  1. 1. Support the Government of Armenia in “nationalising” SDG-6 targets and development of implementation strategy Alisa Savadyan CWP-Armenia Board member Project Coordinator

Republic of Armenian governmental efforts toward the SDG implementation  Establishment Inter-ministerial SDG Council (2017),  SDG Innovation Lab (2017),  Inter-Sectorial Monitoring Team (IMT) for SDG-6 established by the Water Committee (2017),  Process of reestablishment SDG National Council has been completed on September 2020.

Overview  In RA Government Program 2019-2023 clearly outlines all the programs and initiatives that will support the Government's strategy in the areas of water: river basin planning, irrigation, drinking water supply and wastewater removal and treatment.  The current programs and initiatives funded by International Finance Institutions /IFIs/ are in support to the state budget to address water-related concern in Armenia  Armenia doesn't have a strategy for SDG-6 «Water and Sanitation» implementation and this creates real gap between implementation of Country policy in water and sanitation sector and understanding the SDG targets achievements,  In order to implement of SDG -6 targets monitoring process, Armenia needed to establish a stable platform, that would involve responsible water agencies with respective capacity, which would not only move the monitoring process forward, but also to ensure appropriate cooperation on other SDGs

The main goals of the Project  Identification of weaknesses and gaps on the way to achieving SDG 6 targets,  Development of a Strategy towards achievement of SDG 6, Development of time-lines and an action plan to achieve the targets  Identification of the follow-up pilot projects, supporting the process of SDG-6 targets moving forward  Development of the plan of training needs assessment for water responsible agencies
  5. 5. Project details Financed by UNDP, GoAl – Water Program Implementation period according to the Contract: July 2020-March 2021 Kick off meeting – July 10, 2020

Expected general outputs and status of implementation  Intergovernmental working group is established  SDG- implementation Gap Analysis Report is developed  Legal review on implementation of SDG-6 strategy is developed and approved by working groups’ members;  SDG-6 implementation Strategy and Action plan document with recommendations – in process, till January 2021  Strategy submission is included in RA Government schedule for 2021 adoption  Follow up program with some pilot projects is drafted and discussed with the working group- ongoing  Training needs assessment for each state governmental institution, responsible for activities towards achievement of the SDG 6 targets developed – ongoing

Project positive influence  Establishment of safe and stable platform of cooperation between the state institutions, responsible for SDG-6 targets, indicators monitoring  Good understanding of methodology of monitoring for each indicator, for further monitoring of targets,  Civil servants involved in the project became responsible and understood the importance of the process.  Project will have positive contribution to boost the achievement of not just SDG 6, but also other water-related SDGs
