent health risks from young children. One of these health risks is obesity, which affects Middle Childhood children from the ages of 6– 11years of age. Therefore, how has society prevented childhood obesity and what strategies can be implemented to develop and promote awareness of physical activity amongst children? If young children are to be educated and advised about the important benefits of physical activity and healthy lifestyle, including the involvement of family, health, school environments and media and take into consideration what children are taught, then a large percentage of overweight children will decrease in numbers. To...show more content... (The Role of Schools in Preventing Childhood Obesity – CDC ... (n.d.). Being obese are a problem, a comprehensive health promotion (World Health Organization (2000)., this clearly states children who are obese are more likely to be overweight. (Poglitsch.M, (2008). Over the development of primary childhood, youngsters typically take slow but steady gains in height and weight, their bodies grow larger without altering the basic structures as a result, "...proportions of a separate body parts change less than in infancy or early childhood." (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Physical activities are required to keep children involved and physically active. Some activities do not necessarily have to be outside to keep children physically active. There are also activities indoors that children could do with the folks which includes; dancing, exercising while watching Tv and cleaning the house. These are just a few tools that parents can do with children at home. If children have no right activities during this time of promotion weight, this could lead to obesity, because as children's power surge steadily every day, and no physical activity is present, then children will lose interest in physical activity. It is a must that more of physical activities should be done at schools as it will help both students and teachers when it comes to children's learning however, – some schools are already supporting these programs, though some schools are not aware of this issue. • 7. The Importance of Physical Activity Essay Physical Activity is undeniably good for everyone, not only does it keep you fit and healthy but when started at a young age, it can set up good habits for life. Sometimes however, people do not take care of their physical wellbeing, resulting in obesity and other eating disorders which can be detrimental to their health. Obesity is the condition of being seriously overweight. It is now considered a global health epidemic by the World Health Organization (2000) (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Physical activity is important to children in the middle childhood age group because a staggering amount of children have become overweight in the last few decades and teachers play a role in preventing obesity by becoming a positive role model,...show more content... It is because of this high level of cognitive function that physical activity and nutrition are extremely important (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). They affect the child's physical wellbeing in terms of energy levels, growth and the ability to concentrate (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). As children grow they continue to need physical activity. One of the methods of exercise that is popular with children in the middle childhood age is rough and tumble play or 'play fighting' (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Unfortunately, this sort of play is often discouraged by schools because of the possibility that someone may become injured. (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Teachers must find the balance between protecting children from getting hurt and allowing them to run and jump to release the copious amounts of energy that they have to burn (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Another unfortunate hindrance to physical activity in schools is the notion that physical activity takes away from time that could be used for academic studies. This is unjustified however, because children of this age group are unable to sit and concentrate for long periods of time without being able to get up and move (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Teachers can play a large role when it comes to addressing and preventing obesity. Because children spend such a large portion of their time with the teacher, it is the teacher Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Physical Activity Reflection Paper Physical activity is movement that is voluntary, intentional, and directed toward achieving an identifiable goal. Due to the fact I am completely uncoordinated and clumsy, I was grateful when I finished my last physical education class in high school. I was relieved that I would never be required to work out ever again, but after seeing my sister become a spin instructor and my mother starting to become fit, I wanted to better myself as well. Though I had the urge to also become fit, I was still too lazy to actually start working out. I did not start to work out until January of this year. Reflecting on my twenty–one years of life I have done many different kinds of physical activities. There have been activities like: soccer, swimming, dance sessions, hiking, and more. As a child physical activity was performed during "gym class." We did not know that physical activity included things like playing tag, riding our bikes, and swimming in pools. We did not yet have the mindset that having fun and physical activity were two separate entities with no relation to one another. Therefore, we had no issues with doing those activities. As we grow older, we have less and less time to have fun because of school, work, and other responsibilities. During my senior year of high school, I had to walk from the closest bus stop to my high school, every Friday to participate in my sports medicine class. The distance from the bus stop to my school was about a mile way. Since I was walking so much I started to develop a plethora of pain in my legs. The athletic trainer at my school told me that the problem was my iliotibial band or IT band. I went years without treating it because I thought the pain would eventually go away, but consequently that was not the case. In the beginning of last semester, my leg pain increased immensely; it was to the point where I could not fall asleep without taking two Aleve's. That was when I decided it was time to receive help. I went to physical therapy for four long months, and found out that my pain stemmed from not only my IT band, but also my rectus femoris. By not providing breaks or recess, children are asked to focus for a longer period of time than most adults do in a day. Everyone benefits from breaks in the day and these coffee or recess breaks allow people to return to a task more focused and with improved concentration. • 19. Reflection Paper On Exercise For the past 3 weeks, I have been working on improving my physical fitness by exercising at least 4 days a week, for 1 hour each time. Incorporating exercise regimen in my daily life has always been something that I wanted to do since I begin my life as a student here at UNC. It's has never been easy. Since I was a kid, I never had that natural thin, skinny physique. Everyone who saw me always said that, I will never be skin, my body showed signs of growing into a woman with a thick figure. I knew that It will take time and dedication for me to keep myself at a stable weight in order to stay healthy, and prevent any health complications in the future. When I lived in Africa, we had no car, so we walked everywhere we needed to go, which kept me in shape. Once we moved to the United states, I played soccer in high school, and walked home from school. But even though I walk on campus here in college, because I don't have a car, I realized that the amount of walks that I walk, is not enough compared to the amount of time I spend seating down in class. Over the years, I have gained so much weight. I always talk about working out toward getting skinnier and healthier, so that I can feel less tired, and feel better about myself, but starting the workout regimen and getting to the gym is entirely another thing. Being in school all day, then going home, it's hard for me to get out of the house to go to the gym, instead, I will end up staying in, and working on school work instead.
