Key considerations • UNEP is the UN Custodian Agency for SDG indicators 6.5.1 (IWRM). • A 2nd global data drive is scheduled for 2020, including Africa. • It is crucial for the SDG reporting that there is no duplication, confusion but let’s look for complementarity. • In addition, the UNEP-DHI Centre supported AMCOW in the development of a comprehensive monitoring and reporting system (WASSMO). • UNEP-DHI is working with GWP, Cap-Net to support policy dialogue on IWRM implementation, building on their SDG-6.5.1 reporting. - Stage 1 – Identify challenges: Strengthen SDG 6.5 national monitoring and reporting frameworks, with a view to identifying critical areas for attention. This stage was completed through a series of surveys carried out in 2017, focusing on the establishment of a baseline for SDG indicator 6.5.1 “Degree of IWRM implementation”. Stage 2 – Formulate responses: Assist countries in formulating appropriate responses to water resources management challenges, based on their needs and appropriate to their ambitions and capacities, in the context of the baseline for SDG indicator 6.5.1 and the national water resources management priority issues more broadly; and Stage 3 – Implement solutions: Support countries in implementing IWRM solutions aimed at achieving SDG 6 and other water-related goals through the development of bankable project proposals.
