The Impact of Our Digital Selves on Reality
1. People nowadays taught that every information we found on the internet is all true.
We don’t know the harmful effect of the digital world. In fact, the digital world has given
us greater opportunities to express and show our identity in any form we want to. But
what we all need to remember is how will we feel if we go so far to express ourselves
differently online that we forgot that reality is or worse, we end up. The world today is
digital and we, ourselves, construct in it. Social media is the number one technology
platform where we engrossed ourselves into and that’s where we discover our digital self.
I bet each one of us has at least one social media account. The digital self is the persona
you use when you're online. Some people maintain one or more online identifies that are
distinct from their “real world” selves; others have a single online self that's more or less
the same as the one they inhabit in the real world. It’s got its advantages because
compared to my real self I am more confident and freer but likewise it has its
disadvantages. Being in social media, I tend to be more open thus myself being subject
to greater vulnerability. The digital world could be the place where you can enhance
yourself and be able to apply it in the real world thereafter. Just like it is easy to reach
worldwide fame through a strong digital presence, that same platform can be used to
bring you down in the most brutal way. Having a strong social media presence has never
been a goal for me. I don’t strive to increase my number of followers, but rather think that
having a lot of followers would put pressure on me to write interesting things. Neither do
I have any career goals for my digital presence.
