Labor And Delivery Narrative Analysis
Labor and Delivery Narrative Paper A 41 year old G2 T1 P0 A0 L1 at 40 weeks of gestation was admitted on 03/25/16 with contractions. Her last
pregnancy was 22 years ago. Her husband was at the bedside holding her hand and emotionally supporting her. When I entered the room, the nurse
was evaluating the patient. Upon evaluation she was noted to be 4 cm dilated. The patient only spoke Spanish so she told me that she wanted some
pain medication because her contraction were very intense and painful. At 1700 she received a dose of fentanyl for the pain. The nurse went to check
ten minutes later, and she said that the medication just relieved some of the pain. At 1800 she requested more pain medication, but the nurse talked to
her about the other option to relieve labor pain. The patient did not want to receive an epidural because she thought it was not safe for the baby. After

came to talk to the patient at 1920 that she had to have a Cā€“section because the baby's HR was decreased and it was not safe for the baby. The Dr.
asked mom if she could sign a consent form for the Cā€“section. The patient told her husband to sign the consent since she was not feeling good. The
patient was shivering and feeling extremely cold. The patient reminded the nurse that she was a Jehovah's Witness and that she could not get any
blood products. At 1930 I help the nurse to disinfect the patient with sage wipes. The patient was headed to the OR at 1940. A horizontal incision
was made in the lower abdomen and took about twenty minutes. The baby girl was delivered at 1951, her blood loss was 500ml and the amount of
urine was 200ml. The Apgar scale was 9/9. After the score was assigned, the baby was taken to bind skin to skin with her mother. Mom was really
excited with her baby and her husband at her side. Finally, the patient was taken to PACU at 2020 to recover. Definitely, it was a remarkable
experience full of learning and emotional

Narrative Essay About Having A Dream
Everyone has a dream. Whether it's small or big...we all have one. We also give up on them. We get stuck in the idea that our ideas are too farā€“fetched
either because of other people's comments or because of our own selfā€“doubt. We allow ourselves to forget about them and move on to things we
believe are better for us. To things that although don't make us happy, are what society tells us is the right way to live. It's hard to have adream and keep
it. The world we live in today is so cruel that a lot of times we don't even bother to dream anymore. We've gotten to the point where dreaming is just
that. A dream.
Yet, for my mom, that wasn't the case.
My mother was born on March 24, 1973, in a small village in Guatemala. She grew up there...show more content...
She sat me down and said well why not do both. I remember when she said that I was so happy. We began to think of how I could do both and
came up with the idea of a singing lawyer. It was probably the worst idea we've ever had. I don't even think it would have worked out well either, but
it was the fact that I could have done it and my mom would be completely okay with it and made it seem perfectly normal that helped me to never quit
on my dreams.
Her experience growing up wasn't at all how she made mine. Her mother and step father never encouraged or supported her. Growing up my mother
struggled a lot. She had to grow up a lot faster than most kids and had to deal with the real world way before she should have had to. She was never
pushed to do better or told that her dreams could come true.
Since she was little she was always having to take care of her three sisters. She wasn't allowed to go out a lot so she was always home studying or in
her room. She was so restricted in her own home that even now I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt. To constantly have to worry not only
about yourself but for other people when you haven't even reached puberty.
Her stepfather was the worst of all. He would always put her down and would try to make her feel like nothing. She didn't even have protection from
her own mother, because her mom would never say anything about it. She just let it happen.
My mom

Example Of A Narrative Essay College
A narrative essay is a story that is true and has meaning, whether it be to prove a point, send a message, explain an event that's happened, or
entertain the reader. Most narrative essays are written to convey a story from a past time that sends a message to not only the reader, but the writer
themselves. When planning a narrative essay, the first step is to identify the topic in which the writer wants to explain. There are multiple ways in
which the you can come up with a topic, it all depends on the style you're most comfortable with. The next step is to write down all the main events
that supports the topic you have chosen. What main events led up to the story you're trying to approach? What key events made what your topic is all
about?...show more content...
This event made a big impact on my life as it showed me the value of work ethic by showing me that hard work pays off. It also taught me to never
give up and follow your heart. And lastly, it taught me the importance of a team to help me through the tough practices and mental battles. When
choosing my topic, I wrote down 3 main events that were important in my life that impacted me and shaped myself into the person I am today. The 3 I
chose were: breaking the 3200ā€“meter record for my school, breaking the 4x800 record with my team, and lastly, moving from Poinciana to
Kissimmee and leaving all my friends to take on a new chapter in my life. The topic I chose to write is one I feel very passionate about and the
single memory I can recall the most. Although breaking the 4x800 record with my team was a memorable moment and the first record I'd ever
broken at my school, nothing compared to the feeling I got when I broke an individual record that was held by my own coach. I had a sense of relief
and happiness, not just for myself, but my coach as well. It felt as if I didn't just break the record for the sake of me personally, but for him too. May
have taken 21 years to be broken, but I'd say it sure was worth

