From the ORCID Outreach Meeting, May 21-22, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, https://orcid.org/content/orcid-outreach-meeting-and-codefest-may-2014 Poster created by Rajeev Voleti, ScienceOpen Abstract: "ScienceOpen is a freely accessible online platform for Open Access publishing and scientific networking. The ScienceOpen integration with ORCID provides a way to identify researchers and the work that they have done in the past so they can quickly register and start utilizing the research platform. ScienceOpen uses the ORCID public API for: 1. Registration process 2. Online profile 3. Peer review process 4. Manuscript submission and publication 5. Networking with other scientists For a platform that encourages open science, transparency and accurate identification of members is critical. ScienceOpen requires an ORCID ID during the registration process to uniquely identify users and populate their profiles. The site uses the ORCID ID to manage authorization levels, including qualification to peer review. In the publishing process ORCID profiles are linked to published articles to facilitate browsing or search by author. The ORCID API is called via web services to authenticate and provide access to an ORCID profile including works, education, employment and funding. The profile is synchronized with ORCID so that information is current and the researcher need only change their information in one place."
