Learning Objectives
FISH112 – Physiology of Aquatic Organisms
At the end of the topic, the students can:
• understand the objectives, requirements, policies, and the grading system of
the course
• define the physiology
• explain the importance of physiology
• identify the 10 physiological organ systems

What is Physiology of Aquatic Organisms?
FISH112 – Physiology of Aquatic Organisms
Physiology is “the science of life”.
- It is the branch of biology that aims to understand the mechanisms of
living things, from the basis of cell function at the ionic and molecular level to the
integrated behavior of the whole body and the influence of the external
environment.
- It is the foundation upon which we build our knowledge of what "life" is,
how to treat disease, and how to cope with stresses imposed upon our bodies by
different environments through the response of various organ systems.

Physiology is generally divided into 10 physiological organ systems:
1. the cardiovascular system,
2. the digestive system,
3. the endocrine system,
4. the immune system,
5. the muscular system,
6. the nervous system,
7. the renal system,
8. the reproductive system,
9. the respiratory system, and
10. the skeletal system.
