effects and 3 girls performing a pre rehearsed
dance routine. It influenced recent music
videos such as Beyonce’s Single Ladies.
3. 1960’s
Beatles made the film ‘A Hard Days Night’
This was a mock documentary, this was used
as their music videos and was the first music
video in which you saw the band actually
performing.
Hide Your Love Away, also by the Beatles,
showed the first video in which a narrative
and performance was integrated into a music
video.
4. 1970’s
In the 1970’s music videos became an
art form, this was because of new film
makers coming out of art school.
Concept music videos were born and
opened a new side to the music video.

5. 1980’s
This was the decade in which MTV, Top of the Pops and 6:5 Special
were introduced. It meant that music and the music video became a
popular choice of TV, meaning artists had to step up to make a
memorable video.
Madonna made ‘Material Girl’ which starts like a film full of only
dialogue. When the performance starts, she takes ideas from different
and popular mediums, to allow the audience to relate to their past.
Also, in the 1980’s saw the release of the big budget music video’s for
example, Micheal Jackson’s Thriller which is 13 mins long with a horror
genre.
The 1980’s also saw music video’s shot abroad, such as Duran Duran-
Rio
1980’s also saw the first ever banned music video, which was Queen’s
Body Language.
6. Current
Now, the music video is slowly dying,
people are creating their own low
budget music videos and uploading to
the internet for an instant impact.
