Principal Friedell Middle School, Rochester, MN August 2014-Current
Serve as the principal of Friedell Middle School, grades 6-8, with 460 students. Friedell is a choice school that
houses the highly gifted program for Rochester Public Schools. Friedell was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School
during the 2015-2016 school year. Applied and received the compensatory pilot grant to implement a pull out
tutoring program for struggling students in mathematics and language arts. Successfully deployed 1:1 iPads in
my 1st
year as a principal. Friedell is the only middle school in RPS to improve MCA scores in the last 6 school
years and in the last two years under my direction.
Principal Cotter Schools, Winona, MN June 2013-July 2014
Served as the principal of an independent Catholic school, grades 7-12, with 353 students. Cotter is also a
boarding school that educates approximately 80 students from around the world. Implemented a new bell
schedule that provided built-in time for PLCs for teachers, a service learning program for students and tutoring
time for students. Utilized Title II money to bring the Buck Institute of Education to provide a comprehensive
professional development plan on Project Based Learning.
Assistant Principal at Lanier High School, Austin I.S.D., July 2008-June 2012
Served as an Assistant Principal at a large, urban high school, grades 9-12, with 1,600 students from a largely ELL
and immigrant community. Successfully managed organizational reform into smaller learning communities
based on a commitment to building leadership through professional learning communities. Created a
collaborative culture focused on teaching and learning resulting in student achievement gains. Facilitated
extensive professional development of staff regarding English language acquisition theory and best practices. The
following are three areas highlighting my leadership:
School Reform
n Principal, Lanier Night School: Developed, from inception and grant funding to daily operations, a
Night School campus to increase the graduation and completion rate of students unable to meet their
needs with traditional school through credit recovery, targeted tutoring, and social assistance.
n Sub-School Principal for House of Odin: Organized implementation of a smaller learning community
and PLCs consisting of 33 teachers and 430 students. During the second year of the program, my
academy attained the highest improvement of key student achievement indicators.
Instructional Leadership
n Foreign Languages: Directed departmental PLCs in process of alignment of changing curriculum
standards, instructional practices, and common assessments based on Understanding by Design
principles.
n PSAT Testing Coordination: Oversaw the administration of PSAT assessments. Established and
maintained policies for the administration of assessments. Implemented formal in-service training for all
school staff proctoring assessments. Coordinated the submission of documents to the College Board and
the delivery of scores to students.
Institutional Management
n Custodial Staff Supervisor: Evaluated the work performance of all 12 custodians, crew leader and head
custodian. Coordinated the building administration building with the head custodian. Mediated and
assisted with conflict resolution between custodians and supervisors. Interviewed and recommended
new employees for hire. Communicated expectations from administration team to custodial staff.
n Benchmark Testing Coordinator: Managed the proctoring of beginning of the year, middle of the year
and end of the year benchmark testing. Evaluated and analyzed data from assessments and informed the
Principal and teachers of students’ performance. Facilitated changes in the curriculum in order to
improve state assessment scores.

Cotter High School, Winona, MN 2012-current
Campus Leadership
n Conversations for Community and Collaboration: Participate in and contribute to ongoing discussions
with leaders at WACS, Cotter and St. Mary’s University with the intent of improving collaboration and
instructional practices at the K-12 level.
n Member of Academic and Student Life committee: Attend meetings to examine how best to meet the
needs of students and faculty at Cotter High School.
n Cooperating Teacher for St. Mary’s University: Coach and mentor Spanish student teacher to prepare her
for teaching. Meet on evenings and weekends in order to lesson plan collaboratively. Employ Cognitive
Coaching to mentor student teacher and encourage her to become increasingly independent while