BRIEF STATEMENT OF INFORMATION REQUESTED AND GIVEN
This MSA mentioned above, continues to slander my name around this VA. This entire incident started approximately a month and half ago, where
worked in the Endocrine/Renal clinic and was questioned about makes made by Marlene in Sara NP Endocrinology clinic, by Sara. Marlene emailed
Sara and told her that her mistakes were made due to the nurses in endocrinology treating her badly. This was relayed to the endocrinology nurse, who
shared it with me. I just put that aside and did not thrive on it. It was then told to me by 2 other clerks (other units) that Marlene was very upset
with me because I treated her so badly when she works our floor. Again, I did not make a fuss about it. While I was covering for Toni Ayers (nurse
manager) one day, I received a call from Katinaā€“MSA supervisor on some other business, and I alerted her that I have been told by several people that
Marlene is upset with me, and what was shared by her. I only wanted Katina to hear my side of the story, because I contine to hear these same stories
around the clinic. I have ALWAYS helped any new clerk that presents on this floor, due to multiple clinics and it can be confusing. I have never said
anything out of the ordinary to Marlene, other than I am willing to HELP her, and told her my extension if needed....show more content...

Conflicts
Conflict means a struggle or problem between two opposing groups or individuals. There are two types of conflict: internal and external conflict. An
internal conflict is a struggle that is internalized and deals with choices, consequences, or emotions. An internal conflict is a man vs. self struggle. An
external conflict is a struggle between the protagonist and another character against nature or some outside force. External conflicts are either man
verses man, man verses nature, or man verses society. Various examples of internal and external conflicts can be shown in Guy de Maupassant's "The
Necklace," Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game," and O.Henry's, "The Gift of the Magi." Firstly, Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace" shows

He is put into a situation where he has to swim until he finds shelter. He swims, and "for a seemingly endless time he fought the sea" (Connell 42).
After a while, he found an island called Ship Trap Island. So, this shows how he fought against nature. Another example of conflict in this story is
when Rainsford has to fight against General Zaroff, who is an expert at hunting humans on Ship Trap Island. As Rainsford gets challenged by
Zaroff, he says, "'Thank you, I'm a hunter, not a murderer'" (49). This shows an example of another external conflict. But, this one is a man verses
man conflict because Rainsford is facing a problem with another character in the story. Therefore, Rainsford faces many situations where he has to
choose between life or death. Lastly, examples of conflict can be shown in "The Gift of the Magi" by O.Henry. This story is about a cute couple
that is willing to do anything to buy each other Christmas presents. An internal conflict faced by Della Young, the protagonist, is when she does not
have enough money to buy her husband Jim a present. All Della had was "one dollar and eighty seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas"
(O. Henry 153). To get more money, Della sells her most prized possession, which is her hair. After Della and Jim finally bought their presents by
selling their most prized possessions, another conflict arose. Della bought Jim a chain for his watch, and Jim bought Della hair combs that she

Narrative Analysis Roland Barthes
Visual Narrativesā€“ Textual/theoretical analysis
As Roland Barthes states "Narrative is present in every place..." , everything around us narrates, speaks to us, portraying meanings and stories which
the viewers engage with, recognizing their meanings through simplistic illustrative drawings, from symbols that we see on a daily basis (traffic signs,
instruction booklets, maps) to ballet, plays, and art which require a deeper understanding of symbols and meanings. Everyone has contrasting views
and ways of looking at a piece of Art. In exhibitions Art evokes a simultaneousnarrative, the viewers commencing a discussion on a contemporary
piece of jewellery for example, transforming it into a conversation piece. Art is always viewed differently by one another, therefore it could be very
interesting for the creator to listen to the viewer's narrated opinion, which could sometimes be contrary to the artist's initial starting point. Fischer's
narrative paradigm is that people are storytellers but we make decisions on plausible reasons, narrative rationality being determined by the coherence of
the stories.
Through a thorough examination of the conventions of narrative, you are able to evaluate how the audience interest is engaged, why narratives have
effects on audiences, and how everyone constructs their own opinions. What are people's beliefs influenced by? Perhaps based on what they see in
front of them, (opera, piece of art, animated movie) and their previous knowledge on

