DataCite's Executive Director, Patricia Cruse on ORCID auto-update functionality (note, these slides were prepared for our November 2015 Outreach Meeting, but weren't presented due to time constraints)
2. DataCite’s
auto-update
steps
Researchers: (1) use ORCID iD when
submitting a dataset, and (2) authorize
DataCite via profiles to update your
ORCID record.
Data centers: (1) collect ORCID
identifiers during the submission (2)
embed the iD in the published work
and include the iD when submitting to
DataCite.
DataCite: Upon receipt of data from a
data center with a valid identifier,
DataCite will automatically push that
information to the researcher’s ORCID
record.
3. DataCite’s implementation of
auto-update
• New profiles service; researchers sign
into DataCite with ORCID id and get
personalized services
• Central place to interact with DataCite
services. Can scale to other services
• Connect search & link and auto-update
in a single place
4. DataCite Profiles: open source
Volpino (Italiano dog) code on github

5. How will this look and when?
• example of a profile –
show all DataCite
records with ORCID IDs
• DataCite Profiles will
launch this week
• Connect the dots and
create an incentive
• Next steps:
1. push DOIs with
ORCIDs to ORCID
(permission)
2. push all DOIs with
ORCIDs and collect
permissions via new
