Inflation And Unemployment Essay
Historically, the relationship between inflation and unemployment has been studied, debated, and been used as economic indicators to explain the
overall health of the economy. Both inflation and unemployment will fluctuate and change based on phases of the business cycle. From a simplistic
view, high levels of inflation and unemployment indicate that the economy is not operating at is an optimal level of output. During periods where
inflation and unemployment are high, individuals are saving more and businesses are operating at excess capacity. The key is to understand and study
this relationship to better understand its overall effect on the economy and how to control levels of inflations and keep unemployment low.

With these slower growth rates, businesses were operating at excess capacity which increased levels of unemployment and rising inflation. During the
mid–1970's unemployment rates soared to approximately 11 percent & inflation rates spiked to approximately 12 (Cashell & Labonte, 4).
This gave rise to the natural rate hypothesis which explained that unemployment could be more simply viewed under the supply and demand instances.
The natural rate was formulated around the idea that as the unemployment rate decreased there was a need to increase wages to combat the increase in
prices. Increasing real wages would keep unemployment low and stabilize inflation rates in the long–run. Fluctuations in the unemployment rate can be
influenced by many different factors. The demand for employees can vary based changes in technology, population, shifts, and skills need in
manufacturing and service industries, and overall growth of the economy (Cashell, 13). Critics of the natural rate believe unemployment cannot be so
easily explained by supply and demand. During the mid–1990's unemployment fell below 4% below the estimated natural rate and economist believed
that a spike in inflation would follow, however, this did not occur. During this time period inflation rate's decreased. Many believed that the reason for
both low unemployment and inflation was due to a surging economy leading to high levels of productivity and output while keeping

Unemployment Definition of Unemployment
The unemployment rate is the percentage of the US labor force that is unemployed. It is calculated by dividing the number of unemployed individuals
by the sum of the number of people unemployed and employed. An individual is counted as unemployed if they are over the age of 16 and actively
looking for a job, but cannot find one. Students, who choose not to work, and retirees, are not counted in the unemployment rate.
In March 2001:
Description
Total civilian population 211,171,000(Excluding those under 16, members of the military, andpersons in institutions)

The growth in the labor force depends upon the growth of the working age population and increases in the percentage of that group willing to work.
Projections are that the size of the group will continue to grow slightly more than one percent a year and that the percentage working will not increase
significantly. Under those conditions, the sustainable monthly growth in jobs is about 155,000. The last three months of 2000 have shown growth in
the labor force that is less than that sustainable growth rate.
Newspapers and magazines are writing about the slowing growth in the U.S. economy. References are pointing to the slowing growth in spending
which is resulting in cutbacks in production and in some cases employment. The result of that slowing growth is this month's increase in the
unemployment rate and decrease in employment.
In May of 1999, the Federal Reserve began a policy of slowing the rate of growth in the money supply and creating increases in short–term interest
rates. That policy lasted through November of 2000. The goal was to slow the rate of growth in spending in the economy to be more in line with the
growth in capacity. That policy has surely had an affect and evidence of that are beginning to appear in a slower growth in real gross domestic
products (GDP) in the last quarter of 2000, a rise in unemployment from October through February, and the slowing increase in the number of jobs.

Argument Essay On Unemployment
Joseph Thompson Professor Nelson English 101 30 November 2017 Unemployment Unemployment is something every nation deals with, some
remedy their issue while in other countries such as the U.S. it seems to be a more commonly reoccurring issue or even epidemic at points. This makes
it clear the biggest problem facing the U.S. is the unemployment. A major point raised in favor of this argument is how unemployment seems to never
go away in the U.S.; we attempt to put these temporary Band–Aids on the issue so we can "save our economy" but in fact, it's only procrastinating the
problem and leaving it to snowball and affect future generations such as ourselves and our next of kin. The current unemployment rate is also
providing false hope to U.S. citizens, making it look as if we are in a good economic standing when you reveal the full story you see the poverty line is
rising and the debt clock is skyrocketing like never before. Another major flaw with the unemployment rate that most citizens don't see is how the
unemployment rate forgives to account for many factors and adjustments such as labor participation rate and the demographic adjustments that leave
the unemployment rate 2–7% higher than as stated currently. Many people do make the argument that with unemployment being at an all–time low, it
should be of low priority in society. However like stated previously, the fix put in to lower our unemployment rate is only temporary, as it is every
time. Barack Obama himself spoke