Mary Rowlandson's Captivity Narrative Analysis
Mary Rowlandson's captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone who wanted to protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes,
the publisher "claims credit for persuading this modest woman to allow publication of her private material and gives credibility to a work that would
not be allowed to stand on its own because of its female author" (58). While the publisher takes credit for getting Rowlandson to publish her captivity
narrative, he also encourages the audience in the preface to "accept the work" of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the audience that
Rowlandson is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is trying to make sure the audience does not discredit her work simply
because it was written by a woman. It is important to understand the women's role in the Puritan society. The Puritans believe that a woman is Christ's
bride, husband's wife, a mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to obey and submit to men in authority, especially their husbands
(Davis 54). This is idea of submitting to husbands is biblical. Ephesians 5: 22ā€“24 states, "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the
husband is head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything" (The Bible).
Since the Puritans studied the scripture and followed, it is understandable why this is a Puritan belief. This idea of submitting is shown between
Rowlandson and her Indian master. She is aware of the consequences and wants to be in favor with him; therefore, she used her Puritan ideology to
gain favor (Davis 54). For example, in the ninth remove, Rowlandson writes, "At last he told me if I would make another shirt, for a papoose not yet
born, he would give me a knife, which he did when I had done it" (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her master by making another
shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen that Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to
men, even though it is not her husband. Many Puritans saw this captivity as a punishment for sins similar to the forty years of wandering for the

After living in Europe for 2 years, we were exposed to so many different cultures and people for whom speaking more than one language was no big
deal. Europeans generally speak at least two languages, often more, without thinking that was unusual.
While we were living in Luxembourg, I decided to take my French training and start imparting that to my kids. The goal not so much being that they
would become fluent in French, but to expand their horizons, and make them aware of other languages and cultures in the world. However, if they
become fluent... that would be AWESOME. Also, because they are still so young, their brain 'catches' language so much easier than when they get older.

Looking back on when I began learning French (middle school), I did not think it was fun AT ALL. Seeing my kids singing French songs, and playing
games in French, I have realized it's just another adventure in learning about the world for them. They think it's fun! And, they have an incredible ear
for hearing accents. My daughter can say the french "r" with no difficulty at all, while after years of trying my "r" words still sound abysmal.
Don't be intimidated to try this in your own home! Start small and build, and soon your kids will look at you and say "Vert" when you ask them what

In short, I enjoyed the experience of interviewing an elderly person. Conversing with elderly adults is something I am fond of. Choosing a person
for the interview was not a difficult task because I have a close relationship with my neighbor Virginia. On Monday afternoon I called her house
phone and explained in detail that I would be interviewing an elderly person and would she like to participate. I selected Virginia because of her age
and I believe she is the wisest in my neighborhood. The information and tips provided from Virginia are very useful and insightful.
On July 15, 1913, Virginia was born in Wortham, Texas. Virginia states that she had a joyful childhood filled with fond memories, and states it was
the best times of her life. Her household consisted of her father, mother, and a younger brother. Her mischievous brother loved to play tricks on her as
a child. She states "I cannot believe I am alive today as he loved to agitate me" (V. Dixon, personal communication, September 26, 2016). Inhigh school
, she was the head cheerleader, the leader in her homemaking group, she was in the honor society, and voted the favorite high school girl in the school.
Fortunately, Virginia absolutely loved school, as an illustration, she became a teacher later in life. In her town, they did not include kindergarten and
the school grades only went to the 11th. For...show more content...
Especially about the war and health in later years of life. To my surprise, I cannot believe that Virginia is not mistreated by others in society. This
statement surprised me because I see younger kids and adults are not respectful to adults of the elderly population. When I was growing you were
to be considerate of your elders. The times have definitely changed. A couple of ideas I will use in life is not to be afraid of aging, and stay healthy
and productive. Do not let tiny things worry you or a setback stop you from moving

It is an exhausting process especially to the beginners in research. It seems to be elusive for the researcher to be more reflexive by starting with a

