2. A scarred past
• Between 1948 and 1994 the South African Government
under the National Party (NP) passed racial segregation
laws known as Apartheid.
5. A devastating impact
• The National Party set about dividing South Africa into four
distinct groups being white, black, coloured and Indian.
• South Africa was divided into a number of separate states,
each of which was supposed to develop into a separate
nation-state for a different ethnic group.
• A policy of 'resettlement', to force people to move to their
designated "group areas“ was implemented by government.
Millions of people were forced to relocate.
6. A great legacy of South Africa is how we
came together as a nation despite the
atrocities of the past. This coming
together has greatly influenced
our countries culture.
