Objectives.
Student of community health worker should be able to:
1. Carry simple dressings
2. Carry out complicated dressings
3. Perform Vital signs- Temperature, Blood Pressure, Respiration, weight and
pules.
4. Perform Urinalysis
5. Perform BMI
6. Demonstrate proper hand washing
7. Advice women and men on Family planning
8. Assist men and women, young adolescent on Reproductive health.
9. Be able to recognize high risk patients
10. Able to refer high risk patients to the nearest hospital or health centre.
11. Contac t home visits
12. Follow up on malnourish children, risk cases, Family planning visits,
postnatal visits, incomplete vaccinations.
13. Teach family on healthier lives
14. Report ill cases.
15. Able to give health talk

Maternal child health
1. Promote optimal health of mother and children.
2. Educate parents and children about personal health, diseases prevention and
child health.
Public Health
3. Map out the community they are engaged to carry out their practical
4. Make a community diagnose.
5. Educate people on proper rubbish disposal
6. Organize health activities, e.g. clean up the village.
7. Communicate new information about health to the community.
8. Provide accurate information to the community on health issues.
9. Be able to counsel community on health issues.
10.To recognize and provide care for any health issues.

12.Identifying common health issues affecting community.

Family Planning
18. Allow parents to make free choices in family planning’
19. Educate mother s on types of available family planning methods.
20.To keep accurate, complete and up to date records and submit reports
promptly.

22.To educate women on early antenatal visits
23. To accurately diagnose pregnancy
24. To identify high risk mothers and refer to the nearest health centre.
25. To ensure pregnant mothers get their prophylactic treatment.
26. Provide mothers with health education and with the SIC assistance educate
mothers to prepare for childbirth.
27. Able to calculate EDD.
Post natal
28. Observe new born for signs of infections
29. Examine mothers lochia
30. Ensure mothers are physically well.
31. Encourage mothers to visit the clinic
32. Encourage women to return to a clinic for check post natal check up.
33. Give Family planning advice to all women.
34. Encourage mother to breast feed their babies.
35. Encourage mothers to take their baby for immunization.
36. Encourage mothers on the importance of immunizations and bay weighing.

38. Observe physical state of the mother.
Nutrition
39. Monitor growth of all children under 5 years of age
40. Teach fathers and mothers about child growth and development and the
best way to feed the child.
41. Educate parents about when to start weaning food and what foods are best
for the growing child.
42. Promote home garden and fresh food for family.
43. Promote three types of food groups.
Expanded programme on Immunization
44. Keep accurate records to monitor the level of immunization in each
children.
45. Assist in giving immunization( with the SIC assistance)
46. Able to do the documentation.
Children with Disability
47. Help prevent disability

49. Educate families and community about disabilities
50. Reassure the family of disability child.
School Health
51. Teach students on basic health and basic hygiene
52. Ensure all school children receive medical checkup.
53. Help teaching staff to provide a clean and safe environment for the
students.
Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI)
54. Reduce by educating mothers on importance of immunization and early
diagnosis and treatment once the child is sick.
55. Educate mothers on inappropriate use of antibiotics
56. Educate the mother on early referral of children with risk signs of severe
ARI.
Control of Diarrheal Disease
57. Accurately assess and manage cases of diarrheal diseases
58. Encourage others to breast feed the child with diarrheal diseases
59. Advice and teach mothers and communities on how to administer ORS

7. 60. Report and monitor outbreaks of diarrhea.
Mental Health
61. Able to talk to counsel and communicate with people.
62. Define what is mental health
63. Differentiate what is physical, spiritual and social health.
64. Define and describe what is positive mental health
65. Able to counsel people what and why it is important to have positive
mental attitude.
66. Able to demonstrate what it means to be self- confident, competent and be
temperate in all aspects of life.
