This should be used for straight bending
machine with wide applications
The machine should be simple to operate

Hence we tried out to develop pneumatic
bending machine

ABSTRACT

The bending machine is one of the most
important machine tool in sheet metal
workshop.
The bend has been made with the help of
punch which exerts large force on the work
clamped on the die.
The purpose of this project is to design a
simple, easily operated pneumatic sheet
metal bending machine that is sturdy and
strong.
A pressure of 8-10 bar is enough for
operating the unit.

The pressurized air passing through the tubes to the cylinder,
forces the piston out whose power through the linkage is
transmitted to the punch.
The die used in this is fixed such that the die of required shape can
be used according to the requirement.
This enables us to use different type punch dies resulting in a wide
range of products.

COMPONENTS USED
PNEUMATIC CYLINDER
Pneumatic cylinders (sometimes known as air cylinders) are
mechanical devices that use the power of compressed gas to
produce a force in a reciprocating linear motion. In the pneumatic
cylinder, compressed air is used as a working fluid and converts it
into kinetic energy as the air expands in an attempt to reach
atmospheric pressure. This air expansion forces a piston to move in
the desired direction

DIRECTION CONTROLVALVE

The directional valve is one of the important parts of the
pneumatic system. Commonly known as DCV, this valve is
used to control the direction of airflow in the pneumatic
system. The directional valve does this by changing the
position of its internal movable parts. This valve was
selected for speedy operation and to reduce the manual
effort and also for the modification of the machine into an
automatic machine by means of using a solenoid valve.

To perform bending operation, the bending
punch and ideas to replace with cutter and then
after we can perform bending operation. The
bending angle is 90 and as per the requirement
in the future, we can change the angle of
bending.

PNEUMATIC COMPRESSOR
11
An air compressor is a device that converts
power(using an electric motor, diesel or gasoline
engine, etc.)into potential energy stored in pressurized
air(i.e., compressed air). By one of several methods, an
air compressor forces more and more air into a storage
tank, increasing the pressure. When tank pressure
reaches its upper limit the air compressor shuts off. The
compressed air, then, is held in the tank until called
into use.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
The pneumatic sheet bending machine includes a table
with support arms to hold the sheet, stops or guides to
secure the sheet, upper and lower straight-edge blades, a
gauging device to precise position the sheet. The table also
includes the two-way directional valve. The two-way
directional valve is connected to the compressor. The
compressor has a piston for a movable member. The piston
is connected to a crankshaft, which is in turn connected to a
prime mover (electric motor, internal combustion engine).

It allow air to enter and exit the chamber. When
the compressor is switched ON, the compressed
air flows to the inlet of the pneumatic cylinder.
The sheet is placed between the upper and the
lower blade. The lower blade remains stationary
while the upper blade is forced.

CONCLUSION
Now we know that Pneumatic bending machines are very cheap compared to
hydraulic bending machines. The range of the bending thickness can be increased
by arranging a high-pressure compressor and installing more hardened blades.
This machine is advantageous to small sheet metal cutting and bending industries
as they cannot afford the expensive hydraulic bending machine.