Essay on The Problem of Youth Unemployment
Work is central to most of our lives, that enables us to get by in the world, but also the key to how we define ourselves and to our sense of self–worth.
In the UK the unemployment rate stands at 6.9% now and from the figures 19.1% are between ages 16–24. Almost one in five young people unable to
find a job. Youth employment has become a long–term problem in the UK, with over a quarter of million young people have been looking for work for
a year or more (Mirza–Davies 2014). And increase of youth unemployment slow down the speed of UK economic recovery, although the financial

The unemployment among the youth is commonly associated with various problems like high crime rate among the youth and riots. The youths have
remained unemployed because of various social challenges that face the youths. These include laziness among the youth which makes them not to
desire to search for employment hence, they remain unemployed for long durations because of such social elements. These two fundamental outcomes
of unemployment could result in the social breakdown when they reach unmanageable levels. Joblessness remains the fundamental cause of the social
evils commonly associated with high unemployment levels. These social problems cannot be predicted when they will occur, but they certainly will
occur when the unemployment becomes uncontrollable. The youth unemployment can be defined as a time bomb waiting to explode. These imminent
problems associated with unemployment present a significant challenge to many governments in seeking to provide solutions to the problem of
unemployment. The fundamental approach utilised by many governments remains the creation of jobs within the informal sector. Other than the
creation of jobs that ensure the individuals become directly absorbed into the labour market, other approaches are also utilised by different governments
around the world. Educational training provides the

Options: Creating and enhancing a work placement program in every state will allow discouraged and marginalized workers a resource for finding
employment that matches their skill set. This will allow the employee to be situated in a position where they can optimize their skill level, thus
optimizing production, and giving the employee bargaining power, which can be used to receive benefits and a wage level that best suits their skill level

Currently, the site has a lot of resources for users, however, if someone doesn't have access to broadband, they may be unable to access these
resources. Therefore, there needs to be more outreach to marginalized workers.
Recommendation: My recommendation is to provide funding to expand the work placement program in the state of Wisconsin. The program will be
aimed at providing resources for those that are marginalized in the job search by offering services such as professional development and work search
assistance (Job Center). The program will also work to better match employees to their optimal job by identifying and matching their skill sets. This
program will continue to be state run and regulated (Job Center). Expansion of the program will also mean more community outreach, especially to
more rural areas that may be short on resources such as broadband connection and information technology. Major urban areas that have a large amount
of structurally unemployed individuals also need attention in providing a connection between employee and employer. Some of the funding for the
program's expansion can come from cuts to unemployment benefits that are likely too high to encourage individuals to seek new employment. To make
this idea more appealing to you colleague, Senator Fitzgerald, you can suggest that some of the marginalized and discouraged

Unemployment has become a major problem which affects our life, health, economy and community. So countries should build more companies and

unemployment insurance to help unemployed individuals in their financial problems till they find a job. It is important also to utilize the vocational

Unemployment In Canada Essay
Canada shed jobs in January as the unemployment rate in oil–rich Alberta hit its highest level in almost 20 years. Canada lost a net 5,700 jobs in the
first month of 2016, and the national unemployment rate increased to 7.2% from 7.1%. Unemployment is one of the major concerns of
macroeconomics. It means that a person who is 16 years old or above that unemployed, but is available for work, and has made specific efforts to find
a job during the previous four weeks.
Unemployment is divided into three types which are frictional unemployment, structural unemployment and cyclical unemployment. Firstly, frictional
unemployment is the portion of unemployment due to the normal working of labor market, such as skill matching problems. Secondly, structural
unemployment is the portion of unemployment that is due to changes in structure of economy likes technological advances will cause higher

What Is Unemployment Essay
Introduction What Is Unemployment? Unemployment occurs when a person who is actively searching for employment ( a job) is unable to find
work. Unemployment is often used as a measure of the health of the economy. The most frequently cited measure of unemployment is the
unemployment rate. This is the number of unemployed persons divided by the number of people in the labor force. Unemployment is defined as
when a person is not employed, does not have a job and is actively seeking work, or the inability of Labor Force participants to find jobs.
Unemployment is a serious macroeconomic issue that affects almost all countries and all people either directly or indirectly. Unemployment is a

