Karl Hampton: 'Aboriginal community views on feral camel impacts and management'. Reducing feral camel impacts across remote Australia: Australian Feral Camel Management Project Session 3 - Achievements and outcomes
This document summarizes the findings of surveys conducted with 222 Aboriginal community members across remote Australia about their views on feral camels. The surveys were conducted in local Aboriginal languages using iPads by Aboriginal community researchers. They found that community members have been dealing with impacts from feral camels for 4 or more years near their communities. The main impacts reported were damage to water infrastructure, cultural sites, and food sources as well as safety issues with aggressive male camels. When asked about future management, the most supported options were commercial harvesting and culling of feral camels.
