Dear Hiring Manager,
I believe that as a RIT electrical engineering student, I can be a valuable resource to the company.
Currently, I am finishing my 5th
year studies at the Rochester Institute of Technology and am trying to
fulfill my final co-op requirements. I have an associate’s degree in Engineering Science from Monroe
Community College and plan to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from RIT in May of
2016. I am experienced in component and electronic testing, assisting in failure/root causal analysis,
supporting engineering sections, and solving technical problems while maintaining an engineering
notebook. These all relate to my previous education/working experience. I also have experience with
analysis, modeling, simulation, and documentation and would be glad to implement my electrical
engineering knowledge/experience to benefit the company.
The course work at MCC and RIT has prepared me well for the engineering occupation. At MCC,
I worked in a team of four engineering students to build a robot that would satisfy ASEE Model Design
Completion while maintaining an engineering notebook. I was responsible for the electrical systems and
control of a robot. At RIT, I am currently working on a senior design project with six other students as the
system integration engineer. Our project consists of designing an improved version of an existing PCB
routing system for RIT. During this project, our team individually maintains engineering notebooks. RIT
has also enabled me to become very familiar with VHDL, Verilog, and C Programming. I am very
experienced with MATLAB and have use Simulink frequently. I am also very familiar with the Cadence
Pspice capture software.
In my co-op with the Zeller Corporation last summer and fall, I spent time wiring and testing
control panels, drafting electrical schematics in Auto-cad Electrical, and completing the necessary
documentation and manuals for the completed projects. Prior to my co-op, I was employed by Integrity
Home Systems for the installation and testing of digital systems of high quality. Many of these systems
allowed customers to control their home security system, lights, stereos, and more with the use of their
smart phones, or apple products. I have also been employed at Flower City Communications as a service
technician. I am interested in expanding my work experience. Some areas of interest are energy
production, high power transmission, analog design, and system programming with PLCs.
Enclosed is a copy of my resume as well as my professional references. I sincerely thank you for
your time and hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Nathan Faulknor