Why Unemployment Is Important?
5.8 percent is the current unemployment rate for the month of October in 2014 in the United States. Why talking about unemployment is important?
Well, information about unemployment and other market forces will be very helpful to the reader when the time of talking and explaining how the
neoclassical economics, market forces operating in the labor market, assure that the economy will not suffer from prolonged bouts or periods of
high unemployment occurs. Economists define unemployment as: a person who is willing to work at the current wage being paid for people with
his/her skills and experience, but is not employed. The key word in the definition for unemployment is "willing" to work because a person who
chooses not to work is not considered unemployed. And it is no included in the labor force neither. The labor force only includes employed and
unemployed people. This paper will mention the market forces in the labor market that assure that the economy will not suffer from a long period of
high unemployment according to the neoclassical school of thought, also the criticism made by Keynesian of the neoclassical position, as well as why
a market economy can find itself in a state of prolonged levels of high unemployment that market forces cannot cure, according to the school of
Keynesian economics.
One very important quality of economics is that it is constantly developing new ideas by new people. There is no a right or wrong theory but more

Causes Of Unemployment Essay
Unemployment is one the major economic problems which are affecting most of the countries in the world especially the developing countries.
Unemployment is a phenomenon where a person is actively searching for employment, but they are unable to find it. There are two immediate factors
causing unemployment, which include voluntary and involuntary unemployment. Voluntary unemployment majorly arises as a result of an individual
leaving the current job to search for another work. This unemployment may result when an individual is no longer satisfied with the working
conditions, salary or the current position isn't matching the skills. Involuntary unemployment majorly arises when an individual is laid off and is

This issue results in the graduating students being stranded to find a job since, even if there are companies and business opportunities being created, it
will be difficult to match the massive demand for jobs. Government policies can also contribute to unemployment. Privatization of the companies is
one of the major factors that can lead to joblessness in a country. When the country decides to privatize a company, it majorly leads to the retrenchment
of the workers unto which results in involuntary unemployment. The Government may come to this decision to as a result of poor performance of the
company and privatization majorly improves the company's performance. Policies such as the ones that aims at preventing foreign investments also
leads to joblessness since, it inhibits establishment of companies and businesses that would create employment for the citizens. Structural change is
also another primary causative agent of joblessness in a country. This unemployment occurs as a result of changes in the labor patterns, natural
disasters and the changes in the resource availability. One of the significant cases is when the available resources or raw materials get depleted. This
results in the individual who was employed losing their jobs leaving them unable to fit into other roles. Natural disasters also results in joblessness
since, in the event of such occurrences it leads to businesses being destroyed and this will likely lead to many people

Unemployment In Australia Essay
Unemployment: As can be seen in Fig 3 below, the unemployment rate in Australia has recently dropped below 5.8%, which is the lowest it has been
for over 20 months. This is despite the economy struggling over the previous 12 months due to a fall in investment in the mining industry. This has led
to the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) reducing interest rates on two occasions in the past 12 months to encourage the non–mining sectors of the
economy to fill this void and invest in resources, but some businesses are still reluctant to spend money. NAB economist Tapas Strickland said he
expected strong jobs growth to continue into 2016, stating " The forward indicators, such as jobs ads, suggest employment growth of 2% a year, and
when you do the calculations, that implies 20,000 (jobs added) per month". (Guardian, 2015)....show more content...
This growth rate was primarily driven by high consumer spending supported by both government spending and rising employment levels. According
to a report by the Australian Bureau of statistics, consumer spending contributed to two thirds of GDP growth in the fourth quarter. This came
despite a fall in income levels as Australian residents used their savings for spending purposes, and was also helped by a booming real estate sector
which was the largest contributor to the GDP growth in the fourth quarter. (Mehta, 2016). As can be seen in Fig.4 below, consumer spending in
australia increased to 231332 million in the last qtr of 2015 from 229576 million in the third qtr of 2015. There are numerous legal procedures to be