My thoughts on the first draft would be right in the opening sentence so much information is being thrown at me. The sentence is a run on and should
be split into two different sentences. The start of the first paragraph needs to have a better attention grabber. There also needs to be more transitional
words between paragraph. The opening sentence in each paragraph is the same it starts with "In..." The thesis could be stronger in the opening
paragraph. It was very hard to fine because there was so much information in there. The order of the paragraphs could be placed differently and the
information in them. The grammar needs to be worked on there are a few comma splices throughout the paper. The ending of the sentences need to

The first thing I noticed was that the first sentence starts off with a strong hook which is the question. The question helps guide the rest of the
paper and is very helpful. The thesis is clear and easy to find whereas in the previous draft it was not easy to locate. The points that will be talked
about were talked about in the intro so we know what to look for in the paper. The word choice throughout the whole paper is much stronger and
really caries the paper. Another thing that they changed was the transition words. They don't use the same words over and over and that is important
because then we don't get that lost whereas before they used the same transition words and it got boring. The concluding sentence in the first
paragraph is strong and has everything that is needed to end the paragraph. The information that is in the paragraphs match the quotes that follow it.
Then the information in each paragraph balances it out and goes well together. As we saw before that did not happen and it made the article hard to
follow. The revised article is easy to follow because the little things were changed. They fixed many of the runā€“on sentences and made them stronger so
it was actually a sentence. The conclusion is also just as strong as the first paragraph. That is extremely important because then the whole essay sounds
good and together. The revised version is much better and many of the things that needed to be fixed got fixed which then tied everything

At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading.
Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the
severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my

You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it's
part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very
different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write
because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally.
To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have
to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing
assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar.
The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class
simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to
write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the

Essay on Narrative Therapy
Abstract
This paper will look at the logic of narrative therapy by focusing on 5 major points. This paper will begin by discussing how the narrative approach
defines and perceives problems. It will address how narrative therapy views the nature of the relationship between the client and the professional. This
paper will look at how problems are solved using the narrative approach. It will also focus on three main techniques used in narrative therapy, which
will include externalization, deconstruction and reā€“authoring. This paper will also include a short narrative critique of the medical model. The Logic of

According to Kelley (1996) this process is recommended by narrative therapists because it allows the client to begin to see where the discourse
emerged from. The therapist must first just listen to the story and determine what the client sees as the existing problem (Kelley, 1996). Then the
therapist begins to ask questions with the intention of bringing forth the full meaning of the problem (Kelley, 1996). In deconstruction the therapist
searches for answers as to who all is involved with the problem, what past events lead up to the problem development, how the problem changed over
time, how the client has been fighting the problem thus far and how the problem is affecting the client's life (Kelley, 1996).
Kelley (1996) reported that after the therapist has a full understanding of the problem the deconstruction phase moves on to its second stage. The
therapist and the client begin working together to break down the prevailing story in order to map the influence the problem is having on the client's
life (Kelley, 1996). Mapping the effect of the problem is particularly important because it lays the foundation of the new story line (Monk, Winslade,
Crocket & Epston, 1997). According to Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston (1997) typically when the effect of the problem is discussed with the
client they begin to feel as if their story has been heard. They

Grounded theory Is a qualitative approach which calls for simultaneous data collection and analysis to generate a theory during the research process. A
theory emerges inductively through the systematic data collection and analysis pertaining to a given phenomenon (Strauss & Corbin, 1990). This has
two fundamental characteristics which include: theoretical sampling and constant comparative analysis. Agrounded theory is generated by themes
which emerge from the data during analysis, capturing the essence of meaning drawn from varied contexts and situations
Theoretical sampling, this involves data collection for comparative analysis (Glaser & Strauss 1967). The collected data then gives insights and the
analysis leads to further data collection and analysis.

