Catharsis is the purification and purgation of emotions – particularly pity and fear –
though art or any extreme change in emotion that results in renewal and
restoration.

4. DEFINITION OF TRAGEDY
Tragedy is an imitation of an action
That is serious complete and of certain magnitude through pity and
fear effecting the proper purgation of emotion
5. WHY CATHARSIS IS IMPORTANT IN A TRAGEDY
Catharsis refers to a purging of emotions, purification and sometimes a
renewal resulting from pity , sorrow , sympathy or even laughter.
Chatharsis applies to the experience of a character or the experience of
the audience.

Tragedies like Romeo and Juliet,