Essay on Literature Review on Unemployment
Literature Review on Unemployment
Introduction
Unemployment is recognised as one of the most challenging social problems currently facing Australia. In the last two decades and more recently with
the global recession high levels of unemployment have become an established feature of the South Australian social and economic landscape, with
young people aged 15 to 24 years among those hardest hit by unemployment.
In the past quarter the unemployment rate in South Australia has remained steady at 5.6% (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2009) but this figure is
volatile and may increase next month. The youth unemployment rate, however, in South Australia remains at 21.9% with the Western and Northern
suburbs having significantly higher...show more content...
The absence of employment, therefore, can mean that many people do not have vital human needs met such as an opportunity to exercise control, to
use and develop skills and have contact with others.
The research literature shows a strong association between unemployment and ill health. Some illness is caused by unemployment whilst other health
problems are exacerbated by unemployment ( Smith, 1987; Mathers & Schofield,1998). An Australian summary of the health and unemployment
literature by Mathers and Schofield (1998) identified that unemployment has detrimental effects on mental health, physical health and health related
behaviours.
Mental Health
The evidence that unemployment has negative effects on mental health is strong. Mental health effects on young unemployed people include low self
esteem and confidence
( Gurney, 1980; Prause and Dooley, 1997), increased incidence of depression ( Patton and Noller, 1990; Winefield et al, 1993; West & Sweeting,
1996), stress related symptoms ( Hammarstrom, 1994) and higher levels of anxiety ( Morrell et al, 1994; West & Sweeting,1996). In their study,
Morrell et al (1998) find a strong association between unemployment in young 15 to 25 year olds and youth suicide.
Physical Health
Research has shown the links between unemployment and higher morbidity and mortality rates( Mathers and Schofield) where health outcomes are
poorer and premature deaths are

Unemployment in the United States Essay
The unemployment rate has dramatically increased over the last several months. This increase has created many complications for the American
people. Although the United States economy has created over 7 million jobs, there is still a long way to go until the economy is back on track. The
unemployment rate is divided into variables; such as employment level, unemployment level, labor force and stock variables. At a certain time in a
recession they are measured in quantities. Due to a flow of variables such as natural populations, net immigrations, new entrances, and retirements there
is change to the labor force. The growth of jobs is a relief but with the percent that are still unemployed and the billions of...show more content...
The unemployment rate has gone so high that it leaves families to deal with psychological and economic effects of the impact of unemployment.
Unemployment has caused many people to have to foreclose on their homes. The vast majority are hit hard in the black communities. Employers are
not hiring any new help right now until they are sure that the economy will stay strong and not fall back down again. Many employers will fight
against giving an individual unemployment benefits to help save them money on their unemployment insurance rates. The insurance rates are based
upon the amount of benefits the unemployed receive. People will find it surprising that their unemployment benefits are being challenged. Employers
will try to deny a claim but if one is successful, the cost of the company will raise. Unemployment benefits are not only for the people who have lost
their jobs due to company downsizing but to people who have resigned or who were discharged for a reason beyond their control. The benefits are
given to people who are unemployed with the intension of seeking new employment. The benefits usually come in small amounts to cover basic needs.
You may receive unemployment benefit extensions for an additional thirty–four to fifty–three weeks during high unemployment. While receiving
unemployment benefits, you have the option to have taxes taken out of each check as you receive them or you will have to pay at the end of the year
when you file

Unemployment And The Rate Of Unemployment Essay
Rate of unemployment The definition of 'Unemployment' is given by International Labour Organisation (ILO) and adopted by Bangladesh
Bureau of Statistics (BBS) as "A person aged 15 years and over is considered as unemployed if he/she do not work at all during the preceding week of
the survey (even an hour in the reference week) and is actively looking for work or is available for work but do not work due to temporary illness or
because there is no work available". The rate of unemployment increased in Bangladesh during the 10 year–period (1999–2000 to 2010). According to
Labour Force Survey, 2010 the rate of unemployment stood at 4.5 percent in 2010 which was 4.3 percent in 1999–2000. Furthermore, one of the most
crucial findings is that the rate of unemployment for female has been decreasing; on the other hand, this rate has been increasing for male in the
mentioned period (Basak,2013). For the female, the rates of unemployment were 7.8 percent and 5.8 percent in 1999–2000 and 2010 respectively,
whereas those were 3.4 percent and 4.1 percent for male for the corresponding years. Moreover, this rate was significantly higher in urban areas
compared to rural areas in 2010. In rural areas, the rate of unemployment was only 4 percent, whereas at urban areas, it was 6.5 percent. besides this,
the rate of unemployment increased with the increase of educational level up to Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent levels. After that,
this rate reduced for