Both approaches are based on naturalistic inquiry. They focus on how people behave in natural settings while engaging in real life experiences. Both

Both approaches support flexibility in using multiple sources of data. This allows checking the reliability and validation of a given phenomenon under

Both methods seek themes through coding process. The main of these two approaches is to capture themes and subthemes which emerge in the process

Narrative Analysis of a Labor and Delivery Experience

  • 1. Labor And Delivery Narrative Analysis Labor and Delivery Narrative Paper A 41 year old G2 T1 P0 A0 L1 at 40 weeks of gestation was admitted on 03/25/16 with contractions. Her last pregnancy was 22 years ago. Her husband was at the bedside holding her hand and emotionally supporting her. When I entered the room, the nurse was evaluating the patient. Upon evaluation she was noted to be 4 cm dilated. The patient only spoke Spanish so she told me that she wanted some pain medication because her contraction were very intense and painful. At 1700 she received a dose of fentanyl for the pain. The nurse went to check ten minutes later, and she said that the medication just relieved some of the pain. At 1800 she requested more pain medication, but the nurse talked to her about the other option to relieve labor pain. The patient did not want to receive an epidural because she thought it was not safe for the baby. After talking with her husband, she...show more content... came to talk to the patient at 1920 that she had to have a Cā€“section because the baby's HR was decreased and it was not safe for the baby. The Dr. asked mom if she could sign a consent form for the Cā€“section. The patient told her husband to sign the consent since she was not feeling good. The patient was shivering and feeling extremely cold. The patient reminded the nurse that she was a Jehovah's Witness and that she could not get any blood products. At 1930 I help the nurse to disinfect the patient with sage wipes. The patient was headed to the OR at 1940. A horizontal incision was made in the lower abdomen and took about twenty minutes. The baby girl was delivered at 1951, her blood loss was 500ml and the amount of urine was 200ml. The Apgar scale was 9/9. After the score was assigned, the baby was taken to bind skin to skin with her mother. Mom was really excited with her baby and her husband at her side. Finally, the patient was taken to PACU at 2020 to recover. Definitely, it was a remarkable experience full of learning and emotional Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Narrative Essay About Having A Dream Everyone has a dream. Whether it's small or big...we all have one. We also give up on them. We get stuck in the idea that our ideas are too farā€“fetched either because of other people's comments or because of our own selfā€“doubt. We allow ourselves to forget about them and move on to things we believe are better for us. To things that although don't make us happy, are what society tells us is the right way to live. It's hard to have adream and keep it. The world we live in today is so cruel that a lot of times we don't even bother to dream anymore. We've gotten to the point where dreaming is just that. A dream. Yet, for my mom, that wasn't the case. My mother was born on March 24, 1973, in a small village in Guatemala. She grew up there...show more content... She sat me down and said well why not do both. I remember when she said that I was so happy. We began to think of how I could do both and came up with the idea of a singing lawyer. It was probably the worst idea we've ever had. I don't even think it would have worked out well either, but it was the fact that I could have done it and my mom would be completely okay with it and made it seem perfectly normal that helped me to never quit on my dreams. Her experience growing up wasn't at all how she made mine. Her mother and step father never encouraged or supported her. Growing up my mother struggled a lot. She had to grow up a lot faster than most kids and had to deal with the real world way before she should have had to. She was never pushed to do better or told that her dreams could come true. Since she was little she was always having to take care of her three sisters. She wasn't allowed to go out a lot so she was always home studying or in her room. She was so restricted in her own home that even now I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt. To constantly have to worry not only about yourself but for other people when you haven't even reached puberty. Her stepfather was the worst of all. He would always put her down and would try to make her feel like nothing. She didn't even have protection from her own mother, because her mom would never say anything about it. She just let it happen. My mom Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Example Of A Narrative Essay College A narrative essay is a story that is true and has meaning, whether it be to prove a point, send a message, explain an event that's happened, or entertain the reader. Most narrative essays are written to convey a story from a past time that sends a message to not only the reader, but the writer themselves. When planning a narrative essay, the first step is to identify the topic in which the writer wants to explain. There are multiple ways in which the you can come up with a topic, it all depends on the style you're most comfortable with. The next step is to write down all the main events that supports the topic you have chosen. What main events led up to the story you're trying to approach? What key events made what your topic is all about?...show more content... This event made a big impact on my life as it showed me the value of work ethic by showing me that hard work pays off. It also taught me to never give up and follow your heart. And lastly, it taught me the importance of a team to help me through the tough practices and mental battles. When choosing my topic, I wrote down 3 main events that were important in my life that impacted me and shaped myself into the person I am today. The 3 I