3. What is web application protocol?
• Web application protocol or Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is a
specification for a set of communication protocols to
standardize the way wireless devices, such as mobile phones and
radio transceivers, can be used for internet access, including email,
the web, newsgroups and instant messaging.
4. Web and HTTP
• web page consists of objects
• ❖ object can be HTML file, JPEG image, Java applet, audio
file,…
• ❖ web page consists of base HTML-file which includes
several referenced objects
• ❖ each object is addressable by a URL, e.g.,
5. HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
• HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the most widely
used web communications protocol. If you look in the
Address field of your web browser right now, it's likely you'll
see "http://" at the front.
6. How HTTP works
•GET requests a specific resource in its entirety
•HEAD requests a specific resource without the body
content
•POST adds content, messages, or data to a new page
under an existing web resource
•PUT directly modifies an existing web resource or
creates a new URI if need be
•DELETE gets rid of a specified resource
7. Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure
(HTTPS)
• HTTPS is similar to HTTP, but different in that it combines
with a security protocol called SSL/TLS to provide secure
client-server communications over unsecure networks such
as the internet. You're most likely to see HTTPS protocols
on ecommerce websites that ask for personal financial
information like credit card numbers.
9. Conclusion
• In conclusion, WAP is suitable for the creation of
mobile learning training course material.
• The optimization of WAP and the handling of the
design challenges makes it feasible to use mobile
handheld devices for distance learning in real-time.
• The application developer must always be aware of
the user and take into account the usability issues if
the application is to be a success.