As humanity progresses, technology continues to develop and grow more complex. However, with every piece of advanced technology there are jobs
and industries that are irreversibly affected. Examples of this are farming and manufacturing, where workers have been replaced by machinery creating
large amounts of short term unemployment. However, these people eventually are filtered back into the economy, most finding new employment. It is
known among economists that as technology is developed society will grow more prosperous and the economy will increase in size. Despite the fact
that previous jumps in technology have not lead to mass unemployment, the rise in technologies, like artificial intelligence, make these concerns over
technology taking jobs much more real. Entire industries like taxi driving, trucking and even some white–collar jobs will be replaced by technology. A
study done in an academic journal estimates 47% of jobs in the USA are at risk of computerisation (Frey and Osborne, 2013). If these estimates come
true, there will be massive amounts of unemployed people in the future which would have devastating effects on the economy. Unemployment is
defined as someone who is out of work yet actively searching. It is usually split into three different types: Cyclical, frictional and structural
unemployment. Structural unemployment is when there is a difference between the characteristics and skills of the people looking for work and those
hiring workers. Frictional

Inflation And Unemployment Essay

  • 1. Inflation And Unemployment Essay Historically, the relationship between inflation and unemployment has been studied, debated, and been used as economic indicators to explain the overall health of the economy. Both inflation and unemployment will fluctuate and change based on phases of the business cycle. From a simplistic view, high levels of inflation and unemployment indicate that the economy is not operating at is an optimal level of output. During periods where inflation and unemployment are high, individuals are saving more and businesses are operating at excess capacity. The key is to understand and study this relationship to better understand its overall effect on the economy and how to control levels of inflations and keep unemployment low. Inflation occurs when...show more content... With these slower growth rates, businesses were operating at excess capacity which increased levels of unemployment and rising inflation. During the mid–1970's unemployment rates soared to approximately 11 percent & inflation rates spiked to approximately 12 (Cashell & Labonte, 4). This gave rise to the natural rate hypothesis which explained that unemployment could be more simply viewed under the supply and demand instances. The natural rate was formulated around the idea that as the unemployment rate decreased there was a need to increase wages to combat the increase in prices. Increasing real wages would keep unemployment low and stabilize inflation rates in the long–run. Fluctuations in the unemployment rate can be influenced by many different factors. The demand for employees can vary based changes in technology, population, shifts, and skills need in manufacturing and service industries, and overall growth of the economy (Cashell, 13). Critics of the natural rate believe unemployment cannot be so easily explained by supply and demand. During the mid–1990's unemployment fell below 4% below the estimated natural rate and economist believed that a spike in inflation would follow, however, this did not occur. During this time period inflation rate's decreased. Many believed that the reason for both low unemployment and inflation was due to a surging economy leading to high levels of productivity and output while keeping Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Unemployment Essay Unemployment Definition of Unemployment The unemployment rate is the percentage of the US labor force that is unemployed. It is calculated by dividing the number of unemployed individuals by the sum of the number of people unemployed and employed. An individual is counted as unemployed if they are over the age of 16 and actively looking for a job, but cannot find one. Students, who choose not to work, and retirees, are not counted in the unemployment rate. In March 2001: Description Total civilian population 211,171,000(Excluding those under 16, members of the military, andpersons in institutions) – Not in Labor force 69,304,000 (Retired, students, individuals choosing not to work)= Labor force141,868,000...show more content... The growth in the labor force depends upon the growth of the working age population and increases in the percentage of that group willing to work. Projections are that the size of the group will continue to grow slightly more than one percent a year and that the percentage working will not increase significantly. Under those conditions, the sustainable monthly growth in jobs is about 155,000. The last three months of 2000 have shown growth in the labor force that is less than that sustainable growth rate. Newspapers and magazines are writing about the slowing growth in the U.S. economy. References are pointing to the slowing growth in spending which is resulting in cutbacks in production and in some cases employment. The result of that slowing growth is this month's increase in the unemployment rate and decrease in employment. In May of 1999, the Federal Reserve began a policy of slowing the rate of growth in the money supply and creating increases in short–term interest rates. That policy lasted through November of 2000. The goal was to slow the rate of growth in spending in the economy to be more in line with the growth in capacity. That policy has surely had an affect and evidence of that are beginning to appear in a slower growth in real gross domestic products (GDP) in the last quarter of 2000, a rise in unemployment from October through February, and the slowing increase in the number of jobs. • 4. Argument Essay On Unemployment Joseph Thompson Professor Nelson English 101 30 November 2017 Unemployment Unemployment is something every nation deals with, some remedy their issue while in other countries such as the U.S. it seems to be a more commonly reoccurring issue or even epidemic at points. This makes it clear the biggest problem facing the U.S. is the unemployment. A major point raised in favor of this argument is how unemployment seems to never go away in the U.S.; we attempt to put these temporary Band–Aids on the issue so we can "save our economy" but in fact, it's only procrastinating the problem and leaving it to snowball and