chose were: breaking the 3200ā€“meter record for my school, breaking the 4x800 record with my team, and lastly, moving from Poinciana to Kissimmee and leaving all my friends to take on a new chapter in my life. The topic I chose to write is one I feel very passionate about and the single memory I can recall the most. Although breaking the 4x800 record with my team was a memorable moment and the first record I'd ever broken at my school, nothing compared to the feeling I got when I broke an individual record that was held by my own coach. I had a sense of relief and happiness, not just for myself, but my coach as well. It felt as if I didn't just break the record for the sake of me personally, but for him too. May have taken 21 years to be broken, but I'd say it sure was worth Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Examples Of Narrative Report Sample BRIEF STATEMENT OF INFORMATION REQUESTED AND GIVEN This MSA mentioned above, continues to slander my name around this VA. This entire incident started approximately a month and half ago, where worked in the Endocrine/Renal clinic and was questioned about makes made by Marlene in Sara NP Endocrinology clinic, by Sara. Marlene emailed Sara and told her that her mistakes were made due to the nurses in endocrinology treating her badly. This was relayed to the endocrinology nurse, who shared it with me. I just put that aside and did not thrive on it. It was then told to me by 2 other clerks (other units) that Marlene was very upset with me because I treated her so badly when she works our floor. Again, I did not make a fuss about it. While I was covering for Toni Ayers (nurse manager) one day, I received a call from Katinaā€“MSA supervisor on some other business, and I alerted her that I have been told by several people that Marlene is upset with me, and what was shared by her. I only wanted Katina to hear my side of the story, because I contine to hear these same stories around the clinic. I have ALWAYS helped any new clerk that presents on this floor, due to multiple clinics and it can be confusing. I have never said anything out of the ordinary to Marlene, other than I am willing to HELP her, and told her my extension if needed....show more content... This vet drove over an hour to get here, to find out he was scheduled into the wrong clinic. Dr. Reddy did not have a consult to see this vet, nor did this vet had kidney issues. This veteran stated he drove an hour to get here. I contacted Katina and Loretta to see if there are any compensations such as gas or lunch that I can provide for this veteran. Neither parties answered, therefore, I called Tracy Washington (volunteer services) to get assistance. Tracy sent an volunteer up to the renal clinic and a food voucher was given to this vet, which he very much appreciate Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Test Anxiety: A Narrative Analysis Zack is still putting forth a good effort in class ā€“ he always checks in with me to see if he is missing anything and he retests on quizzes and tests that he needs to without me bugging him about it. When he does retest, I always see a dramatic improvement ā€“ I don't know if he just has test anxiety the first time around, but I am glad he is comfortable enough to come in and go over things with me. We are going to be wrapping up exponents this week and then reviewing for the semester exam which will be on Tuesday, December 20th. I will be giving the kids review work to do to help them prepare and I will also be emphasizing web sites they can go to if they want extra practice ā€“ typically Khan Academy and Algebra Nation. • 6. Conflicts Conflict means a struggle or problem between two opposing groups or individuals. There are two types of conflict: internal and external conflict. An internal conflict is a struggle that is internalized and deals with choices, consequences, or emotions. An internal conflict is a man vs. self struggle. An external conflict is a struggle between the protagonist and another character against nature or some outside force. External conflicts are either man verses man, man verses nature, or man verses society. Various examples of internal and external conflicts can be shown in Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace," Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game," and O.Henry's, "The Gift of the Magi." Firstly, Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace" shows ...show more content... He is put into a situation where he has to swim until he finds shelter. He swims, and "for a seemingly endless time he fought the sea" (Connell 42). After a while, he found an island called Ship Trap Island. So, this shows how he fought against nature. Another example of conflict in this story is when Rainsford has to fight against General Zaroff, who is an expert at hunting humans on Ship Trap Island. As Rainsford gets challenged by Zaroff, he says, "'Thank you, I'm a hunter, not a murderer'" (49). This shows an example of another external conflict. But, this one is a man verses man conflict because Rainsford is facing a problem with another character in the story. Therefore, Rainsford faces many situations where he has to choose between life or death. Lastly, examples of conflict can be shown in "The Gift of the Magi" by O.Henry. This story is about a cute couple that is willing to do anything to buy each other Christmas presents. An internal conflict faced by Della Young, the protagonist, is when she does not have enough money to buy her husband Jim a present. All Della had was "one dollar and eighty seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas" (O. Henry 153). To get more money, Della sells her most prized possession, which is her hair. After Della and Jim finally bought their presents by selling their most prized possessions, another conflict arose. Della bought Jim a chain for his watch, and Jim bought Della hair combs that she Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Narrative Analysis Roland Barthes Visual Narrativesā€“ Textual/theoretical analysis As Roland Barthes states "Narrative is present