2. In 1820 (1825), a group of citizens founded the first
school from Călimăneşti. Seventeen(17) pupils learned there
and the teacher was paid by the parents with two coins a
month. The school rapidly grew and the first certain
information about the school existence dated from 1837, when
the courses were attended by 61 students(52 boys, 9
girls).That time there were 282 children in Călimăneşti.

closed because there was
no teacher.
In 1864, The Law of
Public Education was
applied all over the country
and, therefore, the school
from Călimăneşti was
reopened, this time
managed by the Romanian
state. The beginnings were
very difficult, but the
citizens supported The Law
of Public Education .
6. The first pieces of
information about a
proper building for the
school dated from
1902-1903.That time
the school building was
settled in Tudor
Vladimirescu street.
The school building had
four classrooms and in
1904 there were built-
up two more
classrooms.
7. Renovated and
modernized, the old
school building is in
working condition. It
has four classrooms, a
teacher’s room, a
bathroom, a hall and
central heating.
8. There were 8
classrooms, a sports
room and two teacher’s
rooms on the ground
floor, and upstairs, a
bathroom, a kitchen and
six annexes (a museum,
three workshops and a
room for the
headmaster).
9. Nowadays, our 500
students, educated by
34 qualified teachers,
study in modern
classrooms and
benefit of labs
(Chemistry, Biology)
and of cabinets
(Computer Science,
Romanian and Foreign
languages).

National Day, Christmas, Halloween, the end of the school year.