affect future generations such as ourselves and our next of kin. The current unemployment rate is also providing false hope to U.S. citizens, making it look as if we are in a good economic standing when you reveal the full story you see the poverty line is rising and the debt clock is skyrocketing like never before. Another major flaw with the unemployment rate that most citizens don't see is how the unemployment rate forgives to account for many factors and adjustments such as labor participation rate and the demographic adjustments that leave the unemployment rate 2–7% higher than as stated currently. Many people do make the argument that with unemployment being at an all–time low, it should be of low priority in society. However like stated previously, the fix put in to lower our unemployment rate is only temporary, as it is every time. Barack Obama himself spoke Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Essay on The Problem of Youth Unemployment Work is central to most of our lives, that enables us to get by in the world, but also the key to how we define ourselves and to our sense of self–worth. In the UK the unemployment rate stands at 6.9% now and from the figures 19.1% are between ages 16–24. Almost one in five young people unable to find a job. Youth employment has become a long–term problem in the UK, with over a quarter of million young people have been looking for work for a year or more (Mirza–Davies 2014). And increase of youth unemployment slow down the speed of UK economic recovery, although the financial crisis of 2008 affected national economic around the world, which has already 5 years ago. So we have to think about is it government not do well in the unemployment...show more content... The unemployment among the youth is commonly associated with various problems like high crime rate among the youth and riots. The youths have remained unemployed because of various social challenges that face the youths. These include laziness among the youth which makes them not to desire to search for employment hence, they remain unemployed for long durations because of such social elements. These two fundamental outcomes of unemployment could result in the social breakdown when they reach unmanageable levels. Joblessness remains the fundamental cause of the social evils commonly associated with high unemployment levels. These social problems cannot be predicted when they will occur, but they certainly will occur when the unemployment becomes uncontrollable. The youth unemployment can be defined as a time bomb waiting to explode. These imminent problems associated with unemployment present a significant challenge to many governments in seeking to provide solutions to the problem of unemployment. The fundamental approach utilised by many governments remains the creation of jobs within the informal sector. Other than the creation of jobs that ensure the individuals become directly absorbed into the labour market, other approaches are also utilised by different governments around the world. • 6. Unemployment Essay Options: Creating and enhancing a work placement program in every state will allow discouraged and marginalized workers a resource for finding employment that matches their skill set. This will allow the employee to be situated in a position where they can optimize their skill level, thus optimizing production, and giving the employee bargaining power, which can be used to receive benefits and a wage level that best suits their skill level (Bunzel). Additionally, if the work placement program enhances workforce participation, then there will be greater competition for employment, which should lead employees to find jobs that they are most suited for, and thus producing better job security, more efficient output levels, and higher...show more content... Currently, the site has a lot of resources for users, however, if someone doesn't have access to broadband, they may be unable to access these resources. Therefore, there needs to be more outreach to marginalized workers. Recommendation: My recommendation is to provide funding to expand the work placement program in the state of Wisconsin. The program will be aimed at providing resources for those that are marginalized in the job search by offering services such as professional development and work search assistance (Job Center). The program will also work to better match employees to their optimal job by identifying and matching their skill sets. This program will continue to be state run and regulated (Job Center). Expansion of the program will also mean more community outreach, especially to more rural areas that may be short on resources such as broadband connection and information technology. Major urban areas that have a large amount of structurally unemployed individuals also need attention in providing a connection between employee and employer. Some of the funding for the program's expansion can come from cuts to unemployment benefits that are likely too high to encourage individuals to seek new employment. To make this idea more appealing to you colleague, Senator Fitzgerald, you can suggest that some of the marginalized and discouraged Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Canada lost a net 5,700 jobs in the first month of 2016, and the national unemployment rate increased to 7.2% from 7.1%. Unemployment is one of the major concerns of macroeconomics. It means that a person who is 16 years old or above that unemployed, but is available for work, and has made specific efforts to find a job during the previous four weeks. • 10. Why Unemployment Is Important? 5.8 percent is the current unemployment rate for the month of October in 2014 in the United States. Why talking about unemployment is important? Well, information about unemployment and other market forces will be very helpful to the reader when the time of talking and explaining how the neoclassical economics, market forces operating in the labor market, assure that the economy will not suffer from prolonged bouts or periods of high unemployment occurs. Economists define unemployment as: a person who is willing to work at the current wage being paid for people with his/her skills and experience, but is not employed. The key word in the definition for unemployment is "willing" to work because a person who chooses not to work is not considered unemployed. And it is no included in the labor force neither. The labor force only includes employed and unemployed people. This paper will mention the market forces in the labor market that assure that the economy will not suffer from a long period of high