in every place..." , everything around us narrates, speaks to us, portraying meanings and stories which the viewers engage with, recognizing their meanings through simplistic illustrative drawings, from symbols that we see on a daily basis (traffic signs, instruction booklets, maps) to ballet, plays, and art which require a deeper understanding of symbols and meanings. Everyone has contrasting views and ways of looking at a piece of Art. In exhibitions Art evokes a simultaneousnarrative, the viewers commencing a discussion on a contemporary piece of jewellery for example, transforming it into a conversation piece. Art is always viewed differently by one another, therefore it could be very interesting for the creator to listen to the viewer's narrated opinion, which could sometimes be contrary to the artist's initial starting point. Fischer's narrative paradigm is that people are storytellers but we make decisions on plausible reasons, narrative rationality being determined by the coherence of the stories. Through a thorough examination of the conventions of narrative, you are able to evaluate how the audience interest is engaged, why narratives have effects on audiences, and how everyone constructs their own opinions. What are people's beliefs influenced by? Perhaps based on what they see in front of them, (opera, piece of art, animated movie) and their previous knowledge on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Mary Rowlandson's Captivity Narrative Analysis Mary Rowlandson's captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone who wanted to protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes, the publisher "claims credit for persuading this modest woman to allow publication of her private material and gives credibility to a work that would not be allowed to stand on its own because of its female author" (58). While the publisher takes credit for getting Rowlandson to publish her captivity narrative, he also encourages the audience in the preface to "accept the work" of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the audience that Rowlandson is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is trying to make sure the audience does not discredit her work simply because it was written by a woman. It is important to understand the women's role in the Puritan society. The Puritans believe that a woman is Christ's bride, husband's wife, a mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to obey and submit to men in authority, especially their husbands (Davis 54). This is idea of submitting to husbands is biblical. Ephesians 5: 22ā€“24 states, "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything" (The Bible). Since the Puritans studied the scripture and followed, it is understandable why this is a Puritan belief. This idea of submitting is shown between Rowlandson and her Indian master. She is aware of the consequences and wants to be in favor with him; therefore, she used her Puritan ideology to gain favor (Davis 54). For example, in the ninth remove, Rowlandson writes, "At last he told me if I would make another shirt, for a papoose not yet born, he would give me a knife, which he did when I had done it" (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her master by making another shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen that Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to men, even though it is not her husband. Many Puritans saw this captivity as a punishment for sins similar to the forty years of wandering for the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We had picked out a hotel, booked our flight, and ordered our tickets for the parks. We scheduled care takers for our pets and packed our belongings. We were ready! Now, we were off to our dream vacation in Orlando, Florida. It was three o'clock in the morning, and we were all still really tired, but we were also really excited. We packed everything in our GMC van and headed for my grandmother's house. We had made arrangements to leave our van at her house so that we would not have to pay for parking at the airport. The limo would pick us up at my grandmother's house in Saint John and drive us to Gary Regional Airport so that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Example Of A Narrative Textual Analysis After living in Europe for 2 years, we were exposed to so many different cultures and people for whom speaking more than one language was no big deal. Europeans generally speak at least two languages, often more, without thinking that was unusual. While we were living in Luxembourg, I decided to take my French training and start imparting that to my kids. The goal not so much being that they would become fluent in French, but to expand their horizons, and make them aware of other languages and cultures in the world. However, if they become fluent... that would be AWESOME. Also, because they are still so young, their brain 'catches' language so much easier than when they get older. I speak mostly English, and about 30% French with my two little ones. I am conversational, not fluent in the language, if you're wondering why I don't do 100% French. We...show more content... Looking back on when I began learning French (middle school), I did not think it was fun AT ALL. Seeing my kids singing French songs, and playing games in French, I have realized it's just another adventure in learning about the world for them. They think it's fun! And, they have an incredible ear for hearing accents. My daughter can say the french "r" with no difficulty at all, while after years of trying my "r" words still sound abysmal. Don't be intimidated to try this in your own home! Start small and build, and soon your kids will look at you and say "Vert" when you ask them what color something is! • 11. In short, I enjoyed the experience of interviewing an elderly person. Conversing with elderly adults is something I am fond of. Choosing a person for the interview was not a difficult task because I have a close relationship with my neighbor Virginia. On Monday afternoon I called her house phone and