You may not need to perform all of the following tasks, but you will probably need to perform
most of them at the same time. Things you might need are:
 Updating and maintaining hardware in collaboration with the company's official
 Setting standards for the company (there are international standards and additional
standards for the company)
 Providing a budget for the company required to work with BIM technology in the best
way and explaining the profit that the company will make (Employees look for what
finishes the job faster and the management looks for saving money _you should focus
on these two points_).
 Recording all problems and suggested solutions for each one and getting priorities
right
 The management does not know what you know and think it is easy so they throw
additional work on you. You should explain to the management that the matter
requires an effort to support all employees.
 The management thinks that BIM is just a program so you should explain that BIM is
philosophy and thought
 You should report periodically to the management to inform them what happens.

If you work alone on the project without anyone else working with you and nobody else will
complete it, it might be possible to dispense with CAD Standards (this situation will only happen
if you design a small room on the roof). When we all work on the same project, we will need a
common language that we all understand and here the role of CAD standards comes , because
it helps us in understanding what the drawing is before we open it. For example, if the name of
the file starts with A, it is an architect; E is electricity ... and so on.

7. What is the difference between a program user such as Revit or Archicad and a BIM specialist?
What makes BIM fails in some companies?? The answer to the two questions is the code. The
BIM Specialist must be aware of the concept of BIM and familiar with it, not just a user of one of

What are the benefits of codes orstandards?
Unification and organization of work because if everyone has his own way of naming files, other
will make an effort to know the content of the file and be forced to open the file to know its
content wasting a time that is estimated to be five project time with high probability of repeating
files or having non- important files.
In August 2004, the American National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) published
a report indicating that nearly 15$ billion is lost annually in the American construction industry
because of lack of obvious criteria.
The code organizes the work, who starts, who completes and how we exchange the information
and who has the right to open the file and modify it, so we have to realize the codes, translate
them and find a special code for the Arab region.

8. We have to differentiate between the Standard which contains the principles agreed upon in a
particular field without entering into details of implementation, and Protocol which is a specific
type of standards or more verbose in terms of step-by-step detailed explanation of the
implementation of a work and it may be related to applications or programs. The Framework has
a different purpose and it is a structural frame of a methods group or ways that are interrelated
in a way to solve a whole problem or an issue and not just an action only.

Are there many BIM codes?
Yes, almost 70 codes, including Norwegian, British, American and the Indians. So far there is no
Arabic code (even the UAE, which is a pioneer in its implementation in Dubai does not have a
code),working on an Arabic code for building information modeling is what we seek to achieve
by the initiative taken by BIMarabia magazine in the sixth edition and many responded to it.

The BIM protocol is a supplementary legal
agreement that is integrated into professional
service and construction contracts by simple
modification. The Protocol specifies additional
obligations for the employer and the contracting
party. This protocol is based on a direct
contractual relationship between the employer
and the supplier. It does not create additional
rights or obligations between different suppliers.

15. Levels of BIM Application:
Almost all previous codes benefit the second phase of BIM
There are three levels of BIM application:
 BIM Level 0, which is the level of CAD and the level of non-cooperation, only drawing
lines and brackets either on the sheet or on the computer. In fact most of the companies
are at this level.
 BIM level 1 focuses on a 3D model, error reduction and continuous communication. It
assumes that if you work with British code, you will use BS 1192: 2007.
 BIM level 2, which embodies the capabilities of the information model, simulation,
facilitating transfer and exchange of information and does not necessarily work on one
model, which most countries aspire to. It depends on files of ifc, COBieConstruction
Operations Building Information Exchange.
 BIM level 3, Open BIM, is the integration so that the work is on one platform and
enables real time handling. Everyone is working on the same file so you do not have to
import and export but to work on the same file in all things such as model work, time
dimension, cost dimension and other dimensions.
So far the third level depends on the Extension of Industry Foundation Class (IFC) and it
is an open-source version that does not belong to a particular company and it is used for
exchange between programs.