unemployment according to the neoclassical school of thought, also the criticism made by Keynesian of the neoclassical position, as well as why a market economy can find itself in a state of prolonged levels of high unemployment that market forces cannot cure, according to the school of Keynesian economics. Unemployment is a phenomenon where a person is actively searching for employment, but they are unable to find it. There are two immediate factors causing unemployment, which include voluntary and involuntary unemployment. Voluntary unemployment majorly arises as a result of an individual leaving the current job to search for another work. This unemployment may result when an individual is no longer satisfied with the working conditions, salary or the current position isn't matching the skills. Government policies can also contribute to unemployment. Privatization of the companies is one of the major factors that can lead to joblessness in a country. When the country decides to privatize a company, it majorly leads to the retrenchment of the workers unto which results in involuntary unemployment. The Government may come to this decision to as a result of poor performance of the company and privatization majorly improves the company's performance. Central Idea: Today, I would like to tell you about the problem of extending unemployment benefits, as well as offer some possible solutions that our lawmakers should adopt instead of another extension. Introduction Millions of Americans have lost their jobs and have joined the growing ranks of the unemployed recently as the recent recession gripped the U.S. In fact, nearly one out of ten Americans are now unemployed and seeking a new job. B.Extending unemployment benefits also encourages misuse unemployment benefits. 1.An article by Marianne Hill, "Unemployment Insurance: a Broken System," tells that: "when unemployment insurance was established as a nationwide program in 1935, it was hailed as a means of enabling workers to protect their standard of living between jobs". 2.The system was originally set up to help people who suddenly lose their job, but there is now wide misuse of the system which is only encouraged when the time period someone is allowed to collect benefits is extended time and again. 3.Types of misuse and fraud include claiming unemployment benefits while working another job that pays cash only which isn't reported, failing to actively seek employmen while collecting unemployment, and fraudulently using stolen social security numbers to claim unemployment. 4.Each year more than 16 million dollars worth of unemployment fraud is identified by Labor Department investigation––and that is likely just Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Unemployment In Australia Essay Unemployment: As can be seen in Fig 3 below, the unemployment rate in Australia has recently dropped below 5.8%, which is the lowest it has been for over 20 months. This is despite the economy struggling over the previous 12 months due to a fall in investment in the mining industry. This has led to the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) reducing interest rates on two occasions in the past 12 months to encourage the non–mining sectors of the economy to fill this void and invest in resources, but some businesses are still reluctant to spend money. NAB economist Tapas Strickland said he expected strong jobs growth to continue into 2016, stating " The forward indicators, such as jobs ads, suggest employment growth of 2% a year, and when you do the calculations, that implies 20,000 (jobs added) per month". (Guardian, 2015)....show more content... This growth rate was primarily driven by high consumer spending supported by both government spending and rising employment levels. According to a report by the Australian Bureau of statistics, consumer spending contributed to two thirds of GDP growth in the fourth quarter. This came despite a fall in income levels as Australian residents used their savings for spending purposes, and was also helped by a booming real estate sector which was the largest contributor to the GDP growth in the fourth quarter. (Mehta, 2016). As can be seen in Fig.4 below, consumer spending in australia increased to 231332 million in the last qtr of 2015 from 229576 million in the third qtr of 2015. The downsizing strategies of many firms for whatever reason, has led to increased unemployment levels whereby, the company can no longer afford to produce at the optimal level they once were able to, and would no longer require the services of some of their employees. • 15. Essay on Literature Review on Unemployment Literature Review on Unemployment Introduction Unemployment is recognised as one of the most challenging social problems currently facing Australia. In the last two decades and more recently with the global recession high levels of unemployment have become an established feature of the South Australian social and economic landscape, with young people aged 15 to 24 years among those hardest hit by unemployment. In the past quarter the unemployment rate in South Australia has remained steady at 5.6% (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2009) but this figure is volatile and may increase next month. The youth unemployment rate, however, in South Australia remains at 21.9% with the Western and Northern suburbs having significantly higher...show more content... The absence of employment, therefore, can mean that many people do not have vital human needs met such as an opportunity to exercise control, to use and develop skills and have contact with others. The research literature shows a strong association between unemployment and ill health. Some illness is caused by unemployment whilst other health problems are exacerbated by unemployment ( Smith, 1987; Mathers & Schofield,1998). An Australian summary of the health and unemployment literature by Mathers and Schofield (1998) identified that unemployment has detrimental effects on mental health, physical health and health related behaviours. Mental Health The evidence that unemployment has negative effects on mental health is strong. Mental health effects on young unemployed people include low self esteem and confidence ( Gurney, 1980; Prause and Dooley, 1997), increased incidence of depression ( Patton and Noller, 1990; Winefield et al, 1993; West & Sweeting, 1996), stress related symptoms ( Hammarstrom, 1994) and higher levels of anxiety ( Morrell et al, 1994; West & Sweeting,1996). In their study, Morrell et al (1998) find a strong association between unemployment in young 15 to 25 year olds and youth suicide.