explained in detail that I would be interviewing an elderly person and would she like to participate. I selected Virginia because of her age and I believe she is the wisest in my neighborhood. The information and tips provided from Virginia are very useful and insightful. On July 15, 1913, Virginia was born in Wortham, Texas. Virginia states that she had a joyful childhood filled with fond memories, and states it was the best times of her life. Her household consisted of her father, mother, and a younger brother. Her mischievous brother loved to play tricks on her as a child. She states "I cannot believe I am alive today as he loved to agitate me" (V. Dixon, personal communication, September 26, 2016). Inhigh school , she was the head cheerleader, the leader in her homemaking group, she was in the honor society, and voted the favorite high school girl in the school. Fortunately, Virginia absolutely loved school, as an illustration, she became a teacher later in life. In her town, they did not include kindergarten and the school grades only went to the 11th. This statement surprised me because I see younger kids and adults are not respectful to adults of the elderly population. When I was growing you were to be considerate of your elders. The times have definitely changed. A couple of ideas I will use in life is not to be afraid of aging, and stay healthy and productive. The sentence is a run on and should be split into two different sentences. The start of the first paragraph needs to have a better attention grabber. There also needs to be more transitional words between paragraph. The opening sentence in each paragraph is the same it starts with "In..." The thesis could be stronger in the opening paragraph. The first thing I noticed was that the first sentence starts off with a strong hook which is the question. The question helps guide the rest of the paper and is very helpful. The thesis is clear and easy to find whereas in the previous draft it was not easy to locate. The points that will be talked about were talked about in the intro so we know what to look for in the paper. The word choice throughout the whole paper is much stronger and really caries the paper. Another thing that they changed was the transition words. They don't use the same words over and over and that is important because then we don't get that lost whereas before they used the same transition words and it got boring. The concluding sentence in the first paragraph is strong and has everything that is needed to end the paragraph. The information that is in the paragraphs match the quotes that follow it. Then the information in each paragraph balances it out and goes well together. As we saw before that did not happen and it made the article hard to follow. The revised article is easy to follow because the little things were changed. They fixed many of the runā€“on sentences and made them stronger so it was actually a sentence. The conclusion is also just as strong as the first paragraph. That is extremely important because then the whole essay sounds good and together. The revised version is much better and many of the things that needed to be fixed got fixed which then tied everything Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Literacy Narrative Essay example At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content... You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. Essay on Narrative Therapy Abstract This paper will look at the logic of narrative therapy by focusing on 5 major points. This paper will begin by discussing how the narrative approach defines and perceives problems. It will address how narrative therapy views the nature of the relationship between the client and the professional. This paper will look at how problems are solved using the narrative approach. It will also focus on three main techniques used in narrative therapy, which will include externalization, deconstruction and reā€“authoring. This paper will also include a short narrative critique of the medical model. According to Kelley (1996) this process is recommended by narrative therapists because it allows the client to begin to see where the discourse emerged from. The therapist must first just listen to the story and determine what the client sees as the existing problem (Kelley, 1996). Then the therapist begins to ask questions with the intention of bringing forth the full meaning of the problem (Kelley, 1996). In deconstruction the therapist searches for answers as to who all is involved with the problem, what past events lead up to the problem development, how the problem changed over time, how the client has been fighting the problem thus far and how the problem is affecting the client's life (Kelley, 1996). Kelley (1996) reported that after the therapist has a full understanding of the problem the deconstruction phase moves on to its second stage. The therapist and the client begin working together to break down the prevailing story in order to map the influence the problem is having on the client's life (Kelley, 1996). Mapping the effect of the problem is particularly important because it lays the foundation of the new story line (Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston, 1997). According to Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston (1997) typically when the effect of the problem is discussed with the client they begin to feel as if their story has been heard. • 18. Grounded theory Is a qualitative approach which calls for simultaneous data collection and analysis to generate a theory during the research process. A theory emerges inductively through the systematic data collection and analysis pertaining to a given phenomenon (Strauss & Corbin, 1990). This has two fundamental characteristics which include: theoretical sampling and constant comparative analysis. Agrounded theory is generated by themes which emerge from the data during analysis, capturing the essence of meaning drawn from varied contexts and situations Theoretical sampling, this involves data collection for comparative analysis (Glaser & Strauss 1967).