  • 17. Unemployment in the United States Essay The unemployment rate has dramatically increased over the last several months. This increase has created many complications for the American people. Although the United States economy has created over 7 million jobs, there is still a long way to go until the economy is back on track. The unemployment rate is divided into variables; such as employment level, unemployment level, labor force and stock variables. At a certain time in a recession they are measured in quantities. Due to a flow of variables such as natural populations, net immigrations, new entrances, and retirements there is change to the labor force. Employers are not hiring any new help right now until they are sure that the economy will stay strong and not fall back down again. Many employers will fight against giving an individual unemployment benefits to help save them money on their unemployment insurance rates. The insurance rates are based upon the amount of benefits the unemployed receive. People will find it surprising that their unemployment benefits are being challenged. Employers will try to deny a claim but if one is successful, the cost of the company will raise. Unemployment benefits are not only for the people who have lost their jobs due to company downsizing but to people who have resigned or who were discharged for a reason beyond their control. The benefits are given to people who are unemployed with the intension of seeking new employment. The benefits usually come in small amounts to cover basic needs. You may receive unemployment benefit extensions for an additional thirty–four to fifty–three weeks during high unemployment. While receiving unemployment benefits, you have the option to have taxes taken out of each check as you receive them or you will have to pay at the end of the year when you file Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Unemployment And The Rate Of Unemployment Essay Rate of unemployment The definition of 'Unemployment' is given by International Labour Organisation (ILO) and adopted by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) as "A person aged 15 years and over is considered as unemployed if he/she do not work at all during the preceding week of the survey (even an hour in the reference week) and is actively looking for work or is available for work but do not work due to temporary illness or because there is no work available". The rate of unemployment increased in Bangladesh during the 10 year–period (1999–2000 to 2010). According to Labour Force Survey, 2010 the rate of unemployment stood at 4.5 percent in 2010 which was 4.3 percent in 1999–2000. Furthermore, one of the most crucial findings is that the rate of unemployment for female has been decreasing; on the other hand, this rate has been increasing for male in the mentioned period (Basak,2013). For the female, the rates of unemployment were 7.8 percent and 5.8 percent in 1999–2000 and 2010 respectively, whereas those were 3.4 percent and 4.1 percent for male for the corresponding years. Moreover, this rate was significantly higher in urban areas compared to rural areas in 2010. In rural areas, the rate of unemployment was only 4 percent, whereas at urban areas, it was 6.5 percent. besides this, the rate of unemployment increased with the increase of educational level up to Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent levels. • 19. As humanity progresses, technology continues to develop and grow more complex. However, with every piece of advanced technology there are jobs and industries that are irreversibly affected. Examples of this are farming and manufacturing, where workers have been replaced by machinery creating large amounts of short term unemployment. However, these people eventually are filtered back into the economy, most finding new employment. It is known among economists that as technology is developed society will grow more prosperous and the economy will increase in size. Despite the fact that previous jumps in technology have not lead to mass unemployment, the rise in technologies, like artificial intelligence, make these concerns over technology taking jobs much more real. Entire industries like taxi driving, trucking and even some white–collar jobs will be replaced by technology. A study done in an academic journal estimates 47% of jobs in the USA are at risk of computerisation (Frey and Osborne, 2013). If these estimates come true, there will be massive amounts of unemployed people in the future which would have devastating effects on the economy. Unemployment is defined as someone who is out of work yet actively searching. It is usually split into three different types: Cyclical, frictional and structural unemployment. Structural unemployment is when there is a difference between the characteristics and skills of the people looking for work and those hiring workers. Frictional Get more content on HelpWriting.